The cost of this repair is elevated due to the flat rate manual charge at dealerships and shops, If anyone is looking to have this done to their vehicle, I provide service in Houston, Katy , Cypress, Richmond in Texas, by appointment only. a flat labor rate, plus parts for any Lexus es350 or Lexus rx350 (Front lower control arms, lower ball joints and front sway bar links replacement) inquiry to my email omarguevara27@gmail.com. Thank you.
The dealers seems to quote each part they replace as it own operation, and ignore the fact that replacing a part that you have to remove anyway doesn't add any labor. They just double dip on the labor.
Great video! Just ordered the control arms today. Got the Moog ones with the ball joints installed already from Rock Auto. Hopefully they last another 120k.
Thank you for taking the time to post this. I’ve been meaning to replace my lower control arms but thought it would be a headache. You definitely gave me motivation to get this done now. 👍👍👍
A vise might not be sufficient, maybea large heavy duty one. I recommend a 12 ton press. I did some research and only Moog and delphi makes a replacement rubber bushing for the control arm. I have had experience with the moog one and doesn't last long, maybe 4 years tops. OEM is 10 years but toyota doesnt sell it seperately. Up to you to decide what you want to do. Knocking sound side to side while park can come from 1-tie rod ends, check them for play or the intermediate shaft in the steering column, it’s also coming on rhe RXs

@@OmarGueva Thanks for the reply. Turns out my inner CV had come out of position. When doing the other side I found it easier to loosen the axle nut so the knuckle can be pulled out without disturbing the CV joints.
Nice job. I'm guessing a mechanic would charge a shit ton for this, which is why I'm researching how to DIY. Overall it doesn't look too complicated for a semi skilled person.
Rocking, swaying, unstable feeling drive. Usually associated with the rubber bushing getting old and ripped on these vehicles. Also check inner and outer tie rod ends that also produce similar symptoms.
Hi, if the control arm bushings are torn you might experience that the suspension moves when braking or a thump noise, if the ball joint is bad you will hear a rattle or clunk when going over bump
Yes, the flat rate manual specified that amount but includes the removal of the whole engine, at the dealer we are charging 7hrs of labor since we don’t remove the engine.
I am about to do this on my MILs car tomorrow. The dealerships basically quote this as if they are going to do each operation separately and put it all back together. So they double dip on all the labor. For example, if you are going to have the top engine mount off anyway, replacing it should just be the part. No labor is added. They were trying to change like $6k to do this plus maintenance. INSANE!
I just had the control arms replaced on the 2013 RX 350. The SUV sometimes makes a ringing sound when decelerating at very low speed. Mostly when braking, any ideas?
missing the point,,, when you use impact gun the bolt start spinning- it rips the rubber,,,btw I use hex key on a 10 year old lexus and it works, of course you can use another wrench like you did but oe stabilizers even after 10 years have no problem with the allen key,,,the point is the spinning bolt = RIP to the rubber boot by design,,,

where to support the engine when doing the driver side? on the transmission? Also, did you have to loosen the center mount in the front??

So you didn’t have to drop the engine ?
Hello, no, the job can be done without removing the engine, even though the repair manual says you need to remove it
can you link me to the wobble extension that you use?
It’s a regular 1/2 universal joint, something like this a.co/d/fm7DKta
Drop the motor to a lower control arm? And use the jack on the oil pan?
When you remove the torque mount at the top of the engine, do you need to support the engine from the bottom at the oil pan?
Nope. After all engine mounts loosened then raise the engine.

How do you connect the ball joint to the control arm. You skipped that part
Some control arms have the ball joint pre-installed.
