Good work as always, I do the same type of decoder install, but I use the SoundTraxx 810113 16X35mm speaker as it has a bigger magnet. Does produce a deeper bass. BTW: get some new drill bits before you really hurt yourself, that bit should have drilled through with ease. WCR
@mokanlines Bc you want the speaker to push/vibrate the air in front of the speaker, not the air behind it which would create unwanted vibration and reverberation.
thank's for the tips on how to install sound decoder..so,the sound decoder already a DCC decoder into this panel..for the speaker,it look great with the small box to make a good sound...simple question,do the sound already recorded in the chip? I need it for a Atlas CP Rail FP7,Should I use EMD 567D sound?
When you attached the wires to the speaker, did you have to tin the speaker wire first, or did you just use the solder that was already on the speaker?
If you have time I am new and trying to weather but I don't know what supply's to use. I have seen previous videos but if you still use the same techniques can u just tell me because i watched the whole corning weathering series.
Quick question, did you mount the speaker on the rear of the locomotive and with that small speaker can you get the shell all the way back on with it in the back verses the front?
Would you recommend speaker facing up in the locomotive or facing down? Ive done it both ways and am considering using two speakers per locomotive. I use the TDS Super sonic minis
I would like to buy two or three of those speakers to play music on my funfair model but I've not got a clue where to buy them or use the decoder Could u help point me where to buy them or what there called please
Lol yes I usually have some that work fine. It was late at night, i didn't have any correct ones at the time, and I didn't feel like waiting so I used one that was dull and not exactly the right size... bad idea... haha thanks for watching!
I mean I guess it will work either way but if you notice the speakers that come already assembled... they go with the speaker facing into the Baffle. :-)
A sound decoder has the DCC embedded so you don't need a separate decoder. Beware that a sound decoder is significantly more expensive than a DCC decoder, $100-$135 for a sound decoder versus $15-$25 for a DCC decoder. You will also need to purchase a speaker (or 2) as the sound decoders do not come with them.
Is it a sound decoder or is it a dcc decoder with sound capabilities and why do all the sound decoders at train shows always sound so high-pitch compared to the real thing?
It is a DCC sound and motor decoder. Biggest limitation and reason for somewhat tinny sound is the size of the speakers. If the body of the locomotive would fit a 10" speaker, the bass that the decoder reproduces would surprise you.
@NSBNSFsuperfan WOW! OMG! YOUR BEING SOOOO NICE ON THIS VIDEO!!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU BEING SO RUDE AND DISRESPECTFUL WHEN COMMENTING ON RUclips VIDEOS?
I sure am glad you're making this videos Josh. I have no clue as to wire up decoders but these sure do help thanks a bunch man.
Nice video and how to series. I like to use chaulk to seal the enclosure as its easy to open up if you ever had to and easy to see that its sealed.
Thanks for posting this, I have always wondered how to install the speaker on a sound loco.
Very nice how to video! It sounds great!
Great Video!! Very descriptive and well explained! Im going to do this to one of my models now, thanks to your instruction. Thank you!
Thanks Josh - very neat work.
Does it matter what holes you solder the speaker into? Or can you solder it into any one of them

Thanks for the post. I always thought that speakers push air, why does it need to be air-tight?
@mokanlines Bc you want the speaker to push/vibrate the air in front of the speaker, not the air behind it which would create unwanted vibration and reverberation.
