Another reason the hidden town area is such a good grinding area is that you are practicing against lizalfos's before heading towards the final palace, where there are a bunch of lizalfos's on your way that you HAVE to fight without being able to use a jump attack.
yea gonzo i did manage to beat tyson only it was mr dream i had the one with mr dream i beat him with out stars just dodging it can be done and t becomes second nature
22:20 you can make that jump w/o jump spell. And the orange cretures dropping the flame show you where the hole is because it falls through. And you can't use fairy because of the blocks you need the sword for.
Am i the only one who doesn't think death mountain is as hard as everyone says it is? In fact, it's not hard at all. Also, this is a very good game, but it gets way too much hate from Zelda fanboys.
I lent my game to my friends brother to get the hammer for me so I could actually get through the rest of the game. Eventually I did it all myself though.
Pro Tip: If you go all the way to the left just before the fight with Thunderbird, you can stab the blocks there to make either a Red Bird or a red magic vial appear. That way you don't have to die to the boss just to fill you life and magic again.
+GabrieXL (sir Maleficious) I suck at NES games. I can't even beat SMB1 or 3 without game genie or save states, but I've beaten Zelda II more times than I can count. It's definitely easier than The original LoZ 2nd quest with all of the damn blue darknuts everywhere.
1:47:35 - They give you a key when you kill all bosses/minibosses because that's the mechanism the game uses to unlock the screen scrolling. So while you don't need the key, it's just the ready-made solution to let you progress to the next screen.
I literally had to map the last level in my mind when I was a kid playing this game. It worked so well I have never forgotten it. I can't remember the layout of any other level in this game, except the last one.
The most underrated Zelda game is 'Link's Awakening' for GameBoy. It's amazing, and is a complete Zelda game, with less content than 'A Link to the Past', but still amazing.
rocks can be defended with your shield whereas fireballs cannot (according to the manual). so that's how you can determine whether those guys are throwing rocks or fireballs
farming : doing the same event chains over and over for materials(new weps, armor, items) grinding: killing the same enemies over and over to level up.
Thank you so much Mike, for being guide to beat on of the hardest Zelda game ever, I just finished after three nights of playing it while watching your video, like playing with you haha I swear I had one little health and I was about to die, 0 lifes, and I saw the trick to kill dark Link and I did it, I don't know how, but that was it, I made it. Thank you .
I love the style of Zelda 2 with side-scrolling gameplay combined with an overworld map that makes the world feel more real. I wish you'd play Gargoyles Quest 2!
Mike, with the Blue birds things and the blocks all you have to do is use jump and cut a path up high. You were down thrusting once you got up there which sent you all the way back to the bottom of that wall of blocks.
Just stumbled on this today. Always use reflect against the mace throwers and ghosts. Not only does it save you hassle but its easy exp farm as well. On top of that every 5th kill drops a red potion or P-bag.
Dude funcoland! Your 8 years older than me but I remember being a kid and looking in that funco land "news paper" and highlighting all the games I wanted. They were only 50c-$2.50 lol. I walked out of there with mad shit as a 8-10 year old kid. I could t believe how under valued everything was. Even though I loved my n64 I always appreciated the nes.
It is random whether you get a red potion or a red enemy from a statue. If you get the enemy and do not kill it, you can leave the screen and try again.
Did you ever play Lunar: The Silver Star on Sega CD? (or any of the re-releases?) I really enjoyed the game, and enjoyed the writing. I never finished it though because I was really busy at the time and I needed to grind up some levels. I guess it would be too long to live stream though, since the game is about 25 hours.
Here is the secret to killing those eagle knights. 1) Block there sword attacks and do not attempt to attack them. They move too quickly for you to attack and defend at the same time. 2) Eventually they will try to jump on top of you. That is when you up attack on them. They will be bounced back. 3) Return to Step 1. Use that pattern and they go down like punk bitches.
scottydu81 It's not worldwide unfortunately...At least, last I checked. But I found a way.. Search for his Twitter account and he posts there when he's gonna stream.😇
I would love to see a playthrough of one of my favourite nes-games , here in Sweden it name was STREET GANGS !! A very fun and cool game , the caracters looked like the players in World cup....and when you hit the enemies they Eyes poped out , it looked so funny.....
Mike, so you have beaten this game a bunch of times but haven't played since 1987? Game wasn't released I'm North America until 1988 I think. Anywho in sure you have played through this since 1987.
Wow! He never died once, I've died a countless amount of times!! That is one of the greatest gaming achievements ever! Gamer score increased by 1,000,000,000!
