TNT has come close as chuck, shaq, Kenny, and ej are entertaining and Mike Breen is amazing . But I would love the privilege of watching NBA on NBC. I was born after the show ended and watching this, I envy anyone who had the pleasure of watching this in the 90s and early 00s
R.i.p Kobe Bryant (1978-2020). 5 time NBA world champion from 2000, 01, 02, 09 - 10. 18 time all star at age 41. Along with his young daughter Gianna (2006-2020) at age 13 died in a tragic helicopter crash accident along with seven others including the pilot on Sunday morning January 26th 2020. There will never be another great player like the black mamba - his legacy & spirit will live on forever throughout the city of Los Angeles.
Hands down the best network intro for the NBA. When ABC got the license to cover the NBA games I already knew before I even watched the first ABC televised game it wasn't going to hold a candle to NBC's intro....FACTS
NBA on NBC did it like no other made the games into a story the gravity impact of the game. They let you know that the game was on and that it mattered the most. This will always be the NBA to me not nowadays kids three pointer telecast with no heart and when you know who will already win in the dull super teams era. Nowadays the tv broadcast won't even let you get into it they just isolate their audience.
Existent David, yeah, I like the background stories too that add gravity, suspense, hype, emotion, and depth. Almost like you are watching a riveting drama show as much as a game.
R.i.p. NBA ON NBC (1990-2002). Extraordinary 12 year telecast run that began at 11/3rd/1990 then ended on 6/12th/2002. Like don't we all agree that we miss those years of professional pure basketball greatness?! Yes we all do for real. 1992 is where i grew up with the league along with my favorite childhood flim Space Jam came 11/15th 1996 in theaters. Teamwork, Defense & Perseverance win NBA Championships. Today's modern era of the NBA is just way too soft.
It's crazy how NBC's run lines up perfectly with Jordan's first of six championships and the end of the Lakers three-peat... That why we associate the NBA on NBC with greatness
@Mahad M The NBA On ABC just does not compare & don't hold a candle to the magical greatness that the NBA On NBC had to offer to all of us basketball nerds after so many long years of long ago.
2003 - the end of the dream team era & the league would never be the same again. The 1980's, 1990's & early 2000's will always be the NBA to all of us basketball fanatics than what it is in today's modern timeline era. I miss 1992, witnessing greatness of the league.
@wilsonfisk6626 I still have my love for the game of NBA basketball from 1992 to early 2000's all the way to the modern soft era team era began in 2004 & beyond.
This was the second time Larry Bird coached against Phil Jackson in a series. They coached against each other back in 1998. The other crazy part is that Reggie Miller, Dale Davis, Chris Mullin, Jalen Rose, Mark Jackson, Rik Smits, Travis Best, and Derrick McKey lost to Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman in 1998 Eastern Conference Finals and lost to Shaq and Kobe in the 2000 NBA Finals and the 97-98 Bulls & 99-00 Lakers teams were both coached by Phil Jackson. Ron Harper was on the 97-98 Bulls & 99-00 Lakers that beat the Pacers
I hated losing to the Lakers in 2000....the summer after my graduation from high school, but they were definitely the better team than anyone; that included the late Kobe Bryant...who I spent a lot of years rooting against, but greatly respected. Go Pacers!!!!
It's funny when Bill Walton said to Isiah Thomas "You look like someone who wants to coach the Pacers." especially when you consider that the Pacers hired him to be their head coach a couple months later.
Bob Costas and NBC completely ripped part of the opening monologue from a Larry Bird documentary called "Larry Bird: A Basketball Legend". I wonder if they were given rights to do that or if they just took it thinking no one would notice it.
NO ONE did it better than NBA on NBC, and no one has since
10,000 agrees on that for sure!! ABC's intro is trash to the nth degree....Hell, CBS's NBA days were better than ABC's
I STILL get goosebumps listening to the opening
Disney will never be as good as the old NBC days

NBC made this so intense. Intensified the storyline and made me excited. I would get so excited to watch
Such an amazing intro. The NBA on NBC was truly a legendary time. Today's NBA don't cone anywhere close
Today's NBA is a joke. It is so unwatchable. The 80s and 90s NBA and today's NBA are like 2 different leagues.

It’s still fun to watch, but I do miss the grind they would go through just for two points, now like now where they’re bucking so many damn threes.

You knew it was on as soon as that NBA on NBC Intro hit!
NBA on NBC I gotta say there intro still gives me goosebumps to this day! I miss those days for sure!
Hands down best intro best music like it was said nobody did better and the commercials made you wanted to watch the game like the next day
2:04 Hard to imagine that Downtown LA has grown and changed so much since 2000!
Wow it started with Michael Jordan and it ended with kobe Bryant
Seeing Staples now Crypto looks so different almost 25 years ago
The intro stories that nba on nbc had goosebumps!!!!
The intro alone would get you amped for the game as it made it feel like a real event.
I loved that pacers team and the old Kings team

Pure nostalgia. The memories, excitement seeing the Lakers win their first championship in my lifetime rushing in.

Ah yess!!! The Lakers 3 Peat Era!
2:35-3:06 DMX’s song in the background 😮🔥 #RIPDMX
It's funny when Bill Walton said to Isiah Thomas "You look like someone who wants to coach the Pacers." especially when you consider that the Pacers hired him to be their head coach a couple months later.
My Pacers just came up short, against a loaded Lakers team. I miss Reggie, sorry Indiana couldn’t get you a championship.
They tried but the Lakers were just a little bit better.
I remember thinking “Damn Larry can’t get away from the lakers not even as a HC”
RIP Bill Walton
Business was about to pick up when you heard that intro!
NBA on NBC is back 2024-2025! 🏀
NBC beats out TNT.
But I will miss the NBA on TNT with Shaq and Barkley and that comedy they did
Isiah Thomas coaches the pacers from 2001 to 2004
And promptly wastes a talented team because he's a shit coach.

Wasn't there some controversey in the WCF during the Blazers/Lakers series?
Crazy Reggie had to wait until MJ left but then had to face MJ’s clone.
