I'm Team Tie for Michelle and Cate; each has earned it with a career best, tour de force performance in movies that surround their characters.
Regina King wasn't nominated for SAG or BAFTA but she won the Oscar. So Angela Bassett will likely repeat.
Song : 53:08
Add chapters in this, PLEASE!
I wouldn't underestimate Angela Bassett for the win. I hate when they mentioned the fact that she is in an MCU movie when the Academy has awarded two actors for their work in two movies based on an Comic book. Jamie Lee Curtis winning the Oscar for best supporting actress might not aged well in an few years from now
Coincidentally, both of those were performances as Joker, and both of those swept the precursors. Bassett hits neither of these marks, and lost at the SAG awards where she was largely expected to win. Unfortunately for her chances, she has won neither industry precursor: SAG or BAFTA.
I love the underdog stories!! I want a EEAAO sweep! Lolol
The "original" in Best Original Screenplay refers to the lack of pre-existing source material, not how unique the content is. We all know this. As unique as EEAAO is, it is an achievement of editing and directing much more than it is great writing. We're not rewarding a wildly original premise, we're awarding the execution of a story on the page.
I know. It's script written directly for the screen. Not the most original.
Unfortunately, eeaao writing is good too. So they DESERVED.
This doesn't age well.
Another argument for Michelle Yeoh: Frances McDormand won in the Best Picture front runner, "Nomadland". T'ar is not the frontrunner, and EEAAO is.
Very telling that some of these professional reviewers can't even say Brendan FRASER's name without calling him Brendan Frazier.
I would love to see a tie between Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett! I feel confident that Michelle Yeoh's win at the Screen Actors Guild comes at a time when the Academy vote will only increase her chances.
Or a three way between Austin, Colin, and Brendan
In the preferential ballot era, Soul and The Hateful Eight are the only 2 movies to win best original score without a best picture nomination which is why I am going with All Quiet and Justin Hurwitz has already won for La La Land
Yay! more awards discussion!
I'm rooting for Austin but if not him, I want it to go to Colin. Nothing against Brendan, I like him as a person but his performance in the Whale hasn't capture my heart the way Austin and Colin have.
I agree
I think a lot of people are over-indexing on Yeoh’s momentum/narrative. SAG is known for caring more about that compared to the Academy, especially since merging with AFTRA. Also academy voters have been known to spread the love and this year EEOA is a clear frontrunner in every category except best actress. I wouldn’t be surprised if many voters saw best actress as the only opportunity to spread the love a bit and not vote for EEAAO in every category.
EEAAO may sweep. It will be ok, they work hard it has very good performances and they used a catchy narrative. In any other era though it wouldn't stand a chance, like it or not. You want inclusive Oscars supporting great performance in a really good movie? Go for Chau... But it won't happen because her narrative was not aggresive in an era who likes and promotes aggresiveness. Also fraser should take it. Blanchett of course. But it won't happen too. Ensemble should go imo to Women Talking or EEAAO (crowd pleaser) and Best Picture? Whale (a movie about a topic noone dares to touch) Tar (it will be studied for the ages), All Quiet, (great, although a remake with a new approach and helped by the war momentum and why not?)
AND FRASER WIIIIIIINS ❤❤❤❤
Well when you pander for votes by crying in public 50 percent of the time and play someone with a disability, the Oscars don't care about performance
no contest! Austin is "the best performance by miles!
Austin Butler. It should be no contest.
30:15. The 25 years no film won screenplay with just 2 nominations. Not true. 2003 Pedro Almodovar won when Talk To Her only had two nods, screenplay and director.
BAFTA has no predictive power in picking best picture in Oscar. 8 out of last 10 years they got it wrong. So BAFTA could predict what is NOT winning best picture in Oscars. 😂
Probably because their voting system is traditional and not a ranking system, unless I'm wrong
You could inversely argue it was Oscar that got it wrong. Oscar does veer toward populist than merit which BAFTA is more attuned to.
@@The_Jupiter2_Mission The OP is not talking about merit. It's talking about BAFTA being predictor for the Oscars which has not been the case.
