sol's RNG is the resoult of years of developers trying to minimize player effort to inject dopamine into their brain to keep them playing so much that it just got to a point where the only effort needed is to keep your computer on and not play at all
its like how we had good food, an now companies are putting chemicals in it (mcdonalds, etc.) just because of profits, with no regard for our health - we've gone too far into the dopamine cycle

I played it. It sucks, but as someone with mental illness (which can make you more predisposed to addiction), I ended up spending way too many hours despite KNOWING all I was doing was pressing a button for rare coloured text that was worthless. It’s quite insidious
I’m almost an adult now, so imagining a neurodivergent child who doesn’t know any better finding this ‘game’ is an honestly horrifying thought, as it could alter their brain development to become more used to gambling

When I saw the game, and how many people were playing it, I definitely thought it would have been a very good game. Then I actually joined, and my excitement very quickly turned to disgust

it's not even gambling, you don't lose anything besides time, no in game cash or anything, so you're just doing nothing
Usually with lootbox type games, you need to put effort in before you can attempt a roll. This is to keep the player in the game, and when they get something rare, they're incentivized to keep going because it feels good to get a reward for your efforts; aka delayed gratification. To skip the effort and get instant gratification, a player will be required to pay for some kind of currency. Usually these games plan on new players to get hooked through the addicting gambling mechanics, but at one point get impatient or unsatisfied with the amount they are able to gamble in a given time and so they spend money.
A game like sol's rng actually wouldn't be something considered viable for that reason: it requires no effort, it has barely any monetization and through the infinite amount of rolls you can do without putting in any effort, you would expect people to get bored of it rather quickly. Instead, the reason as to why it works is for 3 reasons: 1. The fact that Roblox has premium payouts. 2. It replaces the effort one would have to put in order to gamble with insanely rare drops, which still gives one a sense of delayed gratification, while the player is at the same time constantly receiving instant gratification from being able to roll every second (which makes it so addicting). 3. Since roblox is well.. roblox and its community is filled with 12 year olds who attribute value to how they look, the rarer an item is the more value it is given by the players, which makes players want them more. I could go on but this comment is long enough.
Although the game gets a lot of hate, I do have to say I'm impressed how the devs were able to create a gacha like game that is inherently different from its predecessors in how it manages to keep players engaged. Sol's rng from the perspective of a game developer is very bland, but from a business perspective it's brilliant.
I actually had a theory that the game wasn’t completely RNG, like clash royale chest cycle. I cut it out of the video, but apparently others have made similar takes.

there are reasons why casinos are regulated and most importantly, restrict children from entering them
the fact that some game developers will exploit the psychology of players and foster gambling addictions to make a profit from an audience made up of mainly children is just frankly evil
there really needs to be more regulation when it comes to video games that use gambling or gambling adjacent methods to monetize

The bar goes literally the other way around. You have to duck under the bar to get popular most of the time. Every good game I have seen on the frontpage I can count on one hand
The bar is reversed for roblox. Shit games get popular because they are easy and need no skill along with using predatory techniques to keep playing, while games with effort are usually left in the dust because there are no shiny pets or super ultra golden explosive miniguns and gamepasses like that to abuse.
The average player on roblox has little to no standards when it comes to playing a game. They just play one, if they get dopamine in the first 5 minutes they keep going, if not, they leave the game permanently. Most good games need attention span to get to the better parts, while games like sol's rng can give out dopamine and gratification just about instantly.
Not to mention Roblox's algorithms are designed to put games that don't make as much money into the dirt, you have to not put in effort to make it on the front page

(I don't play this "game", i just looked it up to see how predatory the monetization practices are)
I think what people don't realize how massive of a time sink sols can be, a lor of my friends would tell me "hey art, you should play a different game you've been on sols for hours" and admittedly i have 19 days of playtime and to that i always say "what do you mean? im always doing something else when im on here" but they're not wrong either, i could be spending my time doing better things, aside from fueling bad habits sols can really be a procrastinator's best friend

as a person who wants to become a roblox developer, seeing all these lazy games that use gambling as there main gameplay mechanic just makes me pretty angry since it just kills alot of the creativity on roblox. Why create a amazing game that you spent 1 year working on when you can create a game where players have to gamble in only 5 days? there are always a few hidden gems, but usually those are hard to find. And the ones that do get onto the front page are extremely lucky.

