I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope you find these insights very insights very helpful and you remain happy.
Seneca was a stoic philosopher and rhetorician. He’s one of the first stoics for which there are considerable literary remains for us to study. He believed that happiness is an internal affair and wrote a book specifically on happiness called “De Vita Beata” which explains the path to happiness within the context of Stoic philosophy.
Stoicism is a school of Hellenistic philosophy founded by Zeno of Citium in Athens in the early 3rd century BC. Even though it is over 2000 years old, more and more people are discovering how Stoicism is not only relevant to modern times, but can be applied in very simple, yet strong ways.

If only we could get everyone to listen and accept these Philosophies, Accept what happens for if it already happened you can not do anyhthing about it , best learn and move on. Stoicism has helped me in many ways.
Philosophies for Life *
Just as I’ve lost the will to live, suffering severe depression and suicidal thoughts as I got scammed and nothing left, I came across this video. Don’t know if it’s a sign from ‘unknown powers’ but I am telling myself: I will pick up my shattered self piece by piece, day by day, week by week, month by month and start all over again......
Do that, and take good care of yourself.
If you have your health, you have a lot especially in these times we're living in. You can always begin again, but the scammer has some bad karma coming down the line. Detach from what happened and trust that God will take you where you need to go. Use common sense but trust your intuition.
Modern life is very stressful, it is just we are in this bubble that we don't recognize the mess we are in. Stoicism really helps to be more happy. Say you are working all week long, you take a break in country side, you will feel great happiness, what if you work there? I guess life would be happier. Cities took over ourselves
Your experience will enable you to help others.
Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others you may become vain and bitter;
For always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble, it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals and everywhere life is full of heroisms.
Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
Do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born out of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
You have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

I wish they taught this as an introductory course at all schools and colleges.
"How to Be Happy in a Chaotic World."
I would have taken that course.
You are a powerful being having a human experience my friend. You came to experience this world to help elevate your soul as u journey towards becoming a master teacher for younger and lost souls out in the Universe. You are on a journey. Enjoy every moment good and bad.....its all the same the dif is the amount of energy you commit to each experience. Love and light my friend.
They don't have philosophy there? Wow. Stoicism has been around awhile. Or do you mean 'how to be happy', with selected exerpts from stocism as here? That was your parents job. Always used to be anyway until recently.
@@parrotshootist3004
They absolutely have/had philosophy courses. The trouble was, you have a "major" and only certain classes count towards that major and if you decided to take a major that lead to a job outside of college, one did not take philosophy or literature, or religions, or history; one took science, math, and political science (for the easy A).
How deep into philosophy would one have to go to get to such gems? 200? 300?
@@williamcullen8756 Fair enough point. I guess, given you were raised in the school system instead of with education. If you were, you would have read much of this stuff before you were 10. Classical Liberal Education is vastly different from the system you are in. Which is Schooling and its most important function is socialisation.
You would have deduced a lot of this your self from classes on Logic. If not been reading it perhaps to note their Rhetoric and Gramma.
@@parrotshootist3004
It is even worse than you imagine. When I was a child, my family was poor. In high school, I was told that I could not take advanced classes because I was poor and those classes were for the kids going to college. They actually said that to my face. That was in the late 1960s early 1970s. It is much different now.
In high school, my senior year I had: shop math, machine shop, print shop, wood shop, and mechanical drawing (which was a lot of fun). The shop math teacher just skipped me when asking the class questions on the homework because he knew the class was to easy for me.
It took an entire year of remedial coursework to get my math and science skill to the college level after high school.

That's the problem looking for happiness - that's not life - life comes with its ups and downs - we must learn how to handle these things
Trying to find happiness leads to religions like Christianity promising the easy good life in the sky - Heaven is the biggest and longest running Ponzi-scheme
@@ramaraksha01 Perhaps many were conditioned to expect to arrive at happiness. Perhaps a future happiness was a promise for outgrowing childish selfishness. It is an open question as to whether something as ill defined as 'Christianity' promises happiness, and depends a great deal on the time and place. Its uses and abuses are wide ranging. Therefore, I take exception to you characterizing it in the way you have. Chesterton Quotes: Christianity has not been tried and found wanting; it has been found difficult and not tried.
I agree with your opinion that looking for happiness is problematic. I think it is more likely a by product of how one lives one's life.

