The beds in the ice hotels have reindeer furs on top,so first you eat them and next you sleep on them😂😂 and maybe go for a ride with reindeer pulling your sled. Every reindeer is owned even they free roam in the wild.
The golf course is there three kilometers away. You can hit the longest shot in the world there, because it's in the air for an hour and three seconds. (Because of the time zone) Well, Rudolf... Male reindeer shed their antlers in the fall, meaning all reindeer with antlers in the winter are females. The reindeer is the only deer whose females have antlers. But yeah, reindeer is pretty good. Especially as dried meat. The sword and hat are expensive and must be paid for by yourself, which is why many people rent them for the duration of the festivities.
Important announcement about Rudolph's Christmas logistics team: male reindeers drop their antlers in the late fall. That is true. However some say this means Santa Claus sled is pulled by female reindeers, as they have antlers. No. Santa Claus media centre would like to inform that all Christmas reindeers have magic antlers! So you see there is nothing suspicios about this. And Rudolph's name is of course actually Petteri Punakuono (Punakuono = red snout).
haha, the wife carrying has always been a cool event! I live near by the town Sonkajärvi, like 7km away. But I gotta say that it has kinda died down, or that was the feeling i got from the last competition😅
Couple years ago i was standing about 2 meters from President of Finland at Turku book fair, he was standing there not asking anyone to give seat to him. I know at he went to play ice hockey in public ice rink like every week.
icehotel: room is cold of course, but the bed has usually reindeer skin and other warm stuff, so that when youre properly tucked in it will not be cold. But, clearly this is a tourist/experience thing... What i like much as a native, is the ice-bars, where you drink your drinks out of ice-(shot)glasses.... you could basically eat the glas with the schnaps :) schoolsystem: there is homework, maybe better listen to native reports on that than some clowns from america trying to make a living from youtube, just saying 🙂 i remember my kid sitting late at night brooding over homework. So i call BS on that the hat and the "sword" - it is neither a baton (which would be a stick, with a leash( and neither is it a sword - the definition of a sword is, that it has TWO edges. So what you saw in the clip is a saber per definition. Most people -not in martial arts like me- get that wrong.
I'm from Finland. Can confirm. I'm usually birthed from swamp every morning. I don't understand it, I just embrace it. Also, salmiakki in general is the most separating thing I have seen. People either love it or hate it. And it's international. You either get drug-level addiction to it or you really dont want to touch that shit. It's like this even among us Finns. And yeah, Stubb is our President now. 🙂 25:20 That random quote from the background ("optimaalisia tuloksia") is actually "optimal results", which is kinda funny when the video is walking on small rocks. 😄 And at the same time stamp remember to make the "u" long in "Kuusijärvi". "Kuusi" is spruce. "Kusi" is piss. So you either swim in spruce lake or piss lake.
As a 45-year-old Finnish person living in Helsinki, the first time I heard about playing football in the mud was from Barby's video. So I don't think it's very popular. Also I've never seen the Aurora Borealis, and I have probably eaten reindeer about 10 times in my entire life.
A person living in Helsinki doesn’t really represent the average Finn.. there is so much more to Finland which persons living inside kehä III seem to completely overlook.
Swamp sports are a thing but not a popular thing. Never known anyone who does that. Schools have exams but those are not mandatory for to schools to have. Meaning that normal schools have tests like anywhere else but there might be some private schools for kids with hippie parents with no exams. Reindeer is like venison so I guess he ment its more gamy.
that's what confuses me the exam thing. Growing up we definitely had tests ever since elementary school and if you failed them you had to redo the grade. Also there was definitely homework, for some kids it was even too much! But if it's truly little to none compared to usa then they must have 0 free time outside of school.
School's have exams but there aren’t really any standardized tests (aka the same exact test for the whole country) outside of the matriculation examination. That’s what he meant not that we don’t have exams in school
I've been living here 15 years. Don't know if this guy lives here, but his Finnish pronunciation of towns was way off. Been to the Swedish/Finnish border many times,as shopping on the Swedish side is way cheaper, especially for alcohol .Relations with Russia have soured badly since the war in Ukraine, and they generally do not like Russians. .Or Swedes 😀 Reindeer and moose meat are popular and nice. Heavy metal,I don't get the obsession, though more well known band Hanau Rocks.
1) If you ever visit here, definitely try some reindeer! It's amazing! 😋 Moose is also good, but might be a bit more difficult to find on restaurant menu(?) - at least I have only eaten it thanks to knowing some hunters. 🫎 Bear I have tried once, but it wasn't for me tbh. (Bear meat tasted a bit like liver, which I personally don't like) 2) As a metalhead I must say: you are REALLY limiting yourself if you only listen to Nightwish out of all the wonderful finnish metal. Here are some other bands to check out: Ensiferum, Children of Bodom, Turmion Kätilöt, Belzebubs, Stam1na, Insomnium, Moonsorrow, Ajattara. 🤘 3) Have you guys seen the movie Sisu? If not, you should definitely do a reaction video about it! 😄🍿
And funny that the primeminister that he met, is now our current President.
And most probably he still goes to that same market place, at least our previous president did :)
I’m fairly certain that the Finnish PM they met was elected to be the President of Finland earlier this year.
There is no castle name by Savonlinna, Savonlinna is name of the city where Olavinlinna is.

" I don't wanna eat Rudolph. "
But I guess you'll gladly eat Mr. Potato Head from Toy Story. Whether its boiled, mashed or fried. 😂

Räme-football! Indeed. Not so much a city thing. And we have had AWESOME aurora borealis even at Tampere-area. AND reindeer IS tasty!

As a 41-y finnish person, its fun. You should try it.
You need to get out of helsinki more. Explore, it's a big country.

2 national language, Fiinnish and Swedish.
Bear = game? Bears eat also mushrooms and berries so maybe that effects the flavour of its meat.
Next Baltic counties? Singing Revolution!
