I agree. He struggled at times last season and casual NFL fans just want to credit him for the Bucs offence when in fact Mayfield is good and they have one of the best WR duos in the game.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers - one of the most volatile team histories in the league. A 1976 expansion laughingstock that was mostly terrible for 20 years, then in the late 90's they catch a heater and go to the playoffs a bunch and win it all in 2002, then rapidly drop off into obscurity again for over a decade, then pop right back up again on another heater and get Brady and win another in 2020. There are some ancient and storied teams in the NFL that haven't even won ONE superbowl (Minnesota) and Tampa has 2. Their swings from awful to great and back and forth are certainly entertaining.

I'm a Bucs fan, and I thought they'd struggle in the rungame last year. But, that didn't mean I thought they'd suck. They had their struggles with a new O. On D, coach Bowles went into a certain D style mode because a safety we thought would be good didn't work out. Then there's the whole Devin White thing. I think we'll see the real Todd Bowles D this year. Bucs O might take a while to learn the new O. But, both the new O-Coordinator and Baker Mayfield have dived into the playbook earlier. So, I don't think it'll take them that long to get the O going. But, there might be a game or two early that the O is not clicking on all cylinders.
That Dline during the superbowl run and the year after is why Bowles could be confident to sit back and let the dawgsss up front eat. JPP Vea Suh Barret were on fire and in snyc. I feel this year will be a close rendition of that DLine. With how good kancey and Diaby looked in the final games of the season and playoffs.
No love for the cap wizard Mike Greenberg. But yeah even amongst Bucs fans Licht gets too much hate. He has some big notable draft misses but he has a lot more hits and has been great in the middle rounds. I was thrilled when they extended him
The title may be misleading but it definitely felt like it in 2023. From being written off as a potential draft lottery team to start the season (I know I did). To grinding for the top of the NFC South by the middle of the season. The stretch of winning (easy) games in December were HUGE for them to pull away and punch their ticket to the playoffs. Also good insight by EJ about Liam Coen being on that Rams staff on Baker's short stint there. At the very least Baker will once again have some continuity to help run the offense.
The Buccaneers do have some good talent on both sides of the football. It’s mostly depends if Baker Mayfield can show everyone that last season wasn’t a hit wonder.
Disagree about the D scheme. Due to VV struggling to stay healthy and JTS being unmotived with 2 rookies on d-line, bucs had no pressure rating. At all. Actually they really only had 2 players on defense, stars though they were. They don't get sacks, stops, and give up a lot more big play TDs playing a different style.
Here is the thing Alstott could catch the ball very well. Power back who can also lead block and catch the ball? That 100% is a dominate player in the league.
It's all about Baker. If Tampa gets the 2018/2020/2023 version of Baker, they'll probably be pretty good. If they get the 2019/2021/2022 version, they won't be.

As a Bucs fan I wish you broke down the coverage problems of Devin white, ryan neal and the consistent secondary issues that DROVE Todd Bowles ultra aggressive blitz rate. Brian Flores and Mike McDonald are both essentially students OF Todd bowles and Belicheck. Except they had infinitely better and more consistent safety play from the duo as a whole.
Dolphins fan, this is why I wanted baker and they basically copy and pasted Miami's Run game with many of the same passing concepts. Like the Buc but I'll still bet on the falcons talent this season
Todd Bowles is just defensive bruce arians and i fucking love that i love playing football like that and i was so happy when they were hired all my favorite people become bucs Djax Brent Grimes Revis Vincent Jackson that bengals receiving back Richard Sherman Logan Ryan Suh JPP i loved them all before they joined the bucs, oh and Thomas was a pretty decent signing too
Alstott's the man. Along with Derrick Brooks, Warren Sapp, John Lynch, Ronde Barber, Lavonte David, and Mike Evans. Let's add Tristan Wirfs, Yaya Diaby, Antoine Winfield and Chris Godwin among many others too. LFG BUCS!!! Jalen McMillan is going to be a star.
I’ve got to disagree with your assessment of how Bucs fans feel about Cohn. The fans think Cohn is an upgrade at OC. They also think that it should be a pretty smooth transition because of similar coaching schemes. Same goes for OL, TE and run and pass game coordinators.
if Barton can open some holes up for White and Bucky Irving, Bucs run game should be solid. it all depends on Graham Barton and how he works as a center in the league. i thought they should have shown Evans the door and used that money to go after a punishing rb like Derrick Henry, but Jason Licht sees something in Irving that i don't, and he's the GM, not some douche on his computer in central Oklahoma.
And I KNOW everyone looks back with rose colored glasses but for the first HALF of there year (more or less)...the offense was TERRIBLE. I know Canales gets his roses NOW....but the Buc offense was AWFUL for the majority of the season. They came to life at the END of the season. The last 5 games or so. It's to be expected of course but let's not get out of pocket here. Lets not pretend that that offense was good. The TALENT allowed them to win games they shouldn't have. MIN in week 1 is an example. This year should be similar. They're gonna struggle early (new OC). We'll see how it goes..
Regarding their Effectiveness Summary - this is the final NFC South team, and after the strange stats coming out of Atlanta and the Saints, maybe we're seeing a bit of a pattern here? The NFC South teams each played 6 games vs. the rest of the NFC South which was awful, so their defensive and offensive stats seem to misrepresent how bad they are, because they played a lot of bad teams (each other).
My bucs lost more than gain in free agency the draft was ok at best jalen and bucky were the diamonds in the rough. If they pull it off this year its because baker and bowels did work.
Canales run concepts made the interior look worse than they were, not that they were good. He did some good and some bad. I hated the rote playcalling. Our record couldve been better if not for that and defensive injuries.
So , if Todd's D doesn't have a counterpunch for the blitz package it will remain the same outcome thus season... wide open throws in mid field until opposition reaches redzone...this cannot happen with this monster offense... Todd will be exposed by our own OC first few preseason games...
Tampa won the division on a tie breaker! Saints and Bucs are even then and still even. Tampa was a good team. They won a playoff game. Baker has always been good
The buccaneers all time defense goes blow for blow with anybody else's all time great safety DT CB 2 all time great LBs technically prime Darrell Revis was a buccaneer for one season, imagine trying to run the football against Warren Sapp Vita Vea Lee Roy Selmon the other 2000s edge who's name evades me like Superbowl rings evade the falcons, Derrick Brooks Lavonte David Rondé barber John Lynch Antoine Winfield JR and some combination of our other corners who were great for some stretch of time, I don't think any team has more players over 1000 solo tackles than the bucs, Brooks Barber and David, Brooks is probably the best coverage lb of all time and David isn't far behind
Was Shaq Barrett not a not able loss? (Note: not a Bucs fan so dont know how his role has changed on the team, just feel like i hear his name around the team alot)
Not really. We bucs fan love shaq he was part of the reason why we won superbowl but last season he came off a Achilles injury and had like 3 sacks plus he's like 32 years old. Wasn't very productive at all last year.
Bucs had 80 million in dead cap also...You cant dismiss the blitzing by looking at statistics...I watched the games...They couldn't get any pressure with 4...They had to blitz to try and save their DB's from covering for 5 seconds and getting gassed and beaten worse. You are so misinformed...Bowles didn't lay off blitzing the year they won the SuperBowl...1 game they played that way for a specific team...They were 5th in blitz percentage in 2020...Dont get on and spout nonsense to form a narrative that isn't true...Nobody thinks Licht only won because of Brady besides talking heads and NFC south rivals...17 of 22 starters in the Bucs Super Bowl were drafted by Licht...

