If i close my eyes and listen to this song, there are growing pictures from a nice little smoky pub and i wish i could be there. Thank you for the great song.
I went and saw them last night, (Sunday Nov 4th 2007) in Sunrise Fl/. This was one great show. this guy has some voice and was funny too during this song. If you can go see this act, It was worth the price, and the Tickets were withen reason too.
I got to go see these guys for the first time in Hamilton this year. We started off with awful seats but then a couple ushers came up and moved us all the way down to the front row right infront of the stage. and when they played this song.. not a single person was making the slightest noise. I was completely captivated and mesmerized by the song. Truely was a fantastic show and will definitely be seeing them next year.
my favorite song of theirs SteveBroderick hits every note so well that it delivers the message every time... Always help one another and it will turn out for the better
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that cries during this song. I've seen them 3 times and I'm always good, up to this song, then I lose it. It's so beautiful and meaningful.
This is the East Coast touring group, which I have never seen, but I think Bart Shatto from the West does a much finer job. Could also be the audio from the source camera. Great to see Alex Skolnick on guitar! Thanks to the person taking the vid, and to the uploader! TSO rocks!
Frank E Savage Hi, I'm not sure of this gentleman's name, but I am from the East coast, so that would explain why I saw him. Lol I can't always keep track of the performers. Chris Caffery is my favorite so he's mostly who I worry about seeing. :-)
Gives me goosebumps. Steve Broderick has the most amazing voice. I can't wait to see TSO on January 5. I love going to see them every year; the show is just unbelievable.
trying to think of a word that goes beyond awesome, ohh wait, its that video, TSO i have seen alot of ur posts but u totaly topped urself with that one, Thank You Very Much! oh and MERRY CHRISTMAS
heh i was there too. i went last year and will go next year. they put on one hell of a show. i actually like the way they sang it this year. his voice was more scratchy and bum-like than in this video lol TSO rules they can make it christmas in july
@webarnesca I just happened to catch your comment as I was flipping through videos. The man in this particular video is my favorite. I am on the east coast and he is who we usually have, but last year we had a guy with a more deep and raspy voice and I actually didn't care for him as much.
hey.. you need to get Bart Shatto singin this song... broadway actors tend to pull off the drunk bum angel very well... hope to see one of him on her soon! -friend or Bart
@meyer1324 Holy shit how can you say that, I saw them 2 days ago and it was one of the best concert experiences ever, everything about it was great, the performers were all amazing musicians and singers, i loved the narrator, the sound was the best ive ever heard a live concert sound and the whole spectacle of it with the syncronized lights just fucking blew me away, i dont know what you saw but what you're describing is not the Trans Siberian Orchestra I saw
@iwannacapo Did you see TSO at the Prudential Center? I saw them there last saturday and it was a phenomenal show!!! They played "Old City Bar" and I enjoyed the extended narrative version
No, Tommy Farese does't sing it on the CD. He's the dad of the girl who's standing outside the bar. Therefore...he can't be the drunk in the bar watching this story unfold.
The people who insist on clapping throughout the song are kind of annoying. However, this song is great, and the only gripe that I have is that the guitar doesn't have as consistent of a dynamic as on the CD, and the voice is a tad loud at the beginning. Other than that, 4.5/5 for this performance, 6/5 for the CD recording, and 95/5 for the note at 1:24.
True that the west coast is better because it has the original artists. However, this video is from 2005. They have all come a long way in showmanship.
Yes he does wonder around outside before the show , I once met him , just sitting on curb , I packed a bowling bag for him full of some snacks I had purchased for the month for me while I bowled , I have hypoglycemia and constantly have to snack , bit anyways I packed a spare bag for him full of snacks , a six pack of power aid , and half carton of smokes , I have it to him and sat down to visit he side he needed to get home , so I offered him a fifty dollar bI'll to buy bus ticket , and he started crying and told me I was an angel , he gave me tickets front row to the show , right beside where he sat , before he wandered up on stafe, he later told me the stuff I have him I could have back if I needed it , I had told him of by hypoglycemic, problem , I told him to pass it to someone who needed it more than me , I would get by , he gave me 500 bucks and told me to pass it on to others I found in need , was such a good experience to meet him although he never mentioned his name but I figured it out after the show as to who he was.. I feel honored to have met him .. but he was the bum with the golden hair and beard. Anywaus peace and love to you bro .
I love this song. But I've noticed in recent years that the singer (in the tour that hits Toronto) is putting more and more old drunk into the performance. It's funny, but it really detracts from the emotion. The perfect version is on the Dreams of Hope Unspoken live album.
Agreed kinkdaddy69!! I've seen many of these you tube vids and they appear to all be the east coast group -- I MUCH PREFER the West Coast group...seen them in Dallas 5 times!!
This is one of my favorite songs during the concerts. Just saw them last week, but sadly, this wonderful man was not there. A different guy sang this song, and to me, his voice was way too raspy. I didn't like it as much. Still a magical show though!
i agree with you. i saw them in chicago on the 26th, and this was the only part i didnt love. a little too long for my taste. everything else pwned though.
the guitarist in this vid is Alex Skolnick . but he is not with TSO anymore . You can see him with his other bands Testament (metal) and The Alex Skolnick Trio (Jazz)
okay then people... thanks alot for taking my previous comment as an insult -the guy sings it well, but his voice just isn't the right one for the song the person that they have singing with the West Coast tour couldn't make the recording because he was in NYC in a broadway show
I was at that bar once many years ago but this year life and adeat will bring me back God bless you all
I Really can not wait to see them this December for the 5th time in a row!!!!! These are song that you can lesson to even if its not Christmas!!!!
Beautiful, doesn't get much better than this.
I can't even hear the first line before I am crying like a baby! What a show!!!!!
It was the first time I got to see them. I had the video and saw them on TV a few times and said to myself I got to go. I will now go every year
If i close my eyes and listen to this song, there are growing pictures from a nice little smoky pub and i wish i could be there. Thank you for the great song.
Awesome, awesome song....one of their best.
My dad sang this song last Christmas, there wasn't a dry eye in th church...listen to the words, maybe when you do, your mind will be changed

