    As a lifelong saints fan this is painful but facts. There’s nothing to be excited about these next few years. All great teams fall apart at some point, but the slow death of the Brees-era roster is much more painful than if they just ripped the band-aid off and had young exciting players.

      Is MT one of them “painful” losses? He was a cancer that needed to go and they were better off last year after he got hurt.
      The Saints have a good mixture of old and young players. Davis is still playing at a high level. Cam fell off some because of injuries last year. Matthieu is at the last stage of his career but he is valuable as a leader (unlike MT) and he was instrumental in convincing Chase Young in coming to the Saints.
      And Kubiak will revitalize the offense even more and is so excited to have a proven franchise QB with great arm talent in Carr to throw to those young receivers.

      @@geoffhoutman1557 Carr just turned 33 March 28. Get to know your QB. In 8 years he will be 41. If Carr wants to he can still be playing into his 40’s.
      Another interesting Carr fact is this. They say a good QB is supposed to elevate his team. This is true, but he can only take his team so far. For instance, the most number of games that any team has won with a defense that gave up at least 30 points a game was 5. Carr won 8 games with the Raiders in 2020. That year the Raiders defense was historically bad. They gave up 30+ points a game average and had less sacks and turnovers than the 82 Lions.
      This just in. Football is a team sport. The best 3 pure passers back in my day were Marino, Moon and Fouts. Between the 3 of them they have no SB victories. If all it took was a great QB to win it all, Marino would have at least 10 SB’s.
      And Saints fans ought to know this. Y’all think Brees walked on water and he only has one. In fact the Peyton/Brees golden era that y’all look back with such nostalgia that you think they did nothing wrong and judge DA off of it when he has a 9-8 season - that Payton/ Brees era had 3 straight 7-9 seasons, another 7-9 and a 8-8 season.

    As a Saints fan I agree with pretty much everything. I do think bringing in Klint Kubiak as OC will add a lot of juice to the offense, but we have to address the OL and we may have to draft 2 players if RR can't play. I wanted us to be able to make a luxury pick like Bowers or Brian Thomas if they fell to 14, but that's sadly no longer an option even if it does happen.
    What's crazy is our OL finished top 3 in sacks allowed but still graded out very badly. They got better during the last stretch of the season but were still atrocious early on.

    As a longtime Saints fan, I have to say, I think the biggest problem is Dennis Allen. He is a good DC but a terrible HC, and he really dug his own grave when he apologized to the Falcons and threw his players under the bus for that final touchdown. For the players, that has to be the most demoralizing thing and would just make you hate the coach. Derek Carr is obviously capable of being a good (maybe not great) QB and can throw some crazy deep passes. Just look at his time with the Raiders. If he can get back to that form and we fire DA, we'll be OK. Let's get rid of Loomis while we're at it. Anyone who uses first round picks on Trevor Penning and Peyton Turner shouldn't be an NFL GM. Plus, I find his total faith in DA disturbing.

      @@koby1488 That right there is the most casual fan perspective someone can have. Needs everything around him to be good to produce?
      So, what about Mahomes? He had Kelce, Hill, and a top 10 OL when he won MVP. Also arguably the brightest offensive mind the NFL has ever seen as OC. This year he didn't have Hill, and his Numbers fell off a cliff. He still won the SB tho, bc KC has an elite defense. Replace that defense with a mediocre one, and KC goes 8-8 based on Mahomes level of play. So does he need everything good around him? How do you know? He's never not had it.
      Great QB's are in great situations. All of them. Give any QB a terrible defense, and they won't win. If they have a terrible defense for long enough, they won't be seen as elite. That's exactly what happened to Carr. Through the 9 years he played with the Raiders, he only had one defense finish as a top 20 defense, and it finished exactly 20th. The rest were all worse. Much worse. The saints defenses from '14-'16 weren't as bad as Carrs average defense with Raiders. That's how bad they were. Carr is actually only the 2nd QB in NFL history to win more than 7 games with a defense giving up 30+ PPG. Both teams won 8 games.
      Throughout Brady's career, his average defense ranked 7th best. That means I'm any given year, Brady was on a team with a nearly elite defense. THAT'S why he was so successful. BB was great at drafting and coaching defenses. Brady is the luckiest QB alive. Yeah, he was good, but there have been much better QB's who had the opposite luck. Marino was light years better than Brady and didnt win a single SB. Why? The teams around him. That's it. That's why only casual fans make the argument that a QB needs a great situation to be good. All QB's need a great situation to be successful. If it isn't, they aren't very successful, end of story.

