All your WIPs are “so Justine”, pink and beautiful. I encourage you to be gentle with yourself. You are a mom, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and good friend to many and a yarn shop employee extraordinaire. Seems reasonable to me that you can’t get to all of your knits in a timely manner. Good news is that they will be there when you are ready to pick them up again. Knitting is joyful and fun and relaxing and engaging and satisfying and police free. Your WIPs will get done when you’re ready to work on each one. No worries.
Justine, you might want to try the Gideon method to manage all your sweaters. I learned about it from the Tobyknits podcast. Essentially you make a list of a certain amount of WIPS and then starting at the top you put 12 hours (not consecutive) into that project. If it’s finished-hooray! If not you put it back to the bottom and put 12 hours into the next one on the list. I haven’t tried it yet, but think it will help me too. You have a beautiful selection of projects there! I wish you the best on your journey with Alzheimer’s-my Mom struggled with it for 15 years. May you find the support you need.💕
I’d say finish the sea glass sweater and gift it to your sister or a good friend if it doesn’t fit you. That way you see it being worn as a loving gift. I’m sure it would be cherished. And that always makes my heart feel full of love. And perhaps set a certain number of minutes a day to knit each sweater WIP. Then you’d work a bit every day and in a short time they’d each be finished and you could move onto other WIPs.
Justine, Justine, Justine, girlfriend we need a plan. Love all yr wips they look amazing & I think you would get a lot of wear out of them. Ok here we go 1. Try on the sea glass jumper. See how you feel about the fit. Make a note & then put it aside for the moment 2 Finish that gorgeous lace TShirt. Before you know it the weather will change & you will have something new to wear 3 Continue on with yr your lovely pink cardy. And at the same time start chipping away at sweater No 23. I really really need to see what you think of this one as I have it in my queue & have the yarn waiting 4 Continue on with both Cardigans (not the Tay Tay one) 5 Since you have been such a superstar you get a free pass & you can cast on something new. By this point you probably have 5 finished objects🎉 6 Now this will be interesting 🤔 Pull out the Sea Glass, do you love it still? Do you want to make it short sleeved? Either way crack on finish it. It’s beautiful & love love love yr choice of colours 7 You maybe exhausted as you have been so good you may need another new cast on 8 It’s Tay Tays turn now & oh look at that it’s time to start gift knitting for Christmas 😂😅 Not sure I helped good luck 🤞
Seaglass - no. 1 - try it on… no. 2 weave in a few ends now and then … no. 3 consider sleeves in just the gray - long or short… :) It’s such a beautiful sweater!
Make the Sea Glass shot sleeves and don’t worry about weaving in ends yet. The finish that Flirt. You’ll be excited that it’s ready when summer arrives. Then finish the LBA-yarn cardigan. It’s GORGEOUS. Just suggestions ☺️😍
Justine, I think it's terrific that you don't feel guilt over your sweater wips. I think you could knit the pink cardigan that is speaking to you (sorry I forgot the name) but I so think this is a great time to finish your summer flirt tee. You are not that far from finishing it. We may get a mild spring day and you'll have this beautiful tee to wear. The color is very complimentary for you. As other are saying your Sea Glass just needs to be tried on and that can get finished quickly especially if it's going to be short sleeves. You got this Justine. Can't wait to hear what you decide :)
Wow--that is a lot of WIPS! However, working at a yarn shop it is so tempting to make all the things!! Here's my suggestion: finish the Moondrake sweater first as it seems to be the most "done" already and it's a pretty pink that you love. Then go to Sweater #23 because you "love, love" it. #3--the No Frills Sweater because you spoke of that one highly as well. #4--The Sea Glass and make it a tee. I did that one, and while I love the final result, I did not love making it, but yours is almost finished and it's lovely. #5--The All Yellow cardigan, #6--the cardigan with La Bien Aimee yarn, and #7--the cable cardigan (but only if you really love it and not because your friend made it). I'm basing my suggestions on the way you talked about each of them and where you are on them. I personally can only handle 2 projects at a time, even though I have stash for hundreds!! I like to have a challenging project for the day and an easy one for TV knitting in the evening--and maybe one more a a portable project. Beyond that I get stressed!! Good luck, and I look forward to seeing your finished work. And, I pray for you and your dad.
Idea for seaglass: leave short sleeved (bright colors work for spring ~esp with bright long-sleeved tshirt underneath. If too small AUCTION online thru skein-scoop pod. Might get actual worth instead if just selling.
