- Purchased one of these basses and have basically reliced it how I want it but here is a look at one. It is a really nice cheap bass. Only criticism if any is the tuners feel a little cheap. Fret ends finished well. Pickup sounds nice although I have put a Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 in it. Considering the PC speakers were up loud the sound hasn't come across well so I recorded a little of the direct sound at the end of the video. Finger play tone up and down and plectrum too. Unfortunately this is only with the Seymour Duncan SCPB-3 in. This pickup is quite a bit higher output, clearer and harmonics sing on it. Saying that I liked the growl from the original too. The Duncan seems more clinical.
Sounds like a fight has broken out in a music shop. You have the touch of an elephant.
Malsipots awesome
@@Fogeyspasm lol what accurate description
More playing, Less vandalism. Just don't get this RELIC craze !!
Ronnie Sundown trou he was trying to match a famous imstrament
Ronnie Sundown I agree.
Finally a review of that epic bass! thank you
That vintage look that you did is just so nice! i wish i can do something like that to my bass..
Nothing like buying a brand new guitar and making it look like crap
Wouldn't know
I don't gate all the hate on the comments. This is an informative video and I find the relicing quite nice. Relic is MEANT to be ugly.
Regarding his playing skills he clearly states "I am not a bass player but I like it". So who the hell are all of you elitist snobs to judge the guy?
Thanks for the video and keep it up buddy.
Greetings from Greece.
Besides all the people that complain about the look.... It looks lovely.. I would prefer it all the way.
...You'd probably be lucky to get ten quid for it now, bravo.
Shows how wrong you are then. Sold it a while ago for more than I paid for it!🤔
You could have spent those 4-5 hours of time on practicing to play...
hello, I do not know English, so I can not translate the video, congratulations for the excellent work, how did you paint the handle? how did you get that relic effect? Have you applied a product after removing the paint?
awesome bass playing
lol
hey would you recommend that particular seymour pickup, its just sometimes strong pickups lack definition
steven smith sad I got rid of it now. Nice bass to play and that pickup was excellent. Very clear and precise but punchy too.
thanks thats great, i was torn between a vintage single coil or this one, after that its a question of can i make the pickup wiring from a squier telecaster bass with this pickup (not that i expect you to answer, just something im considering)
...Never could understand why people take a wonderful looking and playing instrument, and totally ruin it, and brag about their carnage.....incredible.
Because not everyone has the same view as yourself. That is why.
Jesus Christ, every time you hit a string, every known dead bass players turn in their graves...
Hi Andrew, a nice job ... for them who liked relicing ... Thanx for sharing. ... Don't know, why the others leave negative comments here instead of playing their instruments?! ;-) ... Would you please go into more details, how you have done these very nice relic? Best Regards ...
Hi. I just looked at a few Pictures of Stings bass. Removed the gloss finish with a fairly rough wet and dry paper then started removing the stain finish in wear areas with a less abrasive paper. Added a few bangs and dints in the body. Afterwards it was washed down and polished with an abrasive polish just to bring a bit of a sheen back otherwise it looks too matt. All the metalwork was taken off and rubbed with steel wool to scratch the surface then I put etching fluid on them. This ages the metal in seconds if you don't water it down. Pretty vicious stuff. Always wear gloves with it and wash off the item when you get the look you want. Doesn't work very well with chromed finish parts as the whole point of chrome is to protect the metal but if you get through the finish in places or lots of scratching it will still work. www.maplin.co.uk/p/etching-fluid-250ml-wf10l
6:32 "some slap.. sound nice"

So far have bought two Harley Benton Basses and a guitar for a friend. All three have been excellent. Can't fault any of them. Maybe a tweak of setup but they even have D'Addario strings on as standard. This one isn't heavy but the Jazz is as heavy as hell.
Sting fan :)) . I want to do that too but is it worth it ?
This bass is really cheap at Thomann, so I would say it is
The original one had string through body, wonder if this is possible with the wood of this body.
Should be. I did that conversion on a Telecaster which was a fairly soft wood body. Drilled and fitted the metal ferrules and never had any tuning issues.
Thnx for the quick answer.
It's probably just learning how to play the bass to sounds like it
Mate! Dont make a doc on a guitar if you dont know how to play!!!
Why!? ... just why! The Fender logo is too far
Supposed to look like Sting's very battered bass. Would have looked rather odd without the Fender decal. The lad I gave it to is very happy with it. Sounds great and plays well so good result.
The relic was made on the original varnish ?
Yes. Lovely looking bass till I got sandpaper to it.
You don't play bass at all do you
No.
14 and a half minutes ain't quite a "quick" look.
Could use a propper set up is what I hear.

It sounds like you're playing too hard r the action is too low.
Relicing your instrument. That´s just pure stupidity.
why
Embarrazing ! Shame on you !
Bawbag
Your tone deaf
What? Can't hear you. Speak up.
