I hated everybody in this episode apart from buffy and spike, it was literally her job to protect people and I don't think she wanted to come off as bossy I think just wanted to always put people first
Yes I forgot this part. I'. Pretty big Anya fan she wasn't not used enough I don't think. But look at her there. Buffy had the world put on her shoulders. Those abilities are great but would someone want them? Anya was a demon and got depressed when losing her powers and willow had gotten addicted to casting spells.

I could see a lot of people's points except Anya's and Rona's and increasingly Kennedy, who was making a power grab. She's wasn't lucky, she was burdened and had to lose people time and time again, and she absolutely earned it, she literally sacrificed herself multiple times

@@az21bob666 they went through her inheritance from Joyce while Buffy was dead, then when she came back to life she got a job. The other people living in her house like Willow or Tara were not shown to have jobs or work long hours like Buffy in season 6
there was almost no inheritance, they still had mortage light food, willow and tara are not show to have job BUT they were at acollege and LIVE at colleg and show they had money, so they used that same money to help. dawn got child support, but it was still not enought buffy had to get a job, FF job alone would not even pay the mortage so they had to help. if buffy was not the slayer she still have to get a job, that life.
@@az21bob666 they literally never show anyone else talk about helping with the bills or worrying about the bills. Willow and Tara moved in when Buffy died and never moved out. They tell her that they spent her inheritance on the bills while she was dead. It's possible that their money came from student loans or potentially Willow's mom. But there is never any mention of them helping financial or even paying rent.

Buffy was the slayer sure, but she still made her own choices. She didn't ask for it, it was a burden she never wanted. Giles, xander and Willow would not be fighting demons if buffy had never been the slayer. Being responsible for saving the world, is not lucky.

Honestly, she didn't earn it; she earned Heaven and her friends unfairly burdened her with being the slayer again just to tell her that she's doing it wrong even though none of them has ever done it. They speak a lot about Buffy's relationships and how Xander is the heart and all that sh-t, but honestly, past S5, Buffy could use some new friends.

Random Chicken Nugget- I know! I swear my blood pressure rocketed I was so 😠 mad 😠 Especially at Zander. And don't even get me going about the green ball of energy, the whiney brat Dawn. I'm always telling my daughter (40 yrs) and my mom ( turning 87 this weekend) when they complain about a character in a show or a movie that the person they are going on and on about: they are acting what writers WROTE.. The fact it bothers us so much is a testament to the actors acting. But I've never felt such anger while watching a bunch of spoiled brats being acted out by actors 😳 LMAO!!! And Sarah's character certainly DID earn the right to make the calls. She had been doing it for years. And she was ALWAYS the strongest in the room.

Anya and Xander deserved each other so much, two huge a holes. Xander had a very similar speech in s2 after Buffy came back. I spent the whole show hoping he'd die.
Buffy was annointed. As an annoited being....we are blessed. But this glory comes with sacrifice. We can't be as selfish as others. We are burden by being a healer/protector of others. Its a blessing and a burden. The crown is definitely heavy. Her reward, lies in the Spirit realm. Like she said when she died and willow brought her back
I was so mad at everyone in that episode especially Anya because from 15-22 Buffy had died TWICE and had saved the world so many times and sometimes even from her own damn friends and had to go against her friends and family in order to save the world. She had to kill Angel, lost Riley, Got ripped out from Heaven, hell she lost her MOM to something that she couldn’t save her from she had to raise her little sister yes she had help but she also had to do this by herself because her friends and family could never understand the pain and the sacrifices she made in order to be a slayer she never asked to be a slayer, but because she was destined to be THE slayer she lost her childhood. She didn’t even get a lot of young adult experiences because she was the slayer. She was just a kid when this all started and I feel like no one understood that but Spike and Faith. Faith understood to a degree because she was a slayer as well. And Spike was the only one who saw what Buffy was going through. This episode I was pissed off at all of them for saying this to Buffy because they knew the struggles she went through and yet they had the nerve to say she didn’t earn it? I would say she definitely earned the spot to be THE SLAYER.
She never said the world from her friends. Xander stop willow. They all save the world they all was fighting evil. They all lost people Stop acting like only buffy has to go throw stuff
At the time I was watching this episode for the first time I disagreed with Buffy’s plan but knew all her friends were 100% out of line with everything they said. Anya was a total b* to Buffy. I know her character could have been written better later on but glad she won’t continue in the comics. The fact is Buffy’s plan to lead ALL the girls there was a bad plan and to do it again the same way would have yielded the same results. Buffy going in alone was always the best and smartest plan. Maybe she just needed the abandonment to jog her thinking or to have the courage to go in alone.
I know the died twice thing is in reference to the song, but technically she died thrice. The third time being when Warren shot her, and she flat lined on the operating table. Then Willow came in and took the bullet out cause she had other plans for it.😮
Anya was SO wrong here. She earned it. She WORKED for it. She didn't want it, but she did it regardless. Especially after she was dragged outta heaven.
Seems like Anya was still pissed off over Buffy running a sword through her the same way Buffy ran a sword through Angel. I mean sure it was given to her when she was activated as a Slayer since that's how it works, but she had proven time and again why she was the right person for the job. At this point of the show, hell yeah Buffy had earned it. In fact she more than earned it when she had given her life for Dawn the ungrateful brat. Out of everyone in that house, I lost respect for her the most. You think she would have come to her sister's aid after Buffy died for her.