You seem to have WIPS in the boring phase which is perfect to do while reading! I think you will breeze through these now that you are reading more. I started consistently walking/hiking on my Peloton treadmill January 26. I feel fabulous. I have more energy to spend throughout the day. I think you’ll find the new habits you create by committing to ride your bike in March will spill out in so many other areas that you won’t be “mad” about less knitting time. You’ll figure this all out and come out the other side invigorated with all of your done WIPS, more books read AND a better cardio system. 😉
Always enjoy seeing all you’re working on. I think when you talk about what brings you joy, that’s what you should work on. And definitely try to get that flirty tee done in time for summer! Hope to see you in person soon! 💕💕
Good morning Justine, Please finish that Seaglass sweater!!!!! It is so lovely. You could just knit the sleeves in your gray base color that the ribbing is in and it would look really nice. Then if you don't get the fit you like yes, sell it to some fortunate recipient and let them love it! Love your vlog! Carrie from Northern San Francisco Bay Area 😘❤🐶🐑☕🌧☔🧵🪡🧶
All of your WIPs look beautiful. The No Frills & My Favourite Thing sweaters look most like your style. Maybe adopt the Knitty Natty tip of working on one thing for 30 minutes every day for one and pick up the other when you’re relaxing. Bless you for your Alzheimer’s Ride. I lost my mom, grandmother, and uncles to this awful disease. My best to you and your family as you navigate this difficult journey.
Thanks for sharing all your Works in Progress with us. I think you should rank the %age of completion of each and place them in an order- finishing the ones that will give you most success with the least amount of time. Dont be so hard on yourself, your Cozy Comfort Throw was a big knit, so it makes sense that other projects would be placed on hold temporarily. Perhaps make a pact with yourself that you wont begin another project until you finish, 3 current ones. Of course, working at the yarn store is a huge temptation. I'm loving that SeaGlass....
When I feel overwhelmed when I have too many WIPS i make myself pick a different one each evening and do a dedicated night on it, and then do a different one the next night. This helps me not get bored with it, and I feel I am accomplishing something. Making progress on them all, it helps me get re-acainted with the patterns and where I'm at with them all, and that they are no stuck in a corner somewhere. I think you have to be really strict with yourself when y9u have too many, to not start anything else, as that just adds to the problem.
I notice you loose MOJO (motivation) just after you've split for sleeves. You've said you're a process knitter, so I'd say you love the yoke (intricate) part & once you get a clear pattern & finish that initial part, you loose motivation when it's the in-the-round parts of body & sleeves. I did my doctoral work in motivation/expertise & I wld suggest a few things: pick a specific day to work on a WIP & a specific activity (waiting at bb practices, at shop, watching tv). Then reinforce your behavior by setting small goals with a reward. So if you just stick to your schedule (seaglass at home M,W,F watching tv) give yourself a small reward (reading for an hr in bath/2 chocolates, whatever). Then when you finish a part (each sleeve or even every 5 inchs) give yourself a bigger reward (new paperback, favorite meal/treat out, buy movie online). Then for actual finishing whole sections, bigger reward (new yarn, new pattern) & finally once it's finished big, huge reward (enough yarn to make next project or big fantastic project bag)! So chunk up goals into small to big & create a reward "menu" (reward choices for meeting each level/type of goal). This works great with any change you want to make in behavior w/yourself, kids, employees, etc. You're very organized so it should be easier for you. It's imp to chunk up into small enough goals, stick to schedule, & ALWAYS REINFORCE achievement of goals (small & big). You got this! (If you want to look up this behavior modification process look up "Premack goal setting" I think it was David Premack who developed this method.
I was going to vote for finishing the Summer Flirt Tee first because the color is gorgeous, spring is on the way, and you’re so close to being done. But it seems like the cardi is calling you, so I say focus on that and then the Flirt Tee. Hopefully it will be motivating to whip out two FOs and then you’ll be ready to turn to one of the others or can allow yourself to CO something new. And aaaah, I love Fourth Wing! If you do too, you should definitely read Sarah J Maas’s books next! The Court of Thorns and Roses series is my favorite of hers. I’m rereading right now by listening to the Graphic Audio full cast audiobooks and I’m just as obsessed as I was when I originally read them!
Justine, I love that you took the time to go through sweater WIPS with us. I really think everyone has their own comfort level with # of WIPS and it sounds like you would feel more comfortable with a few of these WIPS finished. There are a couple of quick finishes but you want to work on your beautiful Cardi, so I would start with that. I can’t even imagine working in a yarn store. I would probably cast on something new every day! I went through the Alzheimer’s journey with my dear mother and I appreciate that you are willing to share your journey and that you are raising money to help eradicate this terrible disease.
Hi Justine, On the Skein Yarn Shop podcast you mentioned being a process knitter. I on the other hand am a project knitter. I need my world to be tidy and very linear, which translates to a max of 3 projects at any time or my mind explodes and I have anxiety about completing everything and I freeze. However, as a project knitter, I see frustration rather than anxiety, so that's good. Might I suggest, as another podcaster also found themselves in your situation - with too many good things to knit that you just want to knit them all. Try to chisel out 10 or 20 minutes a day on just one of your languishing projects. Be consistent on just that one. If after a week you're not impressed, then I'd say it's time to FROG it. But if after that week you're like, wow I've made great progress, then keep the pace going and try another item after you've got that one under your belt. Don't stop new projects from hitting your needles during your "Making Progress Marathon" cause you might just end up resenting the 10 minute project from keeping you from all the other fun stuff. I know you're doing the 200 mile bike ride for Alzheimer's and that's awesome. Perhaps you can turn getting these knits done into another donation avenue. I know you're competitive, so if you take a languishing project and set a completion date for yourself you could give yourself a goal of donating $'s once done. You might even expand your $ donating group to family, friends, Skein Yarn Shop customers or even subscribers as a further motivation to get things completed. Something similar to the concept of "every mile biked gets a donation" perhaps you can do something like "every sweater completed gets a donation." Just a thought. Good luck on the bike ride and completing your knits.
