  • Everyone that's worked in video for any amount of time has either encountered, or knowingly ignored, the spectre that is content moderation. If you allow users to upload video to the internet, you're bound to get content that you don't want to host, whether for brand reputation, financial stability, or, in some cases, issues with the law(s). Content rights infringement (whether IP-related like shows on Netflix or sports rights), pornography, violence, and illegal content are among the multitude of things that providers need to be aware of.
This talk will start with a high level overview of why content moderation is important. It will then cover some basics of how companies can moderate content. In the end, it will focus on something that we've worked on ourselves, combining live captioning, AI (yes, ChatGPT), and live streaming in order to help detect live sports content that might be problematic. No guarantee is made for how well this works, but it's a fun journey regardless.
This talk was presented at Demuxed '23, a conference for video nerds in San Francisco featuring amazing talks like this one.