Am I right again that BAFTA is predicting what is NOT winning the best picture in Oscars? Lol BAFTA are a bunch of out of touch old white men. 😂
43:34- In discussing Hair & Make-up- " People were impressed with Brandon's make-up right away, more so than they were Tom Hanks, but Elvis has a lot more, and they have "hair"....it's make-up AND HAIR..Lol, good point.
it has never been about the performance, NEVER.
Naatu Naatu for the win!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wouldn't it be amazing if there were a tie between Cate and Michelle? I mean, that would be the MOST EPIC moment ever!
A result everyone would be happy with
A tie between Austin and Brendan would be better.
@@lilchaos4792
Don't rain on their parade, ok? Hehe, just kidding.
I wouldn’t love to see a tie with any Oscars
I would like for the best to win the awards.
Cate blanchett is way far out the best it’s not even close, Michelle Yeoh was very good but it’s just not good when we start saying such things like let’s not give Cate Blanchett a third Oscar Because she has two already and I’m not into factors such as giving someone an award because of career narrative or the come back narrative.
Austin Butler was truly remarkable so he should also win.
Its subjective tho. Theres no point system for these awards and what one person likes doesnt mean the other person will like it as well. If tie could happen, i hope its in this category cause both of them are so good on their films.
I hope you're still crying. We know Michelle deserved it more than Cate.
This is such bullshit for Cate. Puts in a career best performance, but is going to lose out because of Yeoh's narrative and the fact that she already has 2 Oscars.
Yes, trying to make my peace with it. And I love Michelle Yeoh and think she was excellent in EEOAO. However, Cate's performance is an an all time great one. It shouldn't even be a question. Michelle should be given more great roles. Now, Hollywood just wants to give her the award, so that she can then fade into the sunset cos no one thinks she'll be nominated again. That's an injustice to both Michelle and Cate . And it's not just Cate. Tar as a movie is a masterpiece and is going to go home empty handed. That's a travesty. Based on these projections, EEOAO is going to win more Oscars than even Parasite. It's a great movie that should win Best Picture, just for originality. But at this point, it's vastly overrated and is winning way too many categories where it doesn't deserve to win.
Michelle range in EEAAO is bigger and better than cate in tar. Let be real.
@@RajCol don't cry IJBOL 😂😂😂
@@woodvale1989 😝
@@RajCol So happy Cate lost to Michelle. Totally deserved it.
Austin embodied Elvis Presley. Austin is the Best Actor.
Austin Butler for Actor. I think Cate is taking Actress (sorry I know everyone wants Michelle to win, but Tar only has her as the win for the film, the Academy likes to spread the wealth, so it's going to win here.) Jamie Lee Curtis will probably be the huge shocker beating Angela Bassett in Supporting. She lost at both Bafta AND Sag, so she's not a lock anymore.
Cate Blanchett was sublime in TAR. However, she is certainly going to get another Oscar-worthy roles, whereas a similar role for an Asian actress is far less likely to come around. Michelle Yeoh is the highest profile Asian actress in the world, yet I've heard how much grief The Daniels went through getting funding even after Michelle Yeoh was onboard.
I hope Michelle Yeoh wins Oscar because it could probably be the only chance she will ever get.
TAR could win Best Cinematography though.
Cinematography I think is going to Western Front. I also have it for Best Picture. That movie is going to win big. EEAAO will win both supporting actors probably, and other categories like director.
@@Honchcrow1118 This doesn't age well.
@@RVandergeld 😎 I know it didn't. Just my predictions that year, I didn't watch any of the movies, went by critics and awards show wins instead. I DID get Anthony Hopkins for Best Actor a few years back, nobody saw him coming.
