How to Speed Reload with a AK-47 | Training Techniques | Tactical Rifleman

  • Sid, from T1G, takes us through two different techniques on how to reload a AK-47. First, he covers the “standard” technique covered world wide. Then, he covers “sweeping the mag” with the fresh mag. This technique is slightly faster, if practiced. You can surf the web and find literally thousands of different videos show techniques on reloading the AR Carbine. Most have merit, most are repeats, and a few… well, they just shouldn’t be on the web. Keeping true to the spirit of Tactical Rifleman, we wanted to show valuable techniques and skills that aren’t always found on the mainstream websites. Take it, or leave it; but this is just one more “tool” to have in your “tool box” of weapon skills. Sid has taught hundreds of courses to our nation’s finest units. He wouldn’t teach this technique if it wasn’t battle-proven. Looking forward to your comments.

      @Cav Trooper 19D if you are in a sticky situation, like for instance a school shooting with multiple people. If your gonna do something to stop them, you have to use any rifle to your disposal, not fuss over not having the gun of your preference. Or your behind enemy lines, your likely going to have to use their weapon to escape, or complete the mission. So its best to don't give a crap about what rifle or ergonomics it has, and go with whatever you got.

    One thing that always annoys me is the idea of wasting mags. I've been taught to put the mag in dump pouch, not to drop them around the battlefield. It's very useful to have them when you get ammo refill during battle. Because the refill usually means just ammo in boxes, you're gonna need those empty mags.
    This reload is my favourite and with minor changes, it's possible to execute and conserve the mags.

    Not a particular fan of the secondary technique you used their which I call the 'cut' technique. While practice makes perfect and some AK operators can do it, there are still downsides.
    Particularly there are several things that may go wrong with it. One is that if you have a full mag, sweeping the mag out in a panic like that may overshoot you from the magwell due to inertia, and you'll possibly fumble trying to realign everything.
    Alternatively you may have a bad grip on a mag and it's the front tab that strikes the release, which can misalign or lose a round as STA training group have noted. Their work around is using the underside of the magazine which prevents that, though as point one, you may overshoot your positioning with the mag.
    Personally, one way to do a speed reload is to grab the new mag, use your THUMB to hit the mag release. As Polenar Tactical shows in his training vids and Rob Ski has noted, you can use your thumb against the trigger guard to guide you to the release, and are far more in control with how much you push with your thumb.
    Alternatively, get rid of the old mag first by sweeping the thumb, forgoing the need to grab the mag, and then proceed to new mag. This can speed up the process and is closest to the bog standard reload without you having to grab and guide the mag out yourself.
    That's my two cents, but I believe you did a pretty good job with the demonstration.

      A common flub people do with an reloads is missing the hook before they rock the mag back into the latch. so it "latches" but is not secured at the front of the magazine.

      @T800123 3 года назад +3

      Proving you have no experience with an AK. You can get the latch to click with the front locking lug not actually locked up, producing a click and a magazine that is stuck in an inoperable state that's immediately recognizable by yanking on the mag.

  • @damiion666
    @damiion666 8 лет назад +3

    How is this second method the same as how u reload with an ar? There is also more of a chance to fuck up the reload if the mag isn't properly rocked out with the fresh mag. Releasing it first and letting it drop to the ground, then grabbing a fresh mag is much faster and less chance to screw it up. It also more closely resembles how I used to reload my ar.

    • @Antiganos

      damiion666 because you don't have to manually remove the loaded mag with your support hand, same as with ARs. also, it's very reliable as a method and is the preferred method of reloading for spetsnaz and private military contractors because it saves a lot of time in the reduction of motion and allows a more fluid action.

    I think a few milliseconds are lost trying to look cool removing the mag with the other one. As soon as you get a click, hit the release with your thumb and THEN grab the new magazine. Much smoother entry way for mag from pouch. And while holding onto the magazine pull the lever with your right hand then reset to trigger/grip

    • @TacticalRifleman
      @TacticalRifleman  7 лет назад +20

      Sid was referring to the fact that most AR shooters, when empty, move their support hand straight to the next mag, rather than removing the mag from the gun. If, because of your muscle memory from shooting ARs, you grab a fresh mag, you can use the second technique to rack the mag out without releasing your strong hand from the fire controls. Hope this clears it up. TR.

