I crochet our wool covers and pants. Its easier than you'd think. And super cheap. A newborn cover costs me about 3 dollars in yarn and a toddler cover costs anywhere from 10 to 15. Pants are 6 -20. WAY cheaper. Hang drying pul is great advice. I have 7 year old covers that I'm still using on my 4th child.
I love this video! Currently 38wks pregnant with my second baby and crocheting wool covers for going over flats! I love that you simply use flats and covers, it’s so minimal and fuss free, I’ve switched from using a pocket Nappy system with my first and the difference I’m seeing in his skin (especially becuase he moves so much in his sleep) is INCREDIBLE! If I can put on a flat Nappy onto a one and a half year old in the dark at 3am I’m very confident that it’ll work for a newborn! Ps, now I’m binge watching your videos lol! I've crocheted woolies for all 3 of my sons. So worth it! Way cheaper and you can tailor them to the baby. You are diapering your baby and making precious keep sakes. 💕
I have a very similar setup of Sloomb and Grovia hybrid covers, which we use with fitteds. I also like and use the cotton Grovia hybrid inserts, which work well for us. But many days there's a fitted in there instead of the intended hybrid snap-in insert. We've used them over three years and two kids and it's been awesome. I never tried out any other brands or styles. I'm pregnant with my third baby right now and it is so tempting to try out more products, but I never let myself because a) $$$ and b) I feel like I have already found the "holy grail" cloth diapering system ha.
I feel you on that! At this point I’ve done my investing and no more shopping. Or I will start to defeat the purpose of saving on cloth diapers! Lol Making due with what we have. They are coming out with new stuff all the time but those good ol flats are a tried and true. Congrats on your third baby!! 🩷
Just want to add that they make single, double, and triple layer wool covers. If you are looking for trimmer wool covers, maybe try a single layer wool cover. Good video! Also, I love flats and you can use flats with every system. I use my flats with covers and pocket diaper's, but flats and prefolds are def my favorite for ease of washing and drying. Just want to add that alot of us that use a spray bottle, spray the baby lol not the wipe. I also love to use leg warmers for my little in cloth, no other way lol. Really nice cloth diaper video!

I was looking for “natural fiber cloth diaper” and came across your videos. we totally agree! the only thing I would add is that we use the disana covers at night since they’re so bulky, in the day we use the Puppi wool covers and they’re AMAZING. they’re super trim compared to the knit wool covers and generally fit under all of his clothes, although we live in Hawai’i so we often don’t wear clothes other than a onesie. we tried some crappy microfiber cloth diapers and my baby would get SO rashy. that’s what made us switch to wool and cotton and I could never look back. wool seems intimidating but it’s easy to keep up with once you know what you’re doing. now I just have to practice my flat folding because we used prefolds for my sons first size. I like the versatility of flats but dang getting that leg seal on a wiggly baby is a challenge 😅
I will have to look into the Puppi ones!! Sounds amazing for a trim will option. Yes, rashes and we had issues with the microfiber pads stinking bad too. Yes a decent leg seal is a little tricky Compared to other options! Keep testing out folds and figuring out what works for you! I’ll try to make a video on how I like to fold soon. A tip for bulky nappy bums! I just bought a three pack of organic cotton onesie extenders. Work great! They have snaps and literally just add another 5-7cm to the bottom of clothes.

I live in Europe so I am not sure if you'll be able to get the ones I did but they are from avo+cado :) worked great for me. the 3 extenders have 3 different snap sizes so they fit on pretty much any brand :)@@therooteddietitian

Bowyn, this is such a sweet and informative video! Thank you so much for sharing! I wish I had some of this information when our little was born. We went with disposables (and still are, she's 16 months old), we just had to many other life things on our plate when she was born and felt so very overwhelmed reading about the tons of methods/types of cloth diapers out there. Would you say that cloth diapering is easier/harder or what changes to expect as the kiddo gets older vs newborn? It feels to late to make the switch now but its crossed my mind since we spend close to $80 a month on disposables! Appreciate you taking the time to make this video, and congrats on the sweet addition to your family!

I wouldn't say more challenging per say, just different challenges because of the situation! knocking solids off takes an extra step and urine starts to get a stronger smell. At this age you can use them in conjunction with potty training AND they aren't going to the bathroom constantly! Around two we started catching some poos in the potty which made diapering easier. When my toddler was older, we moved towards summo style folding. You may have to experiment with different folds to see what you like. As he got closer to being potty trained we used the thick underwear (they have a little bit of absorbancy in there) with a wool cover. Bc accidents happen of course! Then used basic underwear and a wool cover when occasional accidents were still happening. This way he was getting used to pulling things on and off himself.AND learning that peeing makes you wet. (i think feeling wet is harder with disposables) Toddlers start to use the bathroom less frequently than a baby-- so let's say you just want to try it out, I think getting a pack of 6 or even a dozen, and one wool cover to try it out with would give you a good idea. You may have to wash every day but this gives you a chance to see if you can make it work. Worst case- you hate it and you have some on hand for emergencies if you can't get disposables. Green Mountain diaper has great options! The thing with these flat diapers is... there's so many ways to use them, I feel like you can't go wrong with a minor upfront investment. You may have to add extra absorbancy or try a different style of folding or cover, but you have options. if you made the investment in a wool cover to try out and you don't like it for diapering, you could totally use it just as an extra barrier when you transition to underwear. Even cloth diapering part-time can cut costs. I hope that helps and takes some overwhelm out. And thanks for the kind comment. :)

still proliferating plastic with those snappis and I cant imagine they're good for diapers long term, whereas I've had flats wear slap out from use and washing over 2 years but never had them wear from pins.