@Janice Brown thank you 🙏
This is ancient wisdom, and it is just as relevant today as it was when it was first promulgated!
In October of 2020 I almost died of Coronavirus. At one point I just accepted my situation. I'd be a liar if I said I wasn't in distress, but that passed. Now that I recovered I have a new outlook on my life in general. Every morning I open my eyes & take a deep breath & smile.
That's wild. Glad you're still around tho. Sending positive vibes your way
Have to give it to you, kind Sir(s), the team behind this channel.
Everyday when I am on the road to work, or home, or grocery shopping in general, this is the channel that’s on my playlist.
The countless mornings made, the rides made pleasant, the waves with smiles I did to fellow drivers even in case of any mistakes or curse-able situations they made, have proved a running comment on these videos.
“Why be angry, or sad, or worried when you can’t control the situation? Especially when stuck in the morning traffic, you could either make your day go bad with complaints of being stuck and late, or you can keep calm and be at peace by listening to audios like this.”
The countless life lessons that I have reflected upon in different situations where I would’ve normally reacted poorly, and actually didn’t has made made me a more saner, and more satisfied person.
And my overall emotion of being content with what I have, thankfully, has risen over the last few months as well.
Have to give full credit to Stoicism, and particularly this channel. Thank you so much for making content like this, and I would wholeheartedly wait and support for more awesome content like this for time to come.
(I do want to write more, but this comment section won’t be enough.)
Take care.
:)
I watch these videos to flex on my philosophy teacher.
❤️❤️ THIS CONTENT!! SENECA TELLS US THAT UNCONDITIONAL LOVE ❤️ AND KINDNESS IS THE TRUE HAPPINESS OF LIFE. 🙏
We are not here to only enjoy life. We are here to experience it. Life itself has its swing between negative and positive vibes. Enjoy while swinging through positive moments and learn from it through your journey on the negative side. Don't expect something which doesn't exist. Life has never been a full joy 24/7 for anyone and will never be.
People say "shit happens". I say 'Life happens'. Because Life is Shit. But it's the only life we have, and we should make the best of it.
Always be positive.
Always being positive is not the same as always being happy.
Yoga, Qigong, and Taichi are all great recommendations.

I really value these videos. They have enlightened my mind in addition to prayer.
I need the screen as a poster on my wall. Something about the line 'how to be happy - stoicism' and this weird picture of a slightly disheveled Roman holding scrolls just lifts me up every time.: 'if he can find acceptance with whatever happens , then so can I' lol.
This is great wisdom, thank you! I agree we need more of this (the wisdom philosophies) taught in schools.

Live with Arete......That one way of being or attitude I think would lead naturally to all the others....It deserves to be first on the list.
If only more people had have watched this video when it came out and took note of number 6. I am just about to start diligently studying Seneca. Out of all the stoics, he is the one I immediately resonated with. All the others are obviously great as well. But, there's something about Seneca and the outlook he had on life.
Thank you for sharing, great video!
Excellent video.
So much wisdom! What a boss 😎
This is great I've been really trying to get rid of my anger and find virtue
It's difficult at times. I often have the same struggle. I'm sure even Seneca got angry at times. But I think we often make decisions or take reactions to things while in anger that harm us far more than they help us. Even stewing on the things that make us angry or like a slow drip of poison that we keep giving to ourselves. It's not hurting the things that were angry at but it sure is hurting us. I see this one as dovetailing into the part about letting go of what we can't change. If the thing that makes us angry can spur us to a decisive action for the better, then make the movement and move on. But if the action based on that anger only harms Us in the long run, then better to take a breath and let It go. Just my thoughts, on something I'm still struggling with myself..
Sounds like echart Tolle and Buddhism combined that said it was well worth listening to especially learn how to find meaning and purpose in life. I think that might be the lifetime endeavour
This is a gift.
BEAUTIFULLY EXPLAINED AND VERY VERY GREAT 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👌
I studied a lot in engineering and mathematics, got lost several times, lived all my youth without any female attachment except my mother of course. Went through tough philosophies and existential questions. The only thing that helped me through these was being humble, and evolve step by step, grounded, now I'm gained my integrity and happiness.
A Ben man I am living that exact thing right now. Even the engineering. I feel like my life is wasting away, and I don’t even really have a passion for engineering now. If you have any advice for me please let me know. I’m dead inside man
@@nick23900 sure! my pass time that is helping me a lot, I would like to share with you: writing small apps, even stupid ones, more importantly, I write technological specifications, and ideas, not a work of a genius, far from that, the most entertaining part is to get a notification from a random stranger willing to help, I am working on Github, I don't know your field but try to find your internet niche, the difference between this and just fooling around RUclips and Facebook all time, is that you are being productive, and not 100% consumer, doing this I assume needs some free time, so if you are working already full time, it is hard to get outside your bubble, find a partial time job or no contractual job if you are at ease financially; This is about life as an engineer. otherwise adopt your healthy habit, no need for 100% shifts like someone sleeping for years and going to the gym lifting weights, it doesn't help and can be nonconstructive or even destructive.
@@nick23900 for the healthy life routine, a healthy diet is a MUST! along with enough sleeping, a nap is very healthy for mental health, not a long nap just 20-30 minutes. For me, I take a beer each day at 11am, knowing I am a morning bird, I take breakfast, and go directly outside to some park. as you can see I quit my job, and far from being financially at ease, but hopefully I am trying to invest time into some open source projects and find an opportunity. stay in contact with your family in any case. even just texting.
@@nick23900 let me know if this makes sense or not .. and forgive my poor English :D Good luck !
@@nick23900 another thing that seems important to me: Music ! I was a heavy listener, music can be very destructive if you are moody and going through bad times, be careful of what you listen avoid hardcore music, it is better to listen to what someone listened before with his parents going to the beach in summer. :)

Rule #1 Rule in learning "How to be Happy" - Be skeptical of any video that offers advice on "How to be Happy," especialing one lasting less than 20 minutes (including built-in commercials) that has a narrator with an upper-class British Accent - a known marketing device which incurs a beief in the viewer that "This guy sounds like he knows what he is talking about."

