Thanks! Could you kindly make a video for the apple Final Cut camera app 😎 I think it will go well with what people are doing on Final Cut Pro apps on Mac’s
Thanks for this video. Many “experts” overlook the many features only found in the native camera app. While not perfect, the Cinematic mode is a great way to separate the subject from the scene - when the shot requires it. It’s also a 10 bit file IF you shoot with HDR switched on.
:( I don't have an iPhone, I only have a very old Android but would like an iPhone to help with my videos, also your thumbnails are sooo clear and nice. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for the video. I record many dance videos . All your tips would be soo much useful. Also what are your thoughts on DJI OSMO Pocket 3 ? Thanks again.
Thank you. What is your recommendation for length of recording? I'm shooting an interview and would like to capture 60 minutes of footage at a time. Also, does this store on the iPhone or in the Cloud? I image this would take a lot of memory. Thanks in advance.
I run a dinner show with lots of lighting and effects. I can get fairly good recordings with my iphone 15 promax, but still run into lighting exposure issues when the lights are changing from one color to another. Is there a setting that I'm missing, that can help with this? Also, is there a mic you would recommend pairing with the iphone for recording live music? Thank you for providing outstanding videos and information!
Great video! I have an iPhone 14 Pro and have been wondering how to make the most of its camera for a while now - this video popped up at the perfect time :)
Very good video. I have an Iphone 15 Pro and your video clarify many of my doubts. Just one thing, at the link of "Rode video Mic ME", the link is not working. Every time I clicked there send me to a different advertisement . I don't know if that is right.
If I’m shooting 4K 30 FPS and I’m not in the sun, will my iPhone 15/16 Pro Max overheat if I’m creating a several hour long video? (I’ll use a USB hub with external SSD and extra battery with enough power for everything. ) Thank you!
How do you actually get the footage out of Black Magic with the Lot color grading to then start editing the actual clips outside of Black Magic? When I export to a file it seems to be ungraded.
Hi, I have a question. I recently purchased an iPhone 15 pro max -- considering switching from android. However, there are a few things that are really bothering me. 1) On the iphone, is possible to pause and resume video recording, all in the same take/file? 2) Is it possible to flip between the front and rear cameras while video recording? I can't seem to figure this out. I use these features on my galaxy all the time, and it's odd to me that these features don't exist on the iPhone. Do you have any experience with features? Or does that Blackmagic app unlock them? Thanks in advance for any help!
These features aren’t in the native camera app, the iPhone works more like a pro mirrorless camera where each file is separate. I agree that it’s a great feature, try Spark Camera.
@@stalman Tysm for the response! I just checked it out online, and it does seem to have some nice features. It doesn't seem to support these particular features, but I can't tell from the info on their sites. I'll have to do more investigating. Thanks again for the lead! 🙏🏾
@@stalman I’m on a 15 pro, maybe I didn’t setup with setting correctly for the LUT function to work. FYI my first time trying to use different setting for filming content.
One note. The direct camera comparison isn’t entirely fair. You put a shot from iPhone’s front sensor compared to lumixs main sensor (graded Apple log vs graded lumix log). Especially the depth of field would be much better if you’d used main back sensor.
I think you missed the point - it was clearly explained the point of that comparison shot was to show the importance of how shooting in log on the phone CAN get you a serviceable/good enough shot compared to the final image from a ‘big camera’ in a pinch.
@@avokevo5394 I don't think I did, but fair enough. Just try shooting in different sensors and do color grading. In my eyes both our arguments are valid.
which phone do you think has the best Sound Quality on recording a video? i need a good sound recording phone let me know thanks I would like to avoid an Iphone...
Hi, can I import and edit the apple log video (prores 422 LT or HEVC) on a PC? I am willing to buy an iphone (am used to android) but not willing to change my pc as well. Thanks
@@stalman you can see the Khronos system as an example, it is roughly the same dimensions as the phone started, with a small square filter over the camera bump (you of course can add a lot more stuff, but you don't have to)
This was really helpful buddy. I didn't realise Black Magic made a phone app. I use Davinci Resolve usually for my long form videos. So it would be cool to use their phone app too. My very old LG5 phone finally broke, at the worst timing, as is so often the case. My used iphone 12 pro max arrives today. So hopefully it will work good for shooting youtube shorts etc. God bless :o) Onwards !!
Why recommend 30fps when you have no control over the frame exposure time? If you could fix the iPhone camera to 1/60 sec (and compensate with variable aperture or an ND filter) then 30 fps make sense. But you can't. And on a sunny day you can easily get videos with 1/500 or faster frames. This looks just choppy with zero motion blur. At 60 fps this effect is kind of mitigated because you get closer to the magic rule that exposure should be 1/2x the fps. If we could shoot at 120 fps then it would almost go away since 1/240 should be fast enough for normal lighting. For a cinematic effect you could then produce 24fps video by blending 5 consecutive frames into one. Excuse my ignorance, but I just can't agree with the low fps narrative with non professional cameras.
The term “professional” camera always makes me laugh. With how good cameras are on phones, they are right up there competing with $3,000+ cameras. I have a photography business just using my iPhone and lens attachments, no different than a camera with different lens options but much more affordable for the creative person to get into photography and videography but without the higher expense. The camera doesn’t make the professional.
@@Nateographyi believe you're wrong, because a 1000$ phone with a camera sensor no bigger than my pinky nail cannot compete with the sensor of a 3000$ device. Nevertheless, your existence is your own so, as long as you're happy
Great video. Although, as a professional videographer for many years & a prolific iPhone user, I don’t recommend vertical video for any professional shoot. It’s ok for social media, I guess, but I’ve never met a real pro that shoots vertical. We only shoot 16x9 or anamorphic. Still, you did a great vid for social media users. 👍
This year our biggest clients started to be native social content rather than traditional horizontal commercials. Obviously both 16x9 isn’t going away but vertical work is massive.
I don’t understand the popularity of the portrait “vertical” mode. It wastes over two thirds of the screen on televisions and computer screens. Human vision is basically wider than it’s tall. It just seems ridiculous to me when we have to look at the world this way. It doesn’t seem natural.

I’m excited to hear what you think about the Final Cut camera application
Great video, thank you. Maybe you could do a video on iPhone media management and workflow.
That’s a tough one 😅 I manage most our video shoots on the Mac and edit in Final Cut and only deal with quick projects on the phone

Yes they are universal standard file formats
I really need a VND, shutter angle is locked, ISO only goes so low, and fixed aperture, really need a way to manage exposure.
There are lots of options out there. i just find that once I’ve rigged the phone up to the size of a mirrorless, I’d rather just use the mirrorless

Consider the Sennheiser memory mic 🎙

My guess is the bit rate is highest in 4k30 without having to waste space 4k60, not everything needs to be slowed down 😅