She stopped the blob in the tub from being restored his powers, she stopped the mayor after he turned into a Giant Snake like creature from eating the entire graduating class and of course much of the rest of Sunnydale now I am sure the military could have done that eventually but how many deaths before they did. Once she got to college she would up stopping Adam and saving countless lives in the process. She fought a literal god and won she stood against a dark Willow but I can't give her credit for that one I have to give it to Xander and in the process she died twice and she is still standing. So how did she not earn it again the right to be the one making the big decisions again tell me who was more deserving of having earned it?

What’s sad when you watch the series from the first episode to the last, everyone she loved doubted her time and time again and made Buffy think she was either lucky for being the slayer or being selfish for being closed off. Yet someone who she was never close with “Cordeila” never did. Really shows you how everyone who was close to Buffy in the show really made her feel less than in crucial times when the character needed someone.

For example the episode where her mom dates a man who was a crazy robot! They all have her 💩 for her constantly trusting her gut instincts! In her of Defense. she didn't ask to be a slayer.That girl asked to be a vengeance demon and Willow asked to be a witch. So they can't throw that in buffy's face. Being born with a gift is way more special than getting it later in life.
I remember literally turning the channel during this scene. The anger was instant. It was so visceral, it shocked me. I had to give up on the TV and go play the PS2 for awhile to calm down 🤦🏽♀️.
This scene truly boils my blood 20 years later 😂 the audacity of a her “friends” and “family” to kick her out of her own fucking home will always be absolutely laughable. I think this episode was a great representation of what the stresses of war does to people, even when they're close and care for each other. Sprinkle in the (at times subtle) influence of The First and you've got a recipe for mutiny.
It doesn't justify what a jerk everyone was to Buffy on this one, but it does make sense that The First would really prey on her personal connections especially.
Anya was out of line and had no clue what she was talking about. What it means to be the slayer is sacrifice after sacrifice with no reward except that you are fortunate enough to live to see another day
I could understand where anya was coming from, but the point is anya and everyone there simply didn’t understand buffy. They were all too self envolved and worried for their own asses to remember the sacrifices buffy had made for them time and time again, no one appreciated her the way she deserved except for spike. When he came back from his mission with andrew and let them all have it was like a breath of fresh air, everything he said to them was just straight up facts. Finally someone had some god damn sense yk. They were all being terrible friends. He was the only one that truly saw her.
Buffy earned respect. She lost so much, including her life, to save the world and save lives. She didn't ask to be the Slayer, but she worked hard to do the right thing. What she didn't deserve was the way Anya spoke to her or the way her so-called friends and the Potentials treated her. When Sunnydale was destroyed, I wouldn't have blamed Buffy if she walked away from those around her. They betrayed her and kicked her from her own house.
They got mad because Zander finally got hurt but I'm like you all put yourselves on the line everyday what was they expecting...roses? And Buffy, yes she was born with strength but she most definitely earned it. I'm so glad that Buffy continues in books and she ends up with Spike.

That episode pissed me off because it felt like they all wanted Buffy to sacrifice everything. Hell, she did sacrifice everything. Died twice saving them, and it felt like in that moment, they just shat on her. They always turned to Buffy and then they turned on her, only to get bossed around by Faith.

This scene is a powerful reminder to never do your duties with the expectation of approval; not even from those you’ve helped (or died for). Follow your heart bc you know it’s right. That’s what Buffy always did, even when they forsaken her. This scene breaks my heart.

You all miss the point. Anya was referring to the fact that Buffy was gifted with the Slayer strength and other powers. She was referring to the fact that Buffy was simply given powers without having to do anything. She’s correct.

