How long has the mother plant been in the ground? Did you do anything to disturb the roots or did it do that because of the hard winter knocking it back? I know they will sucker regardless. But that is a lot of pups! Mine is new and only about a meter tall. It was dug as a small pup last year. I’m really looking forward to it getting above my head
Thanks for your comment. It's been in the ground 3 years and last year it was a great size. The winter wasn't even that cold but I'm not sure if because it began to flower late in the year last year and the flowers rotted in the cold maybe that rot travelled down the trunk a little. I lost around 18 inches of trunk. It was then slow to start regrowing in the spring but once it did so did the pups. I've now removed 5 more but left around the same in the ground for now. Without the die back I would of have the effect I was looking for which is to walk under the canopy. I must admit I now luke that it has branched off and has 2 strong growth points and should add to the plant in the long run. Since this video it's grown a fair bit and hopefully next year I'll be underneath it. Good luck with yours they are a great plant.
