This is gorgeous. I have a blue and gold macaw, Molly. She was a rescue, they really should not be anywhere except in the wild. Beautiful birds, they should have their freedom.

Thank you! This too is a rescue, the place I visit is all wild rescue animals recovered from customs or from circuses etc. Sad to see birds enclosed.

    'Amazon Airway'
    Fantastic👏👏👏
You've really captured the movement of flight. The colours are so vibrant and the background evokes the atmosphere associated with a tropical rainforest. Thanks for taking the time and sharing 👍

Hi Emma. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad).
AMAZING ARTWORK! I just LOVE the movement of flight you've accomplished in the piece... it's almost as if the bird is alive and flying! OMG!
I am a nature and wildlife artist (that's my main passion), though I also do Plein Air and Urban Sketching when I can (I have strong health impediments and mobility issues and... Art has helped me out of a very bad depression since I live with constant very strong pain throughout my whole body 24×7×365).
I work in graphite & charcoal, but my paintings are in watercolor and gouache.
I've never tried pastels, though... and after watching this FFWD video I am amazed on the control and accuracy achieved...
To me though... I fell in love with your composition and how you made the bird (parrot, though I'm not sure which one but probably from South America) seem to be alive and in full flight leaving the tree branch...
    Amazing!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING!
I have a question if you do not mind me asking...
When using pastels it seems you can paint light to dark and dark to light (I mean... like with Oil painting, for example). Did I understand it correctly? And... which pastel paints for a startup artist in this media would you suggest to purchase considering a limited budget and a strong will to learn?
Thank you in advance and... I am amazed with your Art work!
    Cheers from Sunny Spain!
    😁👍😎✌

Hi Jim, yes it's quite similar to the approach with oil painting (within reason) Main difference is it has a limit and once the paper is full it's hard to apply light pastel on top of dark. I always recommend buying a little better quality where possible as the quality pastels do behave differently in terms of application. They are also more lightfast, but for learning that's maybe not as important. Unison pastels are my favourite. But I started with cheap student grade pastels so don't let budget hold you back. Just get going with whatever you can afford.

Simply amazing and beautiful. You captured the movement of the parrot wings masterfully. I am still learning to find the balance of optimal pastel application in pastelmat paper so I don't oversaturate the paper tooth too early in the process. I find that is the most challenging issue for me

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  6 дней назад

That's a big issue for most of us. Finding the balance depending on the paper you're using. A lot of that comes from the practise and we've all had the failures along the way that showed us we went too far haha!

That's why I make lots of real time videos where you can actually paint along with me. Try this one which is completely free here on RUclips. ruclips.net/video/HyUvthXDS7I/видео.html
