      @divineeternity7268 , I think the simple answer is that the team was in a transition period the last 2 years. They still had players that were stuck in the Sean Payton era and were no longer "team 1st" types of players. It seemed like Michael Thomas, Jameis Winston, and a few others had their own clique and it was disruptive and counterproductive. Of course, this is all conjecture since I'm not in the lockerroom, but once it was clear that Olave was the new #1, and Carr was not going to be replaced by Winston, then things seemed to go much smoother.
      This year, with MT and Winston gone, and an entirely new offensive system, we may finally see what the new era will look like. There is plenty of talent there. If there is enough buy-in, then this team has a much higher ceiling than they're given credit for. Kamara and Olave also appeared to be part of that clique, but Olave was young and impressionable and Thomas was like a mentor. I think he realized he had an opportunity to be WR1, and Thomas wasn't really out for his best interests. I'm not sure about Kamara yet. While I understand his contract wants, I don’t think the timing and his production back up his position. ⚜️👍🏿

    • @divineeternity7268
      @divineeternity7268 4 месяца назад +2

      @@dl9232 Good choice of words. "Transition" 👍. You actually just mentioned something that Saints fans hated to admit 🤣. I think Dennis Allen knew and saw that there was conflict brewing up low-key 🤔. It actually crossed my mind "literally" yesterday that Winston being let go was GREAT for the team simply because the new players and even the new veteran editions could build chemistry with the new coaching staff and be more accepting to Carr as their leader. Carr seems to be much more comfortable according to insiders and I think he can lead this team the way his experience know how to.
      Even though it was all speculation, the way the team performed at times was as if they was 2 different teams. At times they seemed like they had all the talent in the world to do things but in those same moments it's like they was stubbornly stuck. It was enough to make you wonder "what the hell is going on with this team" as the video stated. Kamara has a "don't care personality" but he's always been that way and people knew he could be trusted with the tasks he was given so we'll have to wait and see because he did perform at a top tier level once upon time being who he is right now 🤷. The only reason I'm so head strong on luck is because I believe yes a good team can get by with good coaching, skills and talent. But at the same time a little luck can go a long way.
      I'm willing to bet Green Bay was thinking they was going to lose that game to us but they got their miracle and Blake Grupe missed a field goal that wasn't usually hard to make. Those hits that Carr took in week 1 and 2 dictated the outcome of that game as well because he got hit one and two more times too much at that point. But as usual I agree with you. 👍💯⚜️

    @FightrForLife 4 месяца назад +23

    As a Saints fan, I felt like there were 2 root causes for the drastic inconsistencies last season - stale, unimaginative playcalling, and lack of direction in the locker room. There were WAY too many locker room interviews where team leaders called for more personal accountability. A Cam Jordan quote to Rich Eisen from the first offseason DA became coach still rings in my ears... When asked what it's like to play for a defensive head coach as a defensive player, he said "When the defense wins in practice, we don't run it back." Which to me, seems like a terrible way to build confidence in your offense, and hobbles their abilities to overcome negative experiences/game situations. I think the last 5 games of the season were a peek at the potential offensive firepower of this team could generate... And the only thing that changed was play action and presnap motion! Really hoping that Klint Kubiak can breathe some life into the run game. Defensively, the secondary played lights out most of the time, but would end up getting so ran down from multiple 3 and outs and lack of QB pressure that they'd end up losing the close games.
    I think Kamara's useage depends on how this contract situation plays out... If they commit to him, I think they continue running him #1. I think even if they do extend him, but don't really commit, or just outright refuse to extend him, they'll be pushing Kendre to take the reigns. Kamara hasn't really lost a step as far as his ability to absorb arm tackles and keep rolling or making people miss, which is more of his calling card over his speed. He's just been used terribly by running inside zone behind a terrible line. I wouldn't shade him TOO hard, depending on the outcome of the contract situation.
    On Zack Baun - the guy should have been an edge rusher in a 3-4 defense from the jump... The sad part is, Vic Fangio has already said they plan to play Baun at inside linebacker.

      Personally, I thought that Carr yelling at the receivers then passing to where they were supposed to be on routes fixed some aspects of the offense & whether this was intentional or not, Allen watched this all play out in an effort to oust Carmichael. Allen may not know how to call offense, but I think he knew Carmichael was The Problem.
      Another thing: like the Steelers I think that Saints ownership meddles in who they hire as coaches sometimes, but quietly so we don't hear about it. So I think this is why it took seeing Carr fix Carmichael's plays on TV like that was necessary to get them to fire him.
      Team owners do Not Know what a good winning coach is or does. So they'll hire who they like instead.

    • @FightrForLife
      @FightrForLife 4 месяца назад +2

      @UsefulPreconceivedNotions Yeah, there were definitely a TON of smaller issues that didn't do them any favors... Personally, I thought if they were going to keep DA, they should have kept Carmichael too, so their fates were tied together. If they were absolutely terrible again, maybe they'd be bad enough for a high 1st round pick for a QB. Bringing in a new OC only extends DA's time and excuses. Although seeing him give interviews after Michael Thomas was out the building and he had a new OC made him look like a completely different person.