I always interpreted this moment as The First REALLY getting underneath everyone’s skin and getting them to skew heavy on the irrational paranoia. Still hard to watch. But Emma Caulfield freaking DELIVERS in this scene, oof.
The thing is, she literally didn’t want this. She never asked to do that, but she still did. All she wanted was to be a normal teenage girl, instead she had to spend all of her time fighting vampires, and saving the world.
I never watched the show but ive seen a lot of clips to know that this poor girl needs a break. I feel sorry for her. If i was there in her universe, i would give her a big hug and be the one friend that she can actually depend on and that wouldn't hurt her. Unlike the rest of her so called friends and family.
She may have been handed the power of the slayer but she fought tooth and nail to protect everyone as best to her ability going though hell and back not just once putting the needs and safety of others before herself even if it risked her life and she gave so many people a second chance when others would not. Buffy deserved so much better in this episode and Spike was the only one who stood up for her and couldnt believe the way they were treating her. Buffy did earn it more than anyone in that room and sorry Anya but Buffy is better than you.
Yes the power (strength and speed) was given to her but she had to train to be a good fighter and she worked hard to be who she is. It didn’t come naturally.

The whole point of this was to sow doubt in Buffy that she wasn't the best option to save everyone and to highlight the point that ultimately Buffy is on a different level. And the friend's belief throughout the show that they were necessary. It was touched on in Restless, but as the First Slayer said, 'NO... FRIENDS'. Anya was really the only who would/could have said this. Xander and Willow just couldn't. It was designed to create conflict.

That episode at the end of I think season 6 when she jumped off the tower to save Dawn into the portal and died it ended that way because the show was supposed to be basically over but it got sold to a different network so they found a way to resurrect her out of the ground a year later
I feel like this is one of the very very few scenes buffy put in there just to progress the story without thinking it through. Nobody’s character made sense in this other than spike and buffy and tbf anya, felt like none of them knew buffy at all for the previous 7 seasons 😂
This entire mini-arc of the team turning on Buffy at the very end pissed me off so. Much. Like, how ungrateful can you be? She has literally died for you all 3 TIMES in seven years! Been to hell, sacrificed love, tried to deaden herself, all to protect the people she loves and cares about, not to mention the world. She maybe didn’t earn being a Slayer, but she damn well earned the trust and respect of everybody in that house. And Anya, well… she maybe for what she earned.
Anya says she didn’t earn it, it was given to her, so that makes her luckier than the rest of us. But Anya was wrong, Buffy wasn’t luckier, she was burdened with those gifts. As for earning it, she did many times over. I never saw the Scooby gang in the same way again after that, but I saw Spike in a new light after that.
I never liked this moment out of all the things she has done for all of them and even died twice.. sacrificed the love of her life... lost her mom and had to look after Dawn and protect her from Glory
And I just wanted to say she is right in episodes, in the sense where she says she’d rather be doing the regular things other people do like school or shopping rather than carry the burdens and walk the pain and suffering she did. I’m glad she makes mistakes sometimes it makes her human. Her gift is her curse. But she is brave and tries to do the right thing but she is only a human female.
The absolute BS that they fed her here, actually did her a favor. Spike's speech did her a favor. It all reminded her that she didn't earn it, she chose it. She chose to be The Slayer. She chose to fight. She chose to die (a couple times). Everyone else did it because they didn't choose, they just didn't want to die. They figured hiding behind Buffy will accomplish that. Buffy could have easily walked away from it all, many times. Hell, even Faith walked away from it. Buffy chose to fight, she chose to stay and then she chose to step back and let all the other girls out who are Slayers realize that they're not alone. They are not the only chosen one, they are The Chosen Ones.
Even without her, saving the world and all of their asses constantly, there’s literally an episode in season 3 for her birthday proving that she doesn’t need her powers, and that she is better than them😂😂😂

For those who saying "she left them no choice".... First of all, wtf? Did she tied whole bunch of them to radiator or something? Locked them in a basement? Don't want her leadership? Leave. It's that simple. Second, did people have selective amnesia, or something? She warned them, she told them, "play time is over, we going to war, from now on we becoming an army". Do people have even a faint idea of what "army" means? She was very considered, patient and very open minded, she welcomed an input fron them, she told that she's ready to discuss nuances and strategy as a whole. And what she gets in return? Whe worst kind of betrayal, hypocrisy, and awfulness. She warned them about what is going to happen, and she gave them explicit choice "everyone who doesn't agree, leave now," and what did they did? They clapped and cheered and STAYED. Oh, and just to be petty, SHE WAS RIGHT. She made a solid plan, she executed that plan (without any help, which proofs that, all that nerd herd is just a bunch of useless brats) and saved their toxic arses from consequences of their own stupidity and arrogance. And nobody even apologized. Despicable, but not surprising. This sums up the whole show. Buffy gets humiliated and betrayed by her "friends" and/or "family", then danger comes, Buffy fights, suffer and makes sacrifices, saves everyone, and in return gets no apology and no gratitude. Rinse and repeat.
I hated everybody in this episode apart from buffy and spike, it was literally her job to protect people and I don't think she wanted to come off as bossy I think just wanted to always put people first

