In 1982 a lady put her hand on my leg looked a me and asked "could I" I replied absolutely. That lady passed a way 34 years later and she had that dance for those years.

My parents died in 2021, my dad in August and mom in November and my dad would sweep my mom up in his arms and dance with her! 😭. My mom also used to dance with us to this song. I miss them so much! I’m sorry for your loss.

What a beautiful, beautiful melody,, and song, and lady, of course, Anne Murray! Doesn’t she look stunning, in her “White On Black” outfit. Beautifully tailored jacket, with cuff detail, and slightly flared trousers. Perfection. Such a classy lady! Have been a fan , since her first, big hit, with “ Snowbird “, and from then on, there was no stopping her,hit, after hit, she won everything , before her, award, after award, 🇨🇦 Canada’s first gold “Songstress”! Such a tremendous velvety alto voice, and yet again, when the song, called for it,….surprising, sweet soprano vocals, took over from the gorgeous ,melodic alto notes. Pure magic. To my shame, I lost track of her, over years,…but the song,” Snowbird “….the “Tune”, was always, inside me. Life happens, marriage, kids, …responsibilities,…illness, and eventually. Grief, deep grief,, at the sudden loss of a loved one, which almost, took the soul from me. And music, song,for while,, meant little, to me.I had a great love 💕,of all things musical, and was blessed with a very good singing voice, fr 3:05 3:05 3:05 3: a very young age, and was involved, in such activities, most of my life, at amateur level only, but such interests, deserted me,for a long time. When COVID reared its ugly head, 2018/2019, I was by then ,well into my senior years, and living alone.My family, gifted me, with an IPad! so they could keep in touch with me. It was such a frightening time, for everyone,, thousand, lost their lives, to the horrendous epidemic,which left the whole world 🌎 in panic, and overwhelmed, and seemingly helpless,to protect itself. Thank God, and please God, the worst is over. And, the wonderful thing,for me, during that awful time, my IPad saved me,especially during “lockdown “, when fear, and loneliness, could have disastrous consequences, specially for older age groups. U Tube, and it’s wonderful videos , reconnected me with all the wonderful music of my era, 50,s, 60,s, 70,s,80,s……marvellous!!But, most of all, it brought back to me, my “jewel in the crown “……my wonderful Anne Murray!! Such happiness,has again come into my life,and tho, I rarely get to bed, til the early hrs, it’s worth it! I have other favourites, of course,but my first love, was opera, as my father had a lovely tenor voice, and so grew up with, the worlds great tenors, of the times, Caruso, Gili,Jussi Bjorling,Richard Tauber, etc, and came to appreciate, and admire , those tremendous voices. My repertoire was varied, and I adored The Everly Brothers, and their wonderful guitar playing, and unmatched harmonies, they showed everyone how, it was done, all the musical greats, learned, from , and admired them, Emmy Lou Harris, for Nashville, Tennessee,Country Western, and Blue Grass music, great lady, also still, going strong, ( I believe)in her late 70,s. And Mr Neil Diamond, for wonderful song writing, best in world,of his time, poetic lyrics, all formed ,from his own life experiences, and a humble,and gentle human being, now in retirement, living with PD, I wish him well. But, here I am at 2am, May, 2024, and yet again, listening to wonderful Anne Murray, singing,……”Whispering Hope””It Is No Secret” , “How Great Thou Art”,”You Needed Me”, and of course, Can I Have This Dance”, many more.,,all beautifully sung, with such feeling, tenderness, and seemingly effortlessness!. Tremendous voice. Anne, is now retired,( I believe), with ten or more years. I wish her only the best, and hope she is enjoying life, and good health, that she so richly deserves. With admiration. One night, exhausted, I went to a housewarming/Halloween party some younger members of my firm had hosted, and to which I had been invited. I was tired, having been demonstrating all day in my city, the issue and city not relevant.
I wasn't going to go, but my young associates really wanted me there. So I went. They had arranged for me to meet with a blonde, blue-eyed nurse sort as I was between marriages. Instead, I found my eyes trained on this marvelous woman dressed lie Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. She was dark, very Greek. Sharp-tongued. Whip smart. We have been together more than 30 years now, and are old. I have told her if she dares a funeral, I want this song played to send me off. Because it is, what she is, to me.

I was in a wedding in 1982, and they had a dance afterwards. My girlfriend at the time Also was there. They played this song, and even though neither one of us knew how to waltz, we danced to it anyway. My girlfriend started crying. I asked her why she was crying? She said it was because she loved me so much, and wished that we could be together like this forever. Unfortunately, our relationship only lasted about a year. I wished that I would have married her instead.

But that said, ever since i first heard it, I've had a fear bordering on Mortal Dread of being at a wedding reception or some such Event and a woman coming up to me (not sure if it would be worse if I knew her or if I didn't) and asking me to dance just as this song was starting.