    • @UsefulPreconceivedNotions
      @UsefulPreconceivedNotions 4 месяца назад

      @@FightrForLife Thomas. _There_ was an unlucky guy. DA looks refreshed? Then perhaps Carmichael *was* part of the problems. However when you have lingering ones, the usual Real Problems are with those who hire the problems.
      NFL team owners are *business* owners. Tepper & Jerry Jones may fool themselves they know what they're doing, but the mentality of the majority is going to be to tamper quietly behind the scenes or not at all. & the tampering will be all Business-based decisions. Lawrence doesn't have to be a winner. His hair alone will fill seats. The Browns won't give up on Deshaun Watson. But they could have lit a fire under his ass/had their Best Back-up Option for a mid-round pick next year & forced him to improve or lose the starting position (Fields).
      From a business POV, doing so would seem like you were Giving Up On the business decision you spent all that $ on. So they won't consider it. Dumb business decisions. Same with the rising salaries. when your opponent raises the stakes you do the same or call them, but not doing either feels to them like failure so one stupid contract begets all the others.
      & they'll hire people they *like,* not necessarily good, winning coaches. Do they even know what makes one? So you end up with a lot of inept boobs who probably know how to schmooze their way to keeping their jobs.

    At the end of the day, the Saints lost the division on a 3rd tier tiebreaker to the Bucs.
    They were legitimately ONE game of Derek Carr not getting hurt Vs the Packers, up 17-0 away from hosting a playoff game & the Packers potentially missing the playoffs.
    The Klint Kubiak factor is the biggest “X Factor” for the Saints.
    If they can hit the ground running & if he can fix the run game & O-Line, the Saints could have a Top 5 offense & be looking at 12+ Wins.
    That’s actually more plausible than anyone wants to admit, considering the track record of OC’s from that scheme & the experience Klint Kubiak has gathered, being with Kyle last season and this being his 2nd time calling plays, he’s had that experience to hopefully make him better this time around.
    Also, the run the Saints had at the end of last season, with much improved Red Zone success had to do with Carr getting healthy AND they increased the amount of play action & motion they were using which really helped the entire offense play better!

    As a Saints fan I am a little frustrated, not with this season in particular but the development over the past years.
    After Brees left we could and SHOULD have broken it all up given up players like Lattimore, McCoy, Davis (all players I love) and others for draft capital and to get our Cap back in order and just completely redone everything.
    We missed that chance and now our Cap situation is still horrible and biting us in the ass and we have a weird situation where there are too many players that are declining in quality or just not good enough to contend however especially with Adebo & Olave it also feels like we have way too much young talent to just completely blow it off because I do not want to see these players leave. It leaves us in a weird place where we could be really underestimated and a dangerous dark horse, if the offense clicks and Carr finally plays a truly great season or be the same bottom feeder we were previously.

    Good nuanced breakdown on the category rankings. Some of those rankings probably aren't separated by much especially on a cupcake schedule. Making the Pats tap out 34 - 0 in week 5 is more on the Pats offense giving up than anything else. Hilariously enough much like how the QBS/Power score shed insight to the Falcons underachieving season, it does the same for the Saints in how they 'overachieved' in their season. That being said Saints still need to hit on a franchise LT. Also didn't realize the Saints had the same issue like the Bills did under Dorsey. Big EPA darlings with nothing to show for in red zone production.

If he stays healthy this year, he will take the number 1 franchise rushing spot this year WITHOUT even a 1k yd season and 2 years earlier than his predecessors.That's because he's consistent. On top of that, the o-line on Penning's side, wasn't that great for the first half of the season and he needed help. He is NOT slowing down. That's just plainly incorrect. Same with Cam Jordan. The Saints O-line struggled at the beginning of the season and the offense couldn't find an identity under Pete Carmichael. Carr was often playing injured due to poor pass protection, Kamara missed the first 4 weeks, they couldn't run the ball, and the timing wasn't very good in the passing game. They kinda turned it around at the midway point and the defense played well all season. If the O-line improves over last season (Trevor Penning particularly) Kubiaks offense will set this team up for success with the weapons they have they could look alot like last years SF team.

    The thing is, people were pissed at Greg Schiano all those years ago, because he was telling his players to try to break through when the offense was kneeling down when the unwritten rule is that when they're just taking a knee, the game is over and basically just a formality and you're not supposed to treat it as a normal play. If you do, and the offensive guys aren't expecting that, it's kind of cheap (and an injury risk).
    But of course the flip side of that is, if the defense is supposed to let them take the knee if they're going to take the knee, the offense should actually take the knee.

    The salary cap is only real if you believe in it. The cap has never made it so they couldn't get/keep the players they want. However, they have made bad choices on who to keep/pursue.
    Pete Carmichael can only function with Sean Payton or Drew Brees. He is why Alvin's stat's suck. Any Shanahan/Kubiak offense will make him ball out. I don't do fantasy, but I expect to hear people talking about this as a comeback.

      Most quarterbacks with poor offensive lines are bad in the red zone. In 2016, when Carr had a great offensive line, he was top 10 in the red zone. Quarterback play doesn't happen in a vacuum and Carr has had bottom 5-10 offensive lines most of his career.

    The Winston-Williams shenanigans vs. the Falcons was just a showcase of childish immaturity on behalf of the player and the coach, but could absolutely have been predicted based on Winston's overall body of work. You don't put him on your team or in the game unless you're comfortable with him doing something foolish and stupid. But the coach should have kept his temper and dealt with it behind the scenes (including getting rid of him in the off season). Letting the whole world know that your entire team (not just the QB) ignored your calls and you lost shiat publicly about it just makes you look like a kid having a tantrum.

Guess i gotta hope somehow this “competitive rebuild” leads to the team being ready except for a qb in the next 1-2 years but i don’t have much faith in that but we do have couple of exciting units and a young players to look towards to this year
    let’s see if the defensive robotic head coach who is an amazing defense play caller and looks to be lacking in the head coach spot can work with a young offensive coordinator if it does then at least it’s a start which feels like we still don’t know if we are starting a rebuild or continuing the delusional stretch of thinking we can win