I was so mad at everyone in that episode especially Anya because from 15-22 Buffy had died TWICE and had saved the world so many times and sometimes even from her own damn friends and had to go against her friends and family in order to save the world. She had to kill Angel, lost Riley, Got ripped out from Heaven, hell she lost her MOM to something that she couldn’t save her from she had to raise her little sister yes she had help but she also had to do this by herself because her friends and family could never understand the pain and the sacrifices she made in order to be a slayer she never asked to be a slayer, but because she was destined to be THE slayer she lost her childhood. She didn’t even get a lot of young adult experiences because she was the slayer. She was just a kid when this all started and I feel like no one understood that but Spike and Faith. Faith understood to a degree because she was a slayer as well. And Spike was the only one who saw what Buffy was going through. This episode I was pissed off at all of them for saying this to Buffy because they knew the struggles she went through and yet they had the nerve to say she didn’t earn it? I would say she definitely earned the spot to be THE SLAYER.

At the time I was watching this episode for the first time I disagreed with Buffy’s plan but knew all her friends were 100% out of line with everything they said. Anya was a total b* to Buffy. I know her character could have been written better later on but glad she won’t continue in the comics.
The fact is Buffy’s plan to lead ALL the girls there was a bad plan and to do it again the same way would have yielded the same results. Buffy going in alone was always the best and smartest plan. Maybe she just needed the abandonment to jog her thinking or to have the courage to go in alone.

What’s sad when you watch the series from the first episode to the last, everyone she loved doubted her time and time again and made Buffy think she was either lucky for being the slayer or being selfish for being closed off. Yet someone who she was never close with “Cordeila” never did. Really shows you how everyone who was close to Buffy in the show really made her feel less than in crucial times when the character needed someone.

I think this episode was a great representation of what the stresses of war does to people, even when they're close and care for each other. Sprinkle in the (at times subtle) influence of The First and you've got a recipe for mutiny.
It doesn't justify what a jerk everyone was to Buffy on this one, but it does make sense that The First would really prey on her personal connections especially.

Anya was mad wrong for saying this…she said this out of fear/anger. I wish we had more Buffy/anya scenes. There was always a weird disconnect between the characters. And would have been so neat to watch both actors share a scene

Oh she did not. She did it bc she truly believed that Buffy was in a "hell dimension like Angel". Was she hooked on power and constantly trying to become a better Wiccan? Sure. But let's not misrepresent what she was as though she started out rubbing her hands together in some sort of Machiavellian plot to resurrect Buffy for a popularity contest. The Buffy-bot was saying things like "That'll put marzipan in your pie plate." My favorite quote is: "All things truly wicked start from innocence." by Ernest Hemingway. The whole POINT of Willow's sn 6 arc was to demonstrate that addicts don't DECIDE to become addicts one day. It all started from a misguided choice that could have been cleared up with a chat with Giles or the show staying at the WB, lol ;)

I always interpreted this moment as The First REALLY getting underneath everyone’s skin and getting them to skew heavy on the irrational paranoia. Still hard to watch. But Emma Caulfield freaking DELIVERS in this scene, oof.

The thing is, she literally didn’t want this. She never asked to do that, but she still did. All she wanted was to be a normal teenage girl, instead she had to spend all of her time fighting vampires, and saving the world.

I never watched the show but ive seen a lot of clips to know that this poor girl needs a break. I feel sorry for her. If i was there in her universe, i would give her a big hug and be the one friend that she can actually depend on and that wouldn't hurt her. Unlike the rest of her so called friends and family.

She may have been handed the power of the slayer but she fought tooth and nail to protect everyone as best to her ability going though hell and back not just once putting the needs and safety of others before herself even if it risked her life and she gave so many people a second chance when others would not. Buffy deserved so much better in this episode and Spike was the only one who stood up for her and couldnt believe the way they were treating her. Buffy did earn it more than anyone in that room and sorry Anya but Buffy is better than you.
Yes the power (strength and speed) was given to her but she had to train to be a good fighter and she worked hard to be who she is. It didn’t come naturally.

