I bought a used 2005 Chevy Express 1500 van with rear HVAC. The rear heat control is a ferrous wheel fan switch on the dash bellow the trailer towing button. When I turn on the rear fan with the front heat working, only room temperature air is coming out, not heat. Is the coolant flow to the rear controlled by a valve in the engine compartment so hot coolant doesn't overpower the ac? There are no controls in the back as shown in the manual for the other type of system.

thank you so much for posting this! I have the 2001 savanah 3500 and my compressor is making some weird noises. the person i bought it from ran the wires into the van passenger side but it wasn't connected anywhere. i had to follow the power wire for the compressor to see if it had power and noticed it was just clipped wires sitting there. once i connected those wires to 12V the compressor kicked on but was making lots of noises. it also seems a bit low on pressure while on and high pressure readings on the low side while compressor is off. once compressor is on it shows really low readings on the gauge. im about to pull this all apart to check if its the tensioner pulley or compressor clutch making the noise and then i may just need to fill it with some more oil to make it fully cold again. wish me luck!

Well this was helpful, but you could have made it a bit longer and when slower with more steps, but good stuff.
I have a Express 1500 and thinking about trying to do this myself if I can find the wright video to guide me.
    Darren.

My ac blows cold but sometimes when I idle it just blows air not cold then when I drive it blows cold air some times when I idle it’s fine

Check your radiator fan. The air while driving is blowing col cause air is moving through it. At stops the radiator fan should kick on to simulate you driving. If i dont turn on the freon gets too hot.

The evaporator on 1996-2002 Chevrolet Express’ is inside the cabin on the passenger side (right side). Good luck.