    • @jessegardner134
      @jessegardner134 2 месяца назад

      That's not true at all. Carr broke his fibula in '16 and then his back in '17. He was at his absolute best in '19 and '20, and was on pace to shatter the NFL passing record by 2k in '22 until losing Gruden and Ruggs inevitably caught up to him.
      What we saw in '21 was Carr playing at an elite level, bc he had weapons and had been in the same systems for a few years. That means his ceiling is elite level, it's the team around him that's been holding him back.
      That being said, Carr and the saints are about to go on one hell of a 3-5 year run, assuming the can draft well enough to sustain it. You'll see.

    • @koby1488
      @koby1488 2 месяца назад

      @@jessegardner134 Idek why you're arguing with me. I'm a raiders fan and I I've had the pleasure and misfortune to watch carr. Your using other quarterbacks to compare him when all you need to do is watch him. He can't escape pressure that's undeniable, he doesn't extend the play, goes for checkdowns way to much. He limits the offense in a lot of ways. Like I said carr is good, but not great. He will only be as good as the team around him. It's not a casual take to say carr is bad and he needs a good team to be good. He had a good defense this year. I even forgot to mention he doesn't show up in the important games. Last year he was disappointing and he will this year to. I know carr enough for him to prove me right.

      I initially thought the same. What changed was the game where Carr started 1) throwing to where the receivers *_should_* have been & 2) yelling at them about who knows what during the game as Allen looked on. 2, 3 weeks later the offense clicked.
      Carr was doing what his teammates like about him, Taking Charge like a QB should. & Allen _watched it play out_ & now Carmichael is gone? _Think_ about it.
      This team has needed to restart for years. Payton wasn't afraid to do it. He's doing it now in Denver at a way higher cost than what it would take for the Saints. We never know how much input owners who aren't vocal like Irsay or Jerry Jones have, but it seems obvious to me that the Saints owners are limiting what their coaches can do.
      Allen let it play out possibly to show ownership what a dud Carmichael was. If _Allen_ is forced to take on coaches he doesn't like or want, then it's likely Payton's hands were tied when there too. I realize that even at his best & in synch with the offense they're not winning the S-B with Carr, but he may have done something that will help the team, making it clear they are floundering. So clear even the obstinate owners might come to realize it.

He will be our dark horse at WR

    • @jessegardner134
      @jessegardner134 2 месяца назад

      Yeah, this guy has to be a pessimist. Saints pass game was one of the best in the NFL over the last 6 games, and that was with the worst run game in the NFL. Carr proved he could carry the offense if need be, and look awesome doing it (once he got comfortable in the system).
      Saints defense is still good too. Not elite, but still top 10. That more than enough to contend if the offense plays well......and seeing that Carr already has timing built with his WR's, it shouldn't be long before the passing game is playing at an elite level again.
      This dude is seriously sleeping on Carr. Oh, and that BS that Carr didn't have a lot of suiters is complete hogwash. He had visits with 4 teams before visiting the saints, and 4 more scheduled for after. He met with the Jets, Carolina, Washington (I believe) and Chicago. He also had meetings set up with Seattle and Indy. I might be getting those mixed up, but he had plenty of interest.

  • @SteelKreel
    @SteelKreel 2 месяца назад +1

    My best prediction going into this last season was that both the Raiders and Saints would end the year with similar records and miss the playoffs. Carr is a perfect fit for the what the Saints were last season. I saw it for 9 years on the Raiders. One game he looks like a top 5 QB. The next, he looks like he doesn't know wtf he's doing

    • @jessegardner134
      @jessegardner134 2 месяца назад

      Carr lead the NFL in TD passes over the last 6 games last year, while also throwing the fewest picks. He was playing as well or better than any QB in the NFL over that stretch, despite having the worst run game in the NFL. That means he carried saints offense, and if you watched the games, you know that's true.
      Like any QB who switches teams, Carr needed time to adjust to the new system and WR's. Combine that with no run game at all and a terrible OL, and that explains the saints offense over the 1st half of the season. What Carr did in the 2nd half was elite, and he did it against a bunch of really good defenses too.
      Don't worry tho, Carr is about to get that respect back that the Raiders took from him with their terrible teams and incompetent coaching.

He wasn't a great DC with the Broncos, wasn't a very good HC with The Raiders and has provided no identity for the Saints .... Stats about finishing in the Top 10 in O and D look nice on paper, but when you have a schedule like they did, the stats will reflect that ....