The whole point of this was to sow doubt in Buffy that she wasn't the best option to save everyone and to highlight the point that ultimately Buffy is on a different level. And the friend's belief throughout the show that they were necessary. It was touched on in Restless, but as the First Slayer said, 'NO... FRIENDS'. Anya was really the only who would/could have said this. Xander and Willow just couldn't. It was designed to create conflict.
"It was handed to you..... that just makes you LUCKIER than us....." Considering that all she's ever wanted to be was a NORMAL girl and NOT the Slayer, and how much she's had to sacrifice for that calling/burden..... no, that does NOT make her luckier than you, Anya....... or anyone. 😢💔
That episode at the end of I think season 6 when she jumped off the tower to save Dawn into the portal and died it ended that way because the show was supposed to be basically over but it got sold to a different network so they found a way to resurrect her out of the ground a year later

I feel like this is one of the very very few scenes buffy put in there just to progress the story without thinking it through. Nobody’s character made sense in this other than spike and buffy and tbf anya, felt like none of them knew buffy at all for the previous 7 seasons 😂
This entire mini-arc of the team turning on Buffy at the very end pissed me off so. Much. Like, how ungrateful can you be? She has literally died for you all 3 TIMES in seven years! Been to hell, sacrificed love, tried to deaden herself, all to protect the people she loves and cares about, not to mention the world. She maybe didn’t earn being a Slayer, but she damn well earned the trust and respect of everybody in that house. And Anya, well… she maybe for what she earned.
And they protect Buffy and saved life many times. Buffy did not sacrifice more then her friends did
Anya says she didn’t earn it, it was given to her, so that makes her luckier than the rest of us. But Anya was wrong, Buffy wasn’t luckier, she was burdened with those gifts. As for earning it, she did many times over. I never saw the Scooby gang in the same way again after that, but I saw Spike in a new light after that.

I never liked this moment out of all the things she has done for all of them and even died twice.. sacrificed the love of her life... lost her mom and had to look after Dawn and protect her from Glory
So. They all risk there life for her. They all lost people.
She earns it every day by saving the world… if that isn’t ‘working for it’ I don’t know what is. 😅
And I just wanted to say she is right in episodes, in the sense where she says she’d rather be doing the regular things other people do like school or shopping rather than carry the burdens and walk the pain and suffering she did.
I’m glad she makes mistakes sometimes it makes her human.
Her gift is her curse.
But she is brave and tries to do the right thing but she is only a human female.
The absolute BS that they fed her here, actually did her a favor. Spike's speech did her a favor. It all reminded her that she didn't earn it, she chose it. She chose to be The Slayer. She chose to fight. She chose to die (a couple times). Everyone else did it because they didn't choose, they just didn't want to die. They figured hiding behind Buffy will accomplish that. Buffy could have easily walked away from it all, many times. Hell, even Faith walked away from it. Buffy chose to fight, she chose to stay and then she chose to step back and let all the other girls out who are Slayers realize that they're not alone. They are not the only chosen one, they are The Chosen Ones.
Even without her, saving the world and all of their asses constantly, there’s literally an episode in season 3 for her birthday proving that she doesn’t need her powers, and that she is better than them😂😂😂

What Anya said was low, Buffy sacrificed everything for them and she’s treated like garbage especially Dawn. She just stood there let them kick her while she was down.

For those who saying "she left them no choice"....
First of all, wtf? Did she tied whole bunch of them to radiator or something? Locked them in a basement? Don't want her leadership? Leave. It's that simple.
Second, did people have selective amnesia, or something? She warned them, she told them, "play time is over, we going to war, from now on we becoming an army". Do people have even a faint idea of what "army" means? She was very considered, patient and very open minded, she welcomed an input fron them, she told that she's ready to discuss nuances and strategy as a whole. And what she gets in return? Whe worst kind of betrayal, hypocrisy, and awfulness.
She warned them about what is going to happen, and she gave them explicit choice "everyone who doesn't agree, leave now," and what did they did? They clapped and cheered and STAYED.
Oh, and just to be petty, SHE WAS RIGHT. She made a solid plan, she executed that plan (without any help, which proofs that, all that nerd herd is just a bunch of useless brats) and saved their toxic arses from consequences of their own stupidity and arrogance. And nobody even apologized. Despicable, but not surprising.
This sums up the whole show. Buffy gets humiliated and betrayed by her "friends" and/or "family", then danger comes, Buffy fights, suffer and makes sacrifices, saves everyone, and in return gets no apology and no gratitude. Rinse and repeat.