Hello Justine, Maybe you can finish the sweater which is closest to being finished, making your list of WIPs shorter, freeing up a bag for your next cast on! Good luck with your project list and your bike ride!
Great, great video, Justine! Loved seeing all your wips. Boy does that happen to me. I have at least 2 sweaters that I have not returned to in a year or two. I just get distracted by something else, like gifts for others, etc. Can't wait for more videos of you and your day. sending love, hugs, prayers. (prayers for you on your beautiful bike ride for a great cause)
A lot of sweaters on the go and all are beautiful. I would start with the one that needs the least amount of work as it would be a quick and satisfying finish. The Seaglass one would be very pretty with short sleeves and those ends are daunting. Instead of taking knitting for car waits, you could darn in some ends and that would be satisfying to finish that one off. It’s so much fun to cast on new projects but you have so much already invested to not finish the WIP’s off. I hope your podcast, talking about it all, helps to encourage finishing them. We all get in the slump of having too much on the go at once. Finishing one will encourage you to keep going finishing more before starting more. Good luck.
All your projects are really pretty, Justine. Looks like you have al lot of great suggestions here in the comments. Every single one will be beautiful!
Hey Justine, great episode! every single one of those sweaters are beautiful, and the colors are perfection. I think you should just find the one that brings you the most joy at the moment and finish it. You can do it! 😅
Oh what a great episode - I love seeing all your sweater WIPS - makes me feel less bad about all mine! ha ha. That seaglass sweater is gorgeous! You should absolutely finish it. Also, my no frills sweater is my most worn sweater so definitely put the time in to finish it - you'll love it! I reckon you should prioritise the summer tee because you would smash it out in a couple of days and that feeling of winning and finishing something will spur you on to work on the others 🥰
You made me look at my WIPS too. I think you should finish the summer flirt tee. Just a few inches and tiny sleeves. It will give you the boost to work on the cardigan next. Rachelle in Seattle
How about assigning each project with a number and have charlotte roll the dice and whatever number pops up you pick that project to finish, or at least devote significant time to. BTW - you didn’t mention your Skein Cocaine blanket ?? Hope you didn’t give it up!
I watch another podcaster who has at least 36 WIPS and she rolls a dice and numbers her projects. She then commits to work on numbered project that corresponds to the number she rolled. She must work on it for a week. If she finishes it great then it’s an FO for her next podcast. Then the next week she rolls a dice again etc. If she doesn’t finish it, it goes back in the project bag to maybe get rolled again. Her name is Karma’s A Stitch. Good luck.
Justine! Finish that sea glass! It’s gorgeous…if it’s mostly super wash, it’ll stretch a lot when you block it!
All your WIPs are “so Justine”, pink and beautiful. I encourage you to be gentle with yourself. Totally agree! Put it on cords, soak and block before your try on. What a great spring top.

Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
Hey Justine, great episode! every single one of those sweaters are beautiful, and the colors are perfection. I think you should just find the one that brings you the most joy at the moment and finish it. You can do it! 😅

Oh! Your SeaGlass is so pretty!
Justine! A. Nothing is wrong with you…we get it! B. You need more tanneicasey…STAT & C. Definitely Sea Glass with short sleeves
Thanks for sharing! 😊
You blanket is beautiful!
The sea glass … finish it… it’s beautiful…. Try it on.. will make you look at it in a different light….
Perhaps consider braiding theinner ends of the seaglass sweater. Several videos show the method.
Love your podcasts, hope you're planning on making this a regular thing? ❤
Can I ask what you are wearing and the yarn? It looks sooooo cozy!
It’s a store bought sweater from years ago…
Ha! Looks nice even though!
hi do what brings you joy in your knitting i like the 2 pink maybe try 1/2 an hour each day i am a new knitter
You should start a book club on your podcast.
How about assigning each project with a number and have charlotte roll the dice and whatever number pops up you pick that project to finish, or at least devote significant time to. BTW - you didn’t mention your Skein Cocaine blanket ?? Hope you didn’t give it up!
My blankets are still going. I was only talking today about sweaters though.
I watch another podcaster who has at least 36 WIPS and she rolls a dice and numbers her projects. She then commits to work on numbered project that corresponds to the number she rolled. Maybe you could draw numbers, so you don’t have to make decisions.
