I remember when I was asking the gal behind the counter at Blockbuster what new animes she'd recommend. She said there was a new anime called Serial Experiments Lain that she was really enjoying... Fuck me, I feel old. 😅
11:33 Every person is influenced both by reality and internet. The only difference is that we cannot exist in VR alone. I might have shaped my views because of what i have seen on the internet, however it does not change who I am fundamentally
When I published this video, I really wanted to take it down because it might come across offensive AND THAT IS NOT MY INTENTIONS AT ALL. I just want to present how this anime relates to real life. One thing i want to clarify with that i forgot to kind of mention in the video : There is no right or wrong way of looking at things. You choose what's right for you. This anime makes you think a lot of things about the internet and a most of it is existential crisis inducing stuff
The video topic itself is interesting, but I don't think we've watched the same anime at this point. Lain didn't have any of these points about losing yourself in the internet, it was more about existentialism and also her literally being God, which would not line up with any of your points to connect it to brainrot of all things. I feel like you made a bit of a reach with these points.
I think the interpretation of the anime is on the viewer. Your views are more of plot based and what I have said is more on what viewer can interpret from it. That existentialism itself is linked to her digital vs physical identity but in the anime it is done by using her surroundings and it's very subtle. There are scenes where Lain steps outside of her house and everything is blank, sometimes her sister and her family behave differently. Her becoming God is also to me is the opposite of what she was before getting Navi. Her personality change, events blending in the wired or bleeding in from wired to real life, her social life changes, people saying they have seen her but she never met them, her being judged without any reason was an indication of the influence of the wired. Those Gods and cults in the anime are also reflection of the prediction of digital identity worshipping and he becoming that God symbolizes her becoming an influential figure in the Wired. The brainrot connection is basically saying Lain predicted how people would behave after using the internet so it connects directly. All of these starts after her getting into the wired. The wired is the main driving point of this anime and this whole anime revolves around it. Hence why it also has a cyberpunk tag
And you don't seem to understand.......
A shame you seemed an honest man
And all the fears you hold so dear
Will turn to whisper in your ear
Ay, I got a Glock in my ‘rarri
I taught it had millions of views but then i checked it and was shocked. You deserve more.
Thank you
"Algorithms pull the string, and the wired exactly knows what you will watch..."
12:05 breaking the fourth wall got me spooked 😳😱🤯

Yea again imo your actions define your reality.

I am old enough to remember the "internet" in the late 90's. In hindsight, all the signs were there. Most of just did not see it at the time.