You can probably just hot glue it into place too, not sure if the initial heat would damage the wood though, that’s what put me off from using that method. If you have polymer furniture you should be fine in that regard.

      I just installed the ram speed catch on a vepr. It's not faster than the thumb sweep. What is better at you can drop the mag with push of your finger and grab new mag rocking it in without leaving your shoulder easily. Or it's works perfect with thumb sweep and you don't hurt your thumb on multiple practices. Down side you don't hear and great CLICK with it. I would give it a 9/10. I run a vepr and it's nice to just drop the mag with my finger not moving from the firing control and grabbing a new mag with my left hand. Helps in my local military shoots competition.

    I would disagree completely.
    The quickest relaod is the combination of both. First reach out for a new mag and hold it near the bottom, and as long as your fingers is not super short, you should be able to release the empty mag in the conventional way while holding the new mag. Because you need to twist your wrist a little bit foward to release the old mag, it gives you a perfect angle to load up the new mag. The second way displayed in the video is slower because of that sweep movement.
    Try it and you'll know what I'm saying.

    nice reload on both techniques, looks smooth and secure. but don't do that head sweep afterwards. It is useless. In a real life situation you would do that with your gun up and in front or it would not make sense, you can't do that on the range so all you do is training bad habbits.

    Only i here think that this tacticals reloading is a peace of shit?
    In reloading you need to know only two things - how to attach the mag to the AK and how to send the cartridge to the chamber.
    Because only this thing you should know.
    This fast reloading for 1 second when you take your mag from one position etc. this is piece of shit.
    The only time when you can do it, when enemy in 15 feet from you and you dont have ammo, but he have...
    But i think the bullet fly faster then you can reload your gun.
    And try to stay on one position and reload gun while somebody shot you is a stupid thing.
    Ans i can’t imagine the moment when you in open field with enemy?
    If you sit in trench you dont need fast reload, when you sit in room you also dont need fast reload.
    Also people like to drop their mag. Okay when enemy in front of you can do it, also you can doit when enemy try too rush you room and you need fast reload, shot from corner and run away.
    But in most times you need to put your old mag in vest.

    • @TacticalRifleman
      @TacticalRifleman  5 лет назад

      So... you don’t think people should learn how to do things faster in combat? OK. Good luck with that. Thanks for watching, TR

    • @nikita228Rus
      @nikita228Rus 5 лет назад

      Tactical Rifleman I dont say that people dont need to know how to do this thing.
      But you do this on flat surface in open field. You dont do this in trench, under cover you do this on open field, where reloading on open field is bad thing to do.
      Second, you teach people to reload ak but also on your video you dont show lifehack about mag holding.
      And i say it to you.
      For best attach mag to ak you need to touch the knuckles of the fist to the ledge on the forearm of the AK where mag hole. If you do this your mag guaranteed attach to hole.
      Because if you show how to reload gun, you show it to the people who never reload AK. So they in first need to know how to attach to hole.
      This is all good for IPSC where people need to be fast, but in real combat if you got into a situation where you ran out of ammo, you're out of hiding, and the enemy in front of you, then you've done something wrong in your life.
      Yes, you can try reload the carbine while bullets are flying at you, most likely you will die, because standing when you are shot is not the best idea.

    • @nikita228Rus
      @nikita228Rus 5 лет назад

      Tactical Rifleman Tactical Rifleman Also the moment when you still have rounds in the mag. You can take the second mag, grab first mag, push release, and attach second, and put first in pouch.
      But i want to say not about how to do this.
      I want to say what you should do next.
      How i do this.
      I put the mag in pouch and follower of mag up. So now i know which mag is empty and which is full.
      Also, i have (i dont know how it on english and can t find this in google - so this thing on body armor make additional protection for the groin area.)
      So, i have this thing with soft armor (i just buy it for more molly) and on this soft armor i have utility bag, where i carrying something important (in most times - phone, camera, sport timer and something else,) when i need more bullets i just put more bullets in this bag.
      So, when i have time for load bullets i open this bag, take bullets and load the mag. And when my mag is full again i just flip it with mag follower down :)
      Maybe this will be two life hacks from me to: how attach mag to gun if you are newbie, and what you should to do with half empty mag

    Speed reloads are BS gaming/ LARP/ competition nonsense.
    SEEK COVER!
    It's smarter to run to cover with an empty weapon and reload there than stand upright in an active shooting situation and attempt to reload.
    Be smart.