+nikboutch1818 Level 8 is the max with all the stats BUT if you go and level up again after that you actually get a 1UP and this is actually stated in the instruction manual I do believe
+nikboutch1818 I just wanted to double check myself so I googled it and I was right that you get an extra life if you level past 8 and I think that is for any of them so if you are one of those people with a lot of time on your hands you can get leveled up to 8 and then keep grinding up to 8 and getting extra lives. Inteesting
Mike, you fucked up when you chose to go left instead of right. When you saw those red snakes you should of kept going. I am more of a master than Mike with Zelda 2, muhahaha.
"Barba" should be familiar with anyone who played Ocarina of Time. Zelda 2 just suffered from "blind idiot" translation. In Japanese, it was called バルバジア (barubajia). OOT retranslated the name to the more accurate to the Japanese "Volvagia". That fight was intended to be a callback to the Zelda 2 boss. Unfortunately, English speaking audiences totally missed the reference due to Zelda 2's awful translation. In Japanese they have the exact same name. The only difference being OOT added 灼熱穴居竜 to the beginning of the name, which roughly translates as Scorching Hot Cave-Dwelling Dragon. Just as the English version added Subterranean Lava Dragon.
I don't understand why he spends so much time "farming" or whatever and then when he's in the final dungeon, rather than patiently properly fighting the monsters, he runs through them and takes 2 or 3 hits and doesn't even kill anything other than the easiest enemies.
+syxx573 He doesn't know how to fight anything without taking a million hits. The blue ironknuckles are easy. The blue lizardmen are easy. The blue eagle warrior aren't too bad either. Mike just panics and starts mashing buttons.
+JAKECUB100 The blue ironknuckes throw their swords slowly until you hit them, then they rage for a few seconds. Wait until they calm down to attack again. They back away when you get close so if you're patient it's pretty easy to beat them without taking a hit.
the lizard men and knights are incredibly easy to take out in this game. You have to jump and hit them in the head. Once you get the timing down you will blow through them.
I honestly wish this game didn't get the hate it did. I love this game so much, and would wish they would make another game in this style, but that'll never happen. We still have this, though...
I don't understand why people find this game so hard. Mike is STRUGGLING on the blue knights and the skull balls. You just have to be patient and be deliberate. This is NES, so you can't just rush. Block the knives and then attack.
The only real hard part about beating the final dungeon is the thunderchicken. Dark link is easy with the duck and slash method. I have no qualms about cheesing that boss.
did the term "farming" originate in minecraft? I mean you definitely farm in this game :-P or maybe harvest moon?? but I think "farming" is more recent then harvest moon
I traded my NES and all my games for a SNES and ONE game (Madden Football).... I hate football, but was desperate to get the SNES... Slowly trying to get my NES games back, but I had some really good ones and they're expensive now... :/
The only problem I had with Zelda 2 was Death Mountain.. I've never been able to get past it, but I really like it I wish they would remake it for Switch
These have made my week.
Thank you.
This was a very good playthrough. Looking forward to the upcoming ones!
Another reason the hidden town area is such a good grinding area is that you are practicing against lizalfos's before heading towards the final palace, where there are a bunch of lizalfos's on your way that you HAVE to fight without being able to use a jump attack.
Damn....Welcome to the club!!! I beat this some 20 years ago...like beating mike tysons punch out...a gaming badge of honor.
yea gonzo i did manage to beat tyson only it was mr dream i had the one with mr dream i beat him with out stars just dodging it can be done and t becomes second nature
the best area to farm is outside the hidden village there's 2 lizards each time each worth 150 and a total of 300 you can get a lot quickly.
Death Mountain is so easy once you know to always go right and take the elevators down.
I lent my game to my friends brother to get the hammer for me so I could actually get through the rest of the game. Eventually I did it all myself though.
Hell, i think death mountain is a great place to grind levels. Yeah it's a bit tricky (at least w/o the downthrust).
After learning the right way to go so I didn't have to fight more enemies than necessary, then I found Death Mountain pretty easy.
+wilkes85 in my experience its "easy" if you know where to go. but if you dont, its very hard ^^
Pro Tip: If you go all the way to the left just before the fight with Thunderbird, you can stab the blocks there to make either a Red Bird or a red magic vial appear. That way you don't have to die to the boss just to fill you life and magic again.
Thunderbird is one of the coolest bosses in gaming history. Damn that thing looks badass.
Best grinding spot is the forest area to the left of Hidden Town Kasuto, way faster than killing spiders in the Nabooru area.
I am an old school gamer and I was there when grinding and farming terms came out and know the difference between the two.
+Zeldas Champion Ok..
