    I wouldn't underestimate Angela Bassett for the win. I hate when they mentioned the fact that she is in an MCU movie when the Academy has awarded two actors for their work in two movies based on an Comic book. Jamie Lee Curtis winning the Oscar for best supporting actress might not aged well in an few years from now

      Coincidentally, both of those were performances as Joker, and both of those swept the precursors. Bassett hits neither of these marks, and lost at the SAG awards where she was largely expected to win. Unfortunately for her chances, she has won neither industry precursor: SAG or BAFTA.

    The "original" in Best Original Screenplay refers to the lack of pre-existing source material, not how unique the content is. We all know this. As unique as EEAAO is, it is an achievement of editing and directing much more than it is great writing. We're not rewarding a wildly original premise, we're awarding the execution of a story on the page.

    I think a lot of people are over-indexing on Yeoh’s momentum/narrative. SAG is known for caring more about that compared to the Academy, especially since merging with AFTRA. Also academy voters have been known to spread the love and this year EEOA is a clear frontrunner in every category except best actress. I wouldn’t be surprised if many voters saw best actress as the only opportunity to spread the love a bit and not vote for EEAAO in every category.

  • @allabouteve2390
    @allabouteve2390 Год назад +4

    EEAAO may sweep. It will be ok, they work hard it has very good performances and they used a catchy narrative. In any other era though it wouldn't stand a chance, like it or not. You want inclusive Oscars supporting great performance in a really good movie? Go for Chau... But it won't happen because her narrative was not aggresive in an era who likes and promotes aggresiveness. Also fraser should take it. Blanchett of course. But it won't happen too. Ensemble should go imo to Women Talking or EEAAO (crowd pleaser) and Best Picture? Whale (a movie about a topic noone dares to touch) Tar (it will be studied for the ages), All Quiet, (great, although a remake with a new approach and helped by the war momentum and why not?)

    Cate blanchett is way far out the best it’s not even close, Michelle Yeoh was very good but it’s just not good when we start saying such things like let’s not give Cate Blanchett a third Oscar Because she has two already and I’m not into factors such as giving someone an award because of career narrative or the come back narrative.

      Yes, trying to make my peace with it. And I love Michelle Yeoh and think she was excellent in EEOAO. However, Cate's performance is an an all time great one. It shouldn't even be a question. Michelle should be given more great roles. Now, Hollywood just wants to give her the award, so that she can then fade into the sunset cos no one thinks she'll be nominated again. That's an injustice to both Michelle and Cate . And it's not just Cate. Tar as a movie is a masterpiece and is going to go home empty handed. That's a travesty. Based on these projections, EEOAO is going to win more Oscars than even Parasite. It's a great movie that should win Best Picture, just for originality. But at this point, it's vastly overrated and is winning way too many categories where it doesn't deserve to win.

    Austin Butler for Actor. I think Cate is taking Actress (sorry I know everyone wants Michelle to win, but Tar only has her as the win for the film, the Academy likes to spread the wealth, so it's going to win here.) Jamie Lee Curtis will probably be the huge shocker beating Angela Bassett in Supporting. She lost at both Bafta AND Sag, so she's not a lock anymore.

      Cate Blanchett was sublime in TAR. However, she is certainly going to get another Oscar-worthy roles, whereas a similar role for an Asian actress is far less likely to come around. Michelle Yeoh is the highest profile Asian actress in the world, yet I've heard how much grief The Daniels went through getting funding even after Michelle Yeoh was onboard.

    I think the problem with supporting actress is we don't know how strong the support for Angela Bassett is. She has never won an industry award for this performance. JLC and Condon have. People can't seriously think minus the fat suit, that's almost like black face today, that Fraser's emotions haven't been done a million times on film. Even Austin did so when Gladys died, Priscilla left and when he argued with Parker on stage and in the hotel lobby. And when he yells as a 20 something about the Steve Allen show and at Billy Smith and Gladys in Graceland, he sounds completely different than yelling during the 70s. Those alone are on par with Fraser. Add the performing over 3 different decades of varies styles like Elvis to a T and this isn't close.