Incredibly AWESOME !!!
my favorite song of theirs
SteveBroderick hits every note so well that it delivers the message every time...
Always help one another and it will turn out for the better
Every year when I see them, this song always make me cry.
This song NEVER fails to make me sob.
i saw them last night here in mass
and it was sick
it was an amazing show..the lights and everything
and they did this exact thing
TSO always adds majesty to all the Christmas songs they interpret...thank you for posting :-)
This such an amazing song. Lyrics, melody.....
this song is deep for all of us bar flies both then and now
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that cries during this song. I've seen them 3 times and I'm always good, up to this song, then I lose it. It's so beautiful and meaningful.
favorite song in the whole show. everytime i hear it i just love it more and more.
thanks this is a grate song
This was my favorite singer of this song!!! It gives me chills beyond words.
This is the East Coast touring group, which I have never seen, but I think Bart Shatto from the West does a much finer job. Could also be the audio from the source camera. Great to see Alex Skolnick on guitar!

TSO rocks!
Forgot to ask, who is this singer?

countrygal0831 Steve Broderick. He left in 2009. He happens to be my grandma's friend's son. *complicated*
I swear......I get teary eyed everytime I hear this.
This is the only song to date that I have caught my step-dad crying to.
totally awesome song!
youre right about the bathroom break. my family went to the bathroom and i stayed back and i started crying by myself.
i think this version of old city bar is thw best ,,,,bart is awesome also
Bart Shatto is INCREDIBLE!!!
Still the best TSO vid, TY
I hear ya Scott...........Same here !
@tomm120 I agree with you. This song was 15 minutes for when i saw them last saturday. It put everyone to sleep!
i went to see them 2 years in a row and this song is soo amazing live. Although the whole show is awsome live but this one is neat
they're amazing im concert
I love TSO. this song is so pretty, the meaning is great.
Steve Broderick is one of the all time great rock vocalists.
heh i was there too. i went last year and will go next year. they put on one hell of a show. i actually like the way they sang it this year. his voice was more scratchy and bum-like than in this video lol TSO rules they can make it christmas in july

good song...
might i like to add that one of my mom's close friends is the singer for this song for the west coast TSO group (the one with the better musicians)
@Masticore317 He completely blew me away when I saw this back in 2009!
hey.. you need to get Bart Shatto singin this song... broadway actors tend to pull off the drunk bum angel very well...
hope to see one of him on her soon!
-friend or Bart

East coast has more original artists than West
If you ever go to a TSO show, there may be a homeless looking person on the street in front of the hall. This just may be your singer.
I beg ti differ with you on that. Steve Broderick has the best voice for this song. He's the one they should have used on the CD.
I love this song. But I've noticed in recent years that the singer (in the tour that hits Toronto) is putting more and more old drunk into the performance. It's funny, but it really detracts from the emotion. The perfect version is on the Dreams of Hope Unspoken live album.
I miss Savatage
@countrygal0831 Steve Broderick is the man!
Agreed kinkdaddy69!!

i agree with you. i saw them in chicago on the 26th, and this was the only part i didnt love. a little too long for my taste. everything else pwned though.
johnswencki, have you even heard Bart sing it?
Trent Reznor?
who is the guitar player????
the guitarist in this vid is Alex Skolnick . but he is not with TSO anymore . You can see him with his other bands Testament (metal) and The Alex Skolnick Trio (Jazz)
umm... sorry all you vocally declined people, but i have to agree with this one
@klinkdaddy69 I did it was unbelievable
Lol, you're a monster!
okay then people... thanks alot for taking my previous comment as an insult
-the guy sings it well, but his voice just isn't the right one for the song
the person that they have singing with the West Coast tour couldn't make the recording because he was in NYC in a broadway show
Potty break, brb.

Pretty good but Al Pitrelli and Bart Shato of the west tour do it better!!!!!!!