This is just the end game of premium payouts Roblox tbh. The content isn’t important, all it requires now is a way to keep players in the game. I dont think there’s enough room for variety in this little “genre” to really become the meta, but I won’t be surprised if more Roblox games started to implement “ro-casino” aspects to their game for the sole purpose of padding, like with Blade Ball.

Man, I honestly have only ever played sol’s with my friends, I slowly got out of playing it, practicing with making harder than average obbies, playing rhythm games and getting more skilled. I find that just having fun with friends, even if it is across a screen, is better than looking at a roll count go up, rolling for a better aura, or even getting another of an aura.

When i saw that game in the home page I played it thinking its some kind of simulator AT LEAST. I tried it and i was confused i thought i was in a glitched server or something where the game wasn't working, so i kept asking how to play but ofc nobody was there. Hey there, Im someone whos been interested in how rng can be implemented into RPGS such as better and more natural generative dungeons etc
Ive also been addicted to games like this in the past and feel I could add a bit here
I believe the first game of this rng style was Ball rng which first showed other developers this was a viable game to make.
Whilst I know of a few others that had similar predatory systems, and I had played Sols during its very early release, it was making their "rolls" automatic that made their playerbase skyrocket, as most of the same type were charging for that.
And i think the vegas comparison is totally valid, Vampire Survivors showed that in truth there is very little between gamers and gamblers when you see what content each consumes. the only difference is what is lost or gained.
I personally think it’s really cool that a star made a game! They’re usually kinda busy fusing stuff, and keeping planets in balance.

Friend of mine showed me this game today and literally 2 hours later this video pops up. Thank god the timing was perfect, knowing myself I probably would have gotten addicted.

Combat Initiation is a really underrated Roblox Coop game, WITH ONLY 400 PLAYERS ACTIVE DAILY.
SOLS RNG, THOUGH, HAS 34K DAILY ACTIVE USERS.
Now, Sols rng is for all devices and Combat Initiation is for PC, Roblox has MILLIONS of people using random devices.
I can find great games with mobile support that barely make it past 1k on a normal day. Case in point: Dummies vs noobs, hours and midnight racing Tokyo. Games are amazing with mobile support but will never see the popularity of the garbage that is sols rng

Wish I could like a video more than once for this one.
Have never clicked on this game, but seeing rng in the title i expected the bare minimum of a randomizer like item asylum, allusion,…. or at least rng to get a certain tool for a main gameplay.

Im not a developers, but i do have an interest in coding, and sometime i thought of some random concept of games i could make in this platform.
Sucks to think none of them held up to absolutely nothing: the game, especially when they are making banks because of fucking premium payout.
I can guarantee you the coding required for sol’s rng is about the same amount of code required to make tetris. It would take MUCH longer to model the vfx and sfx for this game than it would take to code.

sols rng is basically a casino with lots of gambling but for free, i once played it and said to myself "how is this fun?"
It's been 2 weeks since this video dropped, more and more games on the recommended page are now following this game's trend. Roblox is about to hit a dark point in it's history.

A genre of game I like to play sometimes is incremental. I'd say it has a somewhat similar format to Sol's RNG, but at least those kinds of games have a little more gameplay. Kind of like a tycoon but infinite, and they usually are just semi-linear (tree incrementals). My favorite of the incrementals has to be Incremental Tycoon. Sad that it's not infinite progression, but man was it fun progressing through that. It had so many active parts of the game that you could automate after a while.
That's called an Idle game. While idle games aren't doing nothing (unlike sol's rng), they still have often inactive gameplay, and the concept of long term progress.

They deleted all the gameplay they could while promising maximum player engagement. I'm convinced it's a ploy by vegas slot machine companies to get kids hooked early.
It's one of the smartest things I've came across. Taking advantage of the human's natural desire to flex his stuff - covering the need to make the genre of the game like fighting which requires a lot of effort. Basically 1 small thing saved a whole lot of time & energy
It's nature of being straight-forward and no risk when gambling/rolling, it'll land you endlessly keep on rolling for more auras. The developers are adaptable and fully embraced the AFK trend to allow player freedom in the game, that's a a sign of competence which a lot of game developers don't have.
As much as it's evil, it's bloody brilliant & extremely effective. It's only expected they'd get this many players.

Playing a game so you can throw your life away is kinda crazy. Me and my friend are young but he got sucked in, i avoided it at all costs because i know that it would try to suck me in but it never did. It was just a thing i play and never was impressed. 2 times i have played it and yet i don't seem to care about the game still.
