Yeah, most don't know its concept album origins. Then again most that follow TSO don't know the band that started it all.
The Marines saw the damage the Devil inflicted upon Santa's workshop and the USMC Engineers rebuilt the Shop,Admin put the orders in for Supply to restock it, the Cooks made sure the coffee was hot and dinner on the way,Recon chased down the Devil and made him pay dearly.The USMC Reserves helped build the toys and other gifts and the Motor Transport made sure everything was delivered on time.And Christmas was saved! For anyone who wants to know the story of this song, I looked it up:
The city of Sarajevo was in a war with another city, in the middle of the Bosnian War, and his city was destroyed by his own people. Desperate to do something the old man would go to the highest place he could find, and play music on his cello, things like Mozart and Beethoven. A reporter went to try and find him and ask why he did such a crazy thing. He responded because it was his only way to show that there was still a little bit of humanity in the world.
The kid in the video was a victim of the genocide

And as for the girl it's highly unlikely, at least not from Bosnian war since video is from 2007 and she is not older than 10, so she wasn't even born at that time

I will never ever forget the first time I heard this song on the radio .....I was completely blown away... every time it came back on , I turned the radio all the way up... couldn't wait to hear that they were finally coming to Columbia South Carolina.. my wife and I had tickets on the third row... one of the most amazing Amazing concerts that I have ever ever seen and Believe Me brother I've seen a lot of them... This song by TSO LIVE changed my perception of music as just a freshman, starting marching band. The radio and recordings do no justice to witnessing this mastery in person. TSO's rendition has never left my brain and after longer than a decade I can still recall the chills hearing this for the first time with my own ears. If you ever get the chance, definitely experience it at least once.
If I went out to my backyard and Trans-Siberian Orchestra was performing, I would be totally cool with it.

The Trans Siberian Orchestra is a culmination of talented creative musicians, while spreading peace through very beautiful music. This is an awesome organization. They do a stupendous job of composing musical pieces, utilizing traditional orchestra instruments, and weaving more modern instruments such as electric guitars into the composition. The leadership has obvious talent and foresight. Trans Siberian Orchestra rocks.
I do appreciate the story with the historical perspective in the comments section on the war, and the playing of music.
You should look up Savatage’s album Dead Winter Dead… this song came off that album… TSO started as a side project by Jon Oliva who was also a founding member of Savatage.
I remember the first time I heard this song, I was in a music store in a mall , the first thing I said was WOW, who is this, I then immediately bought their CD, and never stopped listening to them since!
P.s. this also lead me to discover their original band Savatage

I've seen these guys twice. The second time I got all their autographs. This was while they were still unknown. They'd come out after the show and visit. It was wonderful.
Yep. Saw them way back when they were unknown, played small venues (Constitution Hall, DC) and didn't even have a laser. Pediford, Cerasano, Wood, Skolnick, Cella. The best. And yes, after the show they would hang with fans.
I've been following them for years even before they were Trans-Siberian Orchestra, when they were a rock band called Savatage. They always used to hang out after the shows. I got to meet them and hang out with them many times it was awesome!

Who would have ever thought a little known Metal band named "Savatage" from the 80's would create the huge success that TSO has become! Thanks Paul O'Neill and Jon Oliva for the inspiration, and having gotten to know you and your late brother Criss. He was an awesome human.
