    First Duster 340 I ever drove was a shipmate's green 1970 model. I feel in love but had to wait two years as I was paying on another car. My '72 never disappointed me.

    I met Jim at a car show today in NJ Memorial weekend. I immediately recognized the Duster from the episode of GYC. The Duster is magnificent, and Jim is an awesome guy too.
    His story about his original car, and the "Duster in the wind" car is so cool 😎
    Great job GYC 👏 👍

    What I like about great older car restores (especially 60s to '72) is the tradition. These guys keep tradition alive; the honor given to the evolution of automobile history for our times, and the people who gave their best to design and create them.
    For me, not a mechanic or a racer, that 72 Duster would be just close enough to be my cup of tea today. I'll be 72 next year.

    The duster story choked me up a bit because my dad had a '72 duster 340 when I was a kid. I remember riding around in it as a youngster and the horn cracked me up (aoooga). It is my dream to have a '72 duster like my dad had. Congrats to him on his new duster

  • @mitchp350
    @mitchp350 3 года назад

    First let me say I have just found this channel and I love Mopar's.
    I owned a 70 Duster with a slant six. When the timing chain broke and took out that engine, we transplanted a 360 4 speed in it.
    I still have night mares remembering taking a 340 Duster's 4 speed(the engine was toast) Took the rally speedo, and K member for 360, and pushed over a bank at the dump. Now remember this 340 car was probably better than my old duster, I was 17 and stupid. The 360 I got out of a Coronet. In the end I drove the car maybe 5 miles and sold it to a guy for parts.
    Now for the GTX with the serial # mistake on the 440. Earlier the guy that bought the car bought it knowing that the engine was not numbers matching. Yes, I know it is entirely the wrong code for that engine, but it does have the correct serial # for the car, so I would say it was restamped for that car, and the one that did it did not know how.

    My mom had a Plymouth duster bany blue with a white stripe even had a fold down rear seat and space where it had access directly into the trunk, we were poor so my mom would have us hide in that space where the rear set folded to go to the drive in movie theater in Whitestone theater in the Bronx that car even took some bullet holes guy got killed right next to the car water would leak into the bullet holes. We use to edge mont to do burn outs 😂😂 this was just part of the environment i grew up on. But the show brought bsck memories of the car it was cool 😎

    Awesome engine info. Man watching someone pull out a manufacturers calendar or code book was Kool bro. The 383 mistake would be awesome to get full story at some point. Nowing last 8 match is great. But finding out why and who switched what should not be a crime. By all means it was stamped with matching 8 on match engine and trans when vin# was place on car. Wonder if the original superbee WH23 body ever got built with a different engine which left that 383 on the block for install. Is there any way to find out with that code book/ calendar.

    We think our 70 Duster in that funky green black stripe 340 looks almost as good as the day we got it in 1976 , after a good buff it still shines like new, original is only once..? We kept the original tranny put it in a box , replaced it with a Muncie 4 speed , new clutch and a set of tuned headers , everything else is original except the windshield its new on our 70 340 duel points Plymouth Duster.

      @mitchp350 Год назад

      If you look at 40:06 - 40:10 there are pics of his original, and it had the longer 72 tail lights, and this grill.
      I thought the grill was a 71 only, but starting to think other wise. Maybe it is an earlier build 72, and they were using up what was left of the left over grills from 71.. Also think all 340 cars came standard with the rally dash (round tack-round speedo) Maybe Tony would know for sure.
