Just realized dowager was speaking from experience with the “an empress without clan power and children is a difficult thing to be.” Hongli is not her biological son, and she had to battle intrigue after intrigue in Empresses in the Palace. She never became empress, either. Only Empress Dowager. Hongli’s blithe response- “If Ruyi can’t handle it, it’s her own incompetence”-may have colored her stint as empress. It’s easy to blame Ruyi’s failing all on her and not consider your own hand in it. It’s her fault for not being able to deal with being empress, after all.
Hongli’s always been a class act. Slimy and calculating but got mad when others did it and better than he did.

I really appreciated the Dowager. She had good points and also too as she says later in the series she knew that it d be bad for the relationship for her to be the Empress. She liked Ruyi after the cold palace time and that Ruyi treated her fully with the respect and filial devotion.

Seriously, this Emperor is so sentimental for a woman he didn't even love, and pretentious for he is doing that "mourning period" to show his ministries that he cares about the Empress even if not.
If there is really a mourning period then I am sorry for I wrote this.

There were prescribed mourning periods with the Manchu Qing, though at the imperial level they wouldn't necessarily be observed quite as thoroughly for the sake of keeping things running smoothly. It'd be more of a "we'll tone things down because we're still in mourning, but it's business as usual otherwise" usually.

in the drama he doesn’t love her in a way most women want from a husband, but he does cherish the efforts she had made for the royal family when she was alive, I’d say he was doing it for others to see but also for the fact that he would always miss the time when she was still here, you would see it if you see more episodes later, he compared Ruyi with the dead empress in the later eps because the dead empress had some qualities he needs from a traditional empress, for an emperor like him his wives need to be “functional” for his kingdom.

Yes, they have to keep up numbers of women who are able to have heirs, that's why there are so many of them, the time this is set in, medicine wasnt that great and death rates for children were high, especially royal children who are targeted for being royal, so they needed a way to ensure the royal blood line could continue and not rely on a single female

Correct. Basically empress dowager so alergic with ula nara clan. Just in this movie Ruyi is a kind lady, we feel Zhen Huan quite selfish in this series.

Either their names or honour titles? Xian means virtuous

Qing Changzai will eventually be Ling's ally, one of her most "outspoken" ally. She was actually one of the empress dowager's person (spy), the emperor will then find out about it and will make her infertile. Wan is one of the consort that will play quite a significant role in the downfall of Ruyi's and the emperor's relationship. As for the other, it might be for the sake of historical accuracy

Chun means "spring" or "pure". Jia means "beautiful" or "auspicious". Yu means "pleasant." Wan and Qing have many translations. When a concubine received a title name, it was usually based on some sort of attribute she possessed or a virtue that the emperor aspired for her to have. For example, Huang Guifei Huixian's name means "wise/sage" combined with "virtue."

    • @minimissneko2607

Probably because the emperor didn't like men touching or even helping there women

The females only deal with the Harem and maid duties, which can include discipline among other things, if they arent consorts and such.