The Tampa Bakerneers are based, I’m very excited for next season. Will be tough at times but this team has some real potential.
Todd Bowles is just defensive bruce arians and i fucking love that i love playing football like that and i was so happy when they were hired all my favorite people become bucs Djax Brent Grimes Revis Vincent Jackson that bengals receiving back Richard Sherman Logan Ryan Suh JPP i loved them all before they joined the bucs, oh and Thomas was a pretty decent signing too
Get ready for some well respected special teams Bucs fans!!
1:11:18 So now the division will definitely come down to Carolina and New Orleans
34:38 cmon Brett. I’ve been coaching longer than we’ve been to the moon. (I started last year; we never went)
I’ve got to disagree with your assessment of how Bucs fans feel about Cohn. The fans think Cohn is an upgrade at OC. They also think that it should be a pretty smooth transition because of similar coaching schemes. Same goes for OL, TE and run and pass game coordinators.
Mike Evans is first ballot HoF. I'm not even a bucs fan but that dude is the next best to Megatron in the league. And consistent AF
Imagine alstott on philly now days, or even san fran. He would slay
Also good depth at olb
Did they talk about Calijah Kancey? Yall know hes gonna be all pro this year right?
if Barton can open some holes up for White and Bucky Irving, Bucs run game should be solid. it all depends on Graham Barton and how he works as a center in the league. i thought they should have shown Evans the door and used that money to go after a punishing rb like Derrick Henry, but Jason Licht sees something in Irving that i don't, and he's the GM, not some douche on his computer in central Oklahoma.
Kings of the NFC South
Canales run concepts made the interior look worse than they were, not that they were good. He did some good and some bad. I hated the rote playcalling. Our record couldve been better if not for that and defensive injuries.
Alstott Brooks Sapp Barber Rice Lynch Dunn! Bucs were smash mouth football in the most physical era!
I knew both of you would pick against Bucs...what did I say
...all that talk meant diddly squat...go Bucs!
So , if Todd's D doesn't have a counterpunch for the blitz
package it will remain the same outcome thus season...
wide open throws in mid field until opposition reaches
redzone...this cannot happen with this monster offense...
Todd will be exposed by our own OC first few preseason games...
Kalen deloach will be the other starting ILB next to Lavonte
Tampa won the division on a tie breaker! Saints and Bucs are even then and still even. Tampa was a good team. They won a playoff game. Baker has always been good
How will Baker perform without Canles when seen what happened toHurts and Josh when they dude left it matters
Ah yes, the Bucs, the team that has taken all the players I wanted the Browns to take instead since 2020...
Alstott needs to be in the HOF
"We just gotta block it up!" said every team except Philly lmao
wearing a saints hoodie and talking about the bucs is insane and inexcusable.
ironic for Brett to say you cant compare people to Lavonte David when he thinks every college player is gonna be a HoFer in draft szn
Facts
Spent half the video glazing Lavonte David 😂
Was Shaq Barrett not a not able loss?
(Note: not a Bucs fan so dont know how his role has changed on the team, just feel like i hear his name around the team alot)
Not really. We bucs fan love shaq he was part of the reason why we won superbowl but last season he came off a Achilles injury and had like 3 sacks plus he's like 32 years old. Wasn't very productive at all last year.
Think about this, mike evans and odell was in the same draft
Why has no one tried to flip devin white to a 3-4 outside linebacker???
Eat your heart out, Cleveland. You had your guy, and it STILL wasn’t good enough for you.
Is Brett Kollman a Grateful Dead fan?
I'll give you the comp!!!! But also thx for underrating the buccs once again!!!!
Still praying that one day Antoine Winfield jr will be a Steelers