Here are my Oscars predictions:
Best Actress: Michelle Yeoh- Everything Everywhere All At Once
Best Actor: Austin Butler- Elvis
Best Supporting Actor: Ken Huy Quan- Everything Everywhere All At Once
Best Supporting Actress: Angela Bassett- Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Best Original Screenplay: Everything Everywhere All At Once
Best Adapted Screenplays: Top Gun: Maverick
Best Original Score: Justin Hurwitz- Babylon
Best Original Song: Lady Gaga- Hold My Hand (From “Top Gun: Maverick”)
Best Visual Effects: Avatar: The Way of Water
Best Hairstyles & Makeup: The Batman
Best Production Design: Avatar: The Way of Water or Babylon
Best Sound: Top Gun: Maverick
Best Cinematography: Elvis
Best Costume Design: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Best Animated Feature Film: Puss In Boots: The Last Wish or Turning Red
Best Picture: Everything Everywhere All At Once
Blanchett is still winning. We'll just have to wait.
This doesn't age well lol
So do I take it that the actor Oscar is given for past performances and the actual real life of the actor rather than the performance they are nominated for? Does that mean if Austin doesn’t win this year he will win in 20 years for this performance?
Yeah, unfortunately that seems to keep coming up. Not sure why it should be a lifetime achievement type award instead of for the year.
Personally for Best Actor, I hope to god that Brendan Fraser wins. He has the narrative and he has an absolutely knockout career-defining role. Austin Butler was exceptional in Elvis, but I'm tired of seeing yet another biopic performance win. Also his career is still quite early. This will most certainly not be the last time he will be nominated.
I think the problem with supporting actress is we don't know how strong the support for Angela Bassett is. She has never won an industry award for this performance. JLC and Condon have. JLC had that great speech just before voting. Condon might have won BAFTA, but that doesn't mean some of the European voters won't switch their votes to JLC based on that SAG win.
Austin is winning the oscars!!
Michelle Yeoh will win the Oscar!
God i hope kerry wins it.
Again, why should Elvis win “Best Costume Design” when a majority of what Elvis wore in the movie are not original designs but a copy of what he wore in past videos and clips?
9000 costumes were meticulously created for the movie It's the hundreds of exactly replicated Elvis costumes, on top of all the other characters' different clothing, representing all the different eras and decades. The attention to details were outstanding.. I'd say it would be a well deserved reason to win Best costume if they do win. Just because you may have your favorite movie does not mean another one doesn't deserve the win.
And again… “costume design”… if Tár can get disqualified for having only a certain percentage of original score, why does it not apply to designing original costumes. The fact that production and money trumps actual costume design.
fun facts, halle berry is one of the presenter for the oscar this year. will she be presenting the best actress award 😏
EEAAO is not a lock? I’m closing this video within 3mins bye guys.
People can't seriously think minus the fat suit, that's almost like black face today, that Fraser's emotions haven't been done a million times on film. Even Austin did so when Gladys died, Priscilla left and when he argued with Parker on stage and in the hotel lobby. And when he yells as a 20 something about the Steve Allen show and at Billy Smith and Gladys in Graceland, he sounds completely different than yelling during the 70s. Those alone are on par with Fraser. Add the performing over 3 different decades of varies styles like Elvis to a T and this isn't close.
EEAAO has won like all the critics awards in The US and you are expecting it to lose the Oscar? Go home please!!!
There's a chance because it did poorly in international awards. There are a lot of international voters in Academy.
@@maplenerd22 well it just won OSCAR. 😂😂😂
I'm trying to make my peace with Michelle Yeoh winning over Cate Blanchett at this point. I love Michelle Yeoh and think she was excellent in EEOAO. However, Cate's performance is an an all time great one, not just on her career and this year. It shouldn't even be a question whether she should win in my humble opinion. Michelle should be given more great roles, and be nominated again so that she could win. Now, Hollywood just wants to give her the award, so that she can then fade into the sunset, because no one thinks she'll be nominated again. That's an injustice to both Michelle and Cate. Create better roles for minority actors and let them win on merit, without this kind of virtue signalling acts (I'm a person of colour myself btw). And it's not just Cate. Tar as a movie is an artistic masterpiece and is going to go home empty handed. That's a travesty. Based on these projections, EEOAO is going to win more Oscars than even Parasite. It's a great movie that should win Best Picture, just for originality. But at this point, it's vastly overrated and is winning way too many categories where it doesn't deserve to win. Just my opinion of course.
EEAAO Overrated?
These uppity types. Talking about MCU movie.OMG.
