Can confirm this worked for my 1997 GMC Savana 2500 5.7L! For some reason this process for replacing the evaporator isn’t even listed in the repair manual. Much easier to access than many cars where you have to remove the whole dash.
greg koeppen I'm glad it can be of assistance to you... One thing I learned afterwards is that I have to maintain an air tight seal when reassembling it, or it makes the blower lose power. Make sure you replace the insulation where the pipes exit the housing.. and get all the screws back in, even the difficult ones on the very top and very bottom.
Check back later for more videos about this van. still working on the AC system, so I'll be posting some more videos soon. I'm sorry I forgot to take one about putting the new Evaporator in, but some tips are to use Blue Moly or some kind of never seize on the threads to keep them from binding up. Click subscribe for more videos as I repair this vehicle, and others, and post more and more knowledge as I figure out how this system works!
Great video man... hope ot all turned out.. I believe I have to replace the divider on my heater core... because I have a nasty drip. Replaced the pump and radiator today.
Weird question but how far behind the box/cover you're holding at 0:20 does the actual evaporator sit? is it right up against that plastic cover or is there a gap? The reason is I want a spot to mount an accessory relay near the battery, and I'm wondering if I put a VERY short screw into the back of that plastic box will it immediately go into my evaporator and cause hell? Since you've had it off, I wonder if you could tell me, I'd rather not have to take it off just to find out, or find out the hard way!!!
Hey I have a 1996 GMC Van that blows ice cold in the rear. But the front barely blows cold only on the far right passenger vent. I have replaced the Ac compressor, orifice tube, blend door actuator and Freon with no luck. What were the symptoms of your ac?
All I remember was that there was no AC at all... I don't remember if I got the rear working or not... It's been like 1½ yrs since I sold it, so I don't really have a way to look and refresh myself on the AC system.. sorry! :)
Bro this video was about the evap core and up until now u still haven’t even shown a pic of the evap u removed so we could at least see how it looks so I kno I’m getting the rite one mannnn .
Dude I made this video like years ago and it's the only evaporator removal I've ever done. Didn't think about showing the part... You can look the part up online to see pictures. I did the best I could, with zero ability to edit the video, and I sold that can soon after the video. Please don't be hating on my video, I'm just trying to help however I can.
Besides, the purpose of the video was not to help you know if the part looks the same, but rather a step by step process and some tips about how I replaced it, in case y'all needed help with the actual replacement.

Yes... It sucks when your a/c goes out... It can be one of the trickiest things to fix. I ended up having to replace the entire system...

How did you get that top bolt out on blower box the hardest one
I don't remember, man, and I don't have the vehicle to look at anymore. Sorry...
THANK YOU I'M SICK AND TIRED OF SO CALLED GOOGLE HAVING VIDEOS and they keep coming up as the pickup 🤬🤬🤬
Did you do a video when you got the part? I broke mine replacing heater control valve.
Man, I did it right after I got the part and as I was putting it on... But that was almost 3 years ago. I haven't had that can for 2 years.
Any time you open the system, you need to vacuum...to pull all moisture out
