    "Mice on Venus" has to be one of the greatest on the record. Simply put, it's nostalgic and beautiful, yet powerful, sad and weird. I feel like this one particularly enhances the gameplay and the general experience of actually enjoying Minecraft as a whole. The instrumentation on this tune has always made my time on this game truly special. No other game soundtrack has had the same impact on the player's lives than Minecraft, and I deeply think that Mice on Venus is one of the reasons why.

    • @althealligator1467
      @althealligator1467 3 года назад +3

      It's not "like" that, it literally is that. The pentatonic scale is the heptatonic scale with its semitones removed, so it's a LOT less dissonant. The only two chords you can make with the pentatonic scale are the tonic chords, Ionian and Aolian. You're always home in pentatonic.

    A vamp is perfect to describe Minecraft. We are always looping back to our base for whatever reason, we are respawning over and over, our worlds stretch out indefinitely, there are a trillion possibilities, and much more can be said about the feeling of restlessness. As Leonardo Da Vinci said, "Art is never finished, only abandoned".

    As an engineer, your "formulas" approach to extended chords is really interesting and makes more sense to me than just reading the whole chord. This video just gives me fcking vibes from back to 2016, when I started playing Minecraft Singleplayer...I built houses, got dogs and died over and over again trying to kill Jean...(the Ender Dragon)...and after achieving that, I got on and built more and more stuff...
    Then I lost my world because my PC just got a virus.
    I stopped playing Minecraft for about a year or something.
    My friends on Discord got me back to it; I started playing Multiplayer, PvP, Bedwars and so on.
    But this video makes me want to create a new Singleplayer World and just play some chilled hours of Minecraft while listening to that amazing ambient and calm music.
    Thanks, Charles, those memories are pure gold!

    I don't have to music background to know what or why something is good, but to me alpha is a musical masterpiece. I feel like the song tells a complete, complex story without any words.
    Also intro perfectly captures the pure bliss that come from being fully immersed in a world. I love how toward the end the track builds until it nearly overwhelms you and sweeps you away, but then just.. leaves you.. leaving a memory of 'something that isn't quite joy', to quote Jacob geller. Also in the beginning hearing daniels clothes rustling and the mechanics of a piano makes me feel like I am in the room with the artist. Nothing makes a song more personal to me than evidence of music's physical creation.

Is absolutly the most beautiful song in the game that takes you on an absolute ride of emotion and brings in tunes of tons of classic Minecraft tunes and makes them sound so much happier or sadder than the original tunes. A song that will still sometimes get me to tears.

    I spent a year at the James Morrison academy. One of the things that I remember the most was how he described major 6/9 chords. He used the term "pastoral". It stood out to me because I've never really heard the word be used before, ever. It essentially refers to the atmosphere of a countryside or farmland - a rustic and peaceful environment.
    The use of gentle pentatonic melodies (which are essentially 6/9 chords but horizontal) in Minecraft matches up with this description flawlessly. I think it's that "pastoral" sound that truly helps you lose yourself in such a relaxing world. And c418 wrote these in his early 20s? Some insane talent.

    One thing about the maj7add9 chord: because there is no third in this particular version of the chord, the 'proper' way to notate it would be maj7sus2 (so, in the case of Sweden, Gmaj7sus2). Of course, you could also write Gmaj9(no3) (the (no3) specifies that there is no third), or D/G, which, although harmonically questionable, is probably the easiest to read for someone who's used to playing slash chords.