Matthew Schenk Oh fuck I didn't know... lol sorry Zeldas Champion 😘😏😜
Do you think you could do a SOTN play through?
+Fox Carlson +1 from me. SOTN was a game I thoroughly enjoyed!
+Docere77 SOTN is one of the best PlayStation games ever
The place I level up at the end is in south forest with the orange dinosaurs in armor. Not sure but I think it's 150 points by enemy X2 by screen.
I was there when you beat it!! *sheds a tear* I beat Zelda II one time, it's right up there with Ninja Gaiden in the "Nintendo Hard" category.
+Cinemassacre Extras poop spaghetti
+GabrieXL (sir Maleficious) I suck at NES games. I can't even beat SMB1 or 3 without game genie or save states, but I've beaten Zelda II more times than I can count. It's definitely easier than The original LoZ 2nd quest with all of the damn blue darknuts everywhere.
+Sadpants McGee obvious troll is obvious
GabrieXL Who's trolling?
dan right both were brutal as shit

+caelumborn Probably was coined by those MMO nerds too
Loved that, Mike. Thx for nice stream.
I love this game. I have had it since 1987 and my method of playing the game is different from what I have seen from other gamers.
God damn it mike upload the other live streams!!! I have no life and they make the day go by faster.
watching this I literally let out cries of agghh and ouhh when you lost a life or made a tricky jump, good stuff Mike thanks for the upload
Thank you so much Mike, for being guide to beat on of the hardest Zelda game ever, I just finished after three nights of playing it while watching your video, like playing with you haha
I swear I had one little health and I was about to die, 0 lifes, and I saw the trick to kill dark Link and I did it, I don't know how, but that was it, I made it.
Thank you .
Where did the super Mario Bros 2 live stream go?
Loved all three parts Mike, thanks!
I love the style of Zelda 2 with side-scrolling gameplay combined with an overworld map that makes the world feel more real. I wish you'd play Gargoyles Quest 2!
I erased my sister's game.... she was at the end. I was like 3yrs old at the time, I didn't know wtf I was doing. I'm so fucking sorry!
The final palace theme, part of it reminds me of when you fight Wart in SMB2.
I wonder if you can use spell on the blue eagles. I just finished the 7th temple. I'll let you know.
Farming is for items. Grinding is for stats/XP. As for where they came from, probably MMOs, maybe Everquest if not sooner.
At the end I was hoping you would say, "Not for the faint of heart but that doesn't mean it's not awesome".
Mike, with the Blue birds things and the blocks all you have to do is use jump and cut a path up high. You were down thrusting once you got up there which sent you all the way back to the bottom of that wall of blocks.

Thunderbird is the hardest part of the game. Felt a real sense of accomplishment when I beat this as a kid.
In these multi-part playthroughs, would it be too much to ask to link to next/previous videos in the descriptions??
You start with 3 lives after a game over right? Should've game overed before getting the extra lives.
+Critz McGritz Strategic suicide is what this game is all about.
+Critz McGritz This is a good point. Your XP goes away, but it seems that right after leveling near the end of the game, your advice would be spot-on.
Do you mention on twitter when you go live? Facebook? Anything
+michael bailey I would like to know that too. :)
If you have the youtube gaming app on your phone and subsnirb to their channel, you'll get phone alerts
scottydu81 It's not worldwide unfortunately...At least, last I checked.
But I found a way..
Search for his Twitter account and he posts there when he's gonna stream.😇
scottydu81 Awesome name sir keep up the good work scott lol
Scott Bono II fuckin A
What time does Mike usually do these live streams and does he have a heads up when he does them ? I really want to catch them live. Thanks
Super shredder was in TMNT the 2nd live action movie, in 1990, I think.
Which software do you use to stream and record?
Are you using two different software?
If you kill the unicorn heads, they stop for a while.
How can those little blob things hurt you, they're adorable!
I would love to see a playthrough of one of my favourite nes-games , here in Sweden it name was STREET GANGS !! A very fun and cool game , the caracters looked like the players in World cup....and when you hit the enemies they Eyes poped out , it looked so funny.....
Mike please do a livestream of Tomba on PSX. It's a fun game to play and there is much for us to see/help throughout the game.

Gamer score increased by 1,000,000,000!
who was little guy at the end
Mike lost so much life throughout this play through by trying to run past enemies. Next time stand and fight!
Mike will u play Battle of olypmus on stream ? :)
I'm wondering if you can level up higher than level 8, I never tried.
+nikboutch1818 Level 8 is the max with all the stats BUT if you go and level up again after that you actually get a 1UP and this is actually stated in the instruction manual I do believe
+Joshua Curtis thanks for the info, like most of people, I don't have the manual anymore.