Staying single and not getting married would be a big head start to happiness.
Just saying.
Marrying the right person makes you happy. Unfortunately, you've only got a fifty fifty chance of getting it right.
@@ericabassi7728 Far less than 50/50. In this day and age it is wise to stay single until you spend enough time to know this is the right person to partner with.
@@ericabassi7728 50/50 Chance of marrying the right person?
I appreciate your optimism but beg to differ.
Being with another human being makes things super complicated especially for the fact that we even don't know who we truly are (or trying to avoid acknowledging it). Nevertheless I felt miserable with my first marriage. And I can tell you my second marriage also has its ups and downs. But my daughter, man I wish anyone of you who is reading this can experience having their own child because noone can tell you with words how it truly feels. I hope you get there and remember this moment. I wish you strength through your experience.
@@denizorsel1029 All very nice...but u will need to let your child go when they are older...say 16...or close to that.It is not as easy as it sounds. Doable and necessary. But important to add that it's not necessary to have children. The world is already overpopulated, thank you. Also a lot of people wants children as they see them as an extension of themselves. Get over yourself. They are plenty of people whom have no kids, and whom are awesome human being ! ;)
Anger, originates in the fight or flight response from a time of survival or perish,it is one of the easiest emotions to redirect because there is no reasoning behind it only instinct!

On “anger” as a binary emotion that allows us to confrontation and aggression - I agree that it interferes with problem-solving, but the opposite, “fear” allows us to flee which I think, is not a problem-solving technique.
I seem to have trouble getting any of this to work when literally no one else I interact with on a daily basis practices these techniques (kindness, generosity, being present, not acting in anger).
Is it problémát to hate get gifts, but lobve to give it?
I agree with everything in the stoic life there is much wisdom here. But I disagree with the “no anger” part because it IS natural but instead of getting rid of it or any other emotion for that matter we should control it as well as any other emotion because there is a time and place for anything and anger can be an IMMENSELY powerful tool if used properly. Same with any other emotions.
Read "The choice of Hercules" by Prodicus
There are 2 types of Happiness - one is Given, the other Earned
Heaven is Given so it falls in the former type - free food & drink, shelter, nothing to do, protected, someone to take care of you - the happiness that we had as Children
Heaven is the idea that we can run back to Childhood - keep Adulthood and its accompanying problems away, don't have to grow up, don't have to face life
The 2nd type of Happiness is the Earned one - the joy of solving a problem, pitching a no-hitter, winning the gold medal, making yourself a success by sheer hard work and determination
The latter is Reincarnation
Sadly many people fall for the former - it IS the easier way - just find a rich Sugar Daddy and you get all that - easy breezy
The latter kind of happiness is obviously very hard and not easily obtained
But nothing comes without a cost
Those who beg and grovel their way to the easy good life are mocked as scum, sponges laughed at behind their backs
Those who think they are bound for Heaven are reborn as Trees or Dogs - they will get what they want - the easy life of nothing to do, joy & happiness but at a price, of course

Happy or not ...i will carry it out .
re anger, true stories
God inspired words Acts 20:35: “There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving.” Meaning: Heartfelt generosity brings happiness. 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Happiness comes from perfect nutrition with no BS cheat days. Literally good feelings arise from nowhere just as the bad ones do…except the good replaces the bad. You feel like a kid again. You’ll feel like Bender…and then you won’t need your crutch called philosophy.
There's a very fine, almost invisible line within stoicism, that makes this philosophy indistinguishable from apathetic self deception. It gives selective denial and ambivalence a prettier sounding moniker, and removes passion from the equation. If you're afraid of feeling any type of uncomfortable feeling, and want an excuse to repress those feelings no matter their effect on your mental health, or that of those external to you, then Stoicism is the lukewarm grey area of dissasoction you've been looking for. 😀Stoicism, the state that one "lives" in when they aren't willing to pay the inconvenient and necessary tax to setup home base in the actual world of authenticity. This "tax" is paid by feeling and living through the sometimes uncomfortable situations and experiences one must work through and feel to truly thrive.
But I suppose "minimizing/denial-city" doesn't have quite the caché or ring to it that "Stoicism" does.
To put it another way, it's kinda like........
Beverly Hills Adjacent.
"It's ALMOST like living in Beverly Hills!" but not quite....
LOL 😆
"through the sometimes uncomfortable situations and experiences".... Uncomfortable? Brother you have yet to experience hell on earth. And "thriving" is just another carrot on the stick. Just like "happiness".
Actual world of authenticity? Now there's an oxymoron.
Funny you mention BH! I used to live there! Beverly Hills 90211 mind you, not 90210, speaking of adjacent ! 😂 wanting to be close to "the wealthy, famous and privileged. Well my ex wife anyways. I couldn't care less.
