This is another great recording by the Bert Ambrose orchestra from his days at His Master's Voice. The song features is the classic "Lullaby of the leaves" composed by Bernice Peterke and Joe Young.
One of the greatest and most beloved London orchestras of the late 1920s through the 1940s was without doubt (Bert) Ambrose's band whose 78rpms are still found in great quantity in Belgium today . Born in the east of London in 1896, Ambrose started his career in the USA before returning to London in 1922 when he was asked to play at the Embassy Club... His band soon became known for its elegant sound and superb arrangements. Vocalists with the band included Sam Browne, Kitty Carlisle, Evelyn Dall and most famously Vera Lynn.... He played not only at the Embassy Club but also at the May Fair Hotel (and seemed to alternate between these two venues) and recorded many sides for Brunswick, HMV and Decca... He retired from performing in 1940 but continued to make recordings.... Later on he decided to perform again but he suffered considerably from the demise of the big band era. He died in 1971.

Wonderful song, wonderful orchestra, wonderful vocalist - most favourite.
This is wonderful, one of my all time favorites.
Excellent tunes. Beautiful song!
Wunderschön. Vielen Dank für´s Einstellen.
Восхитительная песня и исполнение! Спасибо!
I have heard so many versions of this from Ella and Frank to Chet to Benny Goodman to the Ventures..and this remains my favourite ..I love the way it takes off in the middle..and the vocal..wow..so beautiful..
It's gorgeous isn't it! But have you heard the version by the Roy Fox band? That's my favourite. So atmospheric!
The best versions are the ones from the early '30s, the others sound too derivative.
These sound way more straightforward, melodic, magical and powerful.
Phil Spitalny, Adrian Schubert, Reginald King and Phil Harris also have exquisite versions.
Beautiful arrangement, lovely vocal, and greatly appreciate the detailed notes. Thanks!
what ab orchestra this was - the epitome of art deco elegance
A very good song, and pretty video-Thanks !

@gfks11 Thank you very much !
nice upbeat tempo for 32 in this number - most of the ones I heard were rather sombre.
Sing me to sleep lullaby of the leaves
Lyrics:
Cradle me, where southern skies, can watch me with a million eyes...
Sing me to sleep, lullaby of the leaves...
Cover me with heavens blue, and let me dream or two...
Sing me to sleep, lullaby of the leaves...
Im breezing along, along with the breeze...
I'm hearing a song, a song in the trees...
A pine melody creasing the shore...
_familiar to me I heard it before_
That's southland!
Don't I feel it in my soul?
Don't I know I reached my goal?
Sing me to sleep...
Lullaby of the leaves...