When we played this game as kids we called the guys on the fense Wilson also.
A live stream needs to be done of TMNT 2 and TMNT 3
can ne1 pls tell me how i get informed of the live streams pls
ty my friend
If I remember right, you can continue from the last castle. It doesn't bring you back to Zelda's castle.
oh you did.
The fairy always looked like a carrot with wings to me .
Looks like the trick to fight Hades in battle of Olympus except other way around
The dragon is actually "Volvagia" (same as Ocarina), but NoA badly butchered the translation on this one. It was corrected on the GBA version.
Turtles Forever had a giant Shredder.
Turtles Forever also had a giant Krang.
grinding is for exp. farming is for items.
has Mike stopped doing these?? hope not. I'd like to see more Zelda still
Damn lvl 6 is like the water temple x2 in this game lol
"Barba" should be familiar with anyone who played Ocarina of Time. Zelda 2 just suffered from "blind idiot" translation. In Japanese, it was called バルバジア (barubajia). Mike, could you stream Dark Souls or Bloodborne at some time? That would be beyond awesome. Keep up the good work man, cheers!

+syxx573 been wanting to know for decades, what the best way to kill ironknuckles and the bull lizard dudes.
thanks for the info bro!
+JAKECUB100 The blue ironknuckes throw their swords slowly until you hit them, then they rage for a few seconds. Wait until they calm down to attack again. They back away when you get close so if you're patient it's pretty easy to beat them without taking a hit.
+benfrombelow
Holy shit. 20 years too late, but thanks, man
you should grind near the hidden city in the forest. if I remember correctly it's 200 experience per kill instead of 50.
the lizard men and knights are incredibly easy to take out in this game. You have to jump and hit them in the head. Once you get the timing down you will blow through them.
You can crab those guest items as a fairy
Me and a friend always called that thing of the Phoenix
Mike definitely has skill in this game but I can not get over how much trouble he has with shielded enemies.
I honestly wish this game didn't get the hate it did. I love this game so much, and would wish they would make another game in this style, but that'll never happen. We still have this, though...
25 cents for a NES game?! If I ever saw that back then I would have bought them even though I never owned a NES.
I don't understand why people find this game so hard. Mike is STRUGGLING on the blue knights and the skull balls. You just have to be patient and be deliberate. This is NES, so you can't just rush. Block the knives and then attack.
farming to me is getting goods like items/gear. grinding is the same . correct me
+EFnine Man You are correct.
So wrong..
Farming = doing someting over and over ...
Grinding = doing someting over and over ...
It really is that simple. Stop being stupid! :p
Grinding is now farming?
also up thrust is the bane of the turkey soldiers.
Holy shit, that is Enter the Dragon music :P
The only real hard part about beating the final dungeon is the thunderchicken. Dark link is easy with the duck and slash method. I have no qualms about cheesing that boss.
did the term "farming" originate in
minecraft?
I mean you definitely farm in this game :-P
or maybe harvest moon??
but I think "farming" is more recent then harvest moon
mkay
Mike you da MVP.
I traded my NES and all my games for a SNES and ONE game (Madden Football)....
I hate football, but was desperate to get the SNES... Slowly trying to get my NES games back, but I had some really good ones and they're expensive now... :/
lol panick panick panick at the end
Pause at 38:12. Undertaker mode.
The only problem I had with Zelda 2 was Death Mountain.. I've never been able to get past it, but I really like it I wish they would remake it for Switch
Play castlevania and the ninja gaiden trilogy on nes
+heheahah123 Or at least play the Japanese version. The American version is insane!
mike totally went the wrong way in the final temple
Mike, i recomend you Golvellius, from the master system.
Well the whole "farming" thing seems to come from mmo. And still before the whole mmo thing people tend to use that terms playing ff7 for example.
it began with everquest and other mmos
He called it farming again😂
I managed to watch this live. there were so many salty people blasting mike because of how he beat dark link
mike plz, more streams
You should play through StarTropics next.
+Pay Thos (Pathos) Yes please do. To this day i find myself randomly humming the music to that game.
Such a good game. Islands, and dolphins, and aliens, and... wtf?!??
Joshua Maine
rofl. Epic son, epiiiic!! :D
HappyConsoleGamer did one this summer with his old childhood buddy, very good video
For a LOZ film I don't think I would have anyone else but Zelda Williams be Zelda
+yoyoyoshio267 I think it should be Nikki Minaj
culwin Who?
Mike, make a separate video about your Donald Duck collection!
