I didn’t realize how helpful thumbnails are! I love 3 & 4 mostly, perhaps the 3 best of all - it’s hard to say Your studies really get me thinking! Great idea to do thumbnails first👍🏼❤️. Lynda🧚🏼♀️💕
Hi Emma. I prefer the #4 : lilac/yellow (complimentary colours). I live in the Alps and The colors of the snow here are always very rich and varied unless there is no sun like the photo ref. I am more interesting in working on complementary colors with the add of a touch the monochrome as you said in the end of the demo. Thank you so much Emma !
First of all: thank you for your service to experiment and show us the effects of the different compositions of colours. I like the first (monochrome grey) and the last (blue / violet and yellow) best. From my point of you these two have the most differences but: the first one gives us an impression of the calm of a winterday with a fresh snow blanket. The last one shows us the liveliness the same scene can develop if the daylight changes. Really impressive how you catch that with the right collection of pastel sticks and some lines on the paper. And another thank you: English is a foreign language for me and I often wonder where the artists come from who show their videos on youtube. You mentioned in this video that you come from Ireland. So this mysterie is solved 😉
Thank you for the comment! I think colour is the best way to show the mood and it can change so subtly. A bit like in music where if you change one note of a chord it changes the mood significantly. It's an interesting path to go down. And congrats on your 2nd language English skills!
@@EmmaColbertArtThank you for this compliment after more than 50 years of learning and practising English, the better part of this time the American "version". It is amazing to learn about the smaller and bigger differences and get familiar again with the British English via pastel art videos😊.
I would go the direction of number 4 but reducing the color saturation with the monochrome pallet of the first thumbnail. In maintaining a dreary, threat of snow feeling, I would not use the sepia tones in the sky. Watching your journey into landscape painting has been a real treat. I need more experimentation before I begin my work, this is inspiring! Thanks Emma, you're my muse!
Thanks for the comment! I'm enjoying exploring that world and finally I think managing to break out of some habits that were holding me back in landscapes. Always a work in progress which is the way to be!
Thanks for the vid. I would paint this in the blue violet as my first choice for sure. Very good idea to do thumbnails both for tonal values and color choices. better to make our mistakes here rather than on the larger painting (of which I have made many!)
Wow Emma you channel is growing by the day, you are not far from 50K subscribers. It is tough to choose a favourite- I like the warmth in 2. I love the light sienna showing though 3 and complimentary colours 4. Whichever you choose I know it will be fabulous.
Love the last one- that is what draws me
I love the idea of thumbnails- Its a good warm up .
I love number 3 but actually 4 has a touch of sunlight glow, so thats my favorite 😍 ❤
No3 definitly! Gorgeous blue violets ❤

I like #4 the best, but all of them are very interesting. You did a great job on your artwork here.
I like adding a lot of color
For me, it's numbers one and four. I really like the starkness of number one, but the combination of colours in number four is subtle but effective.

I really like your process of using several thumbnails to experiment. I prefer number 1 (monochrome) with a healthy hint of number four added to it.
I love the mono chrome but would love to see a blue /grey thumbnail.

I like all 4.
A subtle combo of 3 and 4. Some color, but it's hiding :)
I like the warmth of the second one. I think the paper color is throwing me on the last two.
The third thumbnail looks more of a natural snow colour scene x
Number 3 for me. I a strange way it's a warm cold 🤷♂️

I agree with your decision and look fwd to seeing the result.
