    Nice honest review. I've driven the sled and have truly enjoyed it. As a 2-Stroke rider I was impressed with this unit. The "Modes" work well, especially for the Novice rider included children. With approximately 20lbs difference only in the weight this is a great 4-stroke (Compared to the 2-stroke 600 ETEC). No oil, long life engine, great on fuel.....this should be a winner for Ski-Doo!!!

    I am enjoying my 900 ACE Renegade much more than my Polaris 600 Rush. The 900 ACE is very quick, responsive, and powerful. Low and Mid Range, I feel, has more power than the 600 2-stroke. Once you go over 60mph, however, you do feel the shortcomings of the engine. I would still choose this engine over a 600 any day though. I love it.

    Perfect sled for NY trails. 15-60 mph is where you ride all day long. You need the torque to get you from corner to corner in the NY twisty trails. And it is quiet and not fatiguing to ride. Want to race your buddies on the lake? Go buy a different machine.

      See my reply above. This exact same engine in the PWC market is making 109hp on a reflash on pump gas. Turbo kits are getting to 130hp easily and when pushed nudging 200hp.

    I know this is an older post.. But will changing the gearing to match that of 90hp two strokes from the 90's give you 100mph at wot. or match the power of the 650cc 2strokes of years gone by?

    Not being biased but I rode with one today and My Polaris IQ Turbo LXT can spank it very easily. My buddy let me ride it and the handling is awesome and suspension spot on. I might have to go this way if Polaris drops the 4 stroke from their line up. As of right now that is on the table unless they are hiding the unveil of a more efficient non turbo 4 stroke. And they have some competition out there for sure....

    To all the bashing back and forth on Yamaha vs Ski-doo 4 strokes:
    There are plus's and minus's to both mfg's in this arena. IMHO the Ski-Doo has the nicer riding and handling chassis when you compare the ACE 900 to a Phazer 500. As for the engines, Yamaha has a 2 hole 500 efi that makes around 80 HP, the Doo has one more hole and 400 more cc's to make 10 more HP. No question that Yamaha is the leader in 4 stroke engine tech....and to the Scandinavian that thinks the 500 Yamaha is an unreliable motor....not sure where you have been but you are wrong.What Yamaha could use is a more trail rider friendly chassis with a good ride and wind protection, storage...etc. Another thing I prefer on all Yamaha's are their clutches and belt endurance. The Doo's clutching stinks in comparison to a Yamaha as does Cat and even Polaris...the once leader in this arena. The reverse cam secondary is easy to tune, take apart, long lasting and easy to change belts on even though changing belts is rare on a Yamaha. They easily last 5,000 plus miles and cost about 1/2 to 1/3 of the competition. Most people can't deny Yamaha has the engines, but I have to agree that Doo has the ride and chassis. The only thing is their bulkheads can't take a hit like a Yamaha and tear apart like paper. There is a price to pay for lightness. I have a friend who's neighbor bought a 900 ACE Renegade and he did ride it recently. He did say the 900 is real peppy in the woods and keeps right up with a 600 Doo 2 stroke until you hit a long straight away or a lake. The wireless throttle is cool too allowing you to spin the lever any which way for your comfort.

    I'm very confused with how this gets such low horsepower for a 900cc four stroke. I came off a 2010 Yamaha Phazer rated at 80 HP with only 500cc. It is interesting that the fuel consumption is similar with the two engines at low- to mid-20s. I guess it's all relative.

    • @brandenjoseph604
      @brandenjoseph604 5 лет назад

      Lol.... Yamaha doesn't even make 4 stroke snowmobiles you Homer. They are an engine builder and they shove it into a Textron/cat chassis and slap some stickers on it. Not only that, but the buyers have spoken. Ski Doo sells so many more 4 stroke snowmobiles than both Arctic cat and Yamaha combined that it isn't even fair. Please, enlighten everybody and explain why they should just stick with yamaha.

    • @vectraB97
      @vectraB97 6 лет назад +1

      Brad Van 85mph isn't slow. dirtbike tracks are usually designed to keep the average speed below 37.3mph. speed is relative. It depends on the surface you drive on and what you feel comfortable with. falling of the sled in 85mph could hospitalize anyone for weeks, death accident isn't unlikely. I crashed a 500cc dirtbike in 40mph. it wasn't comfortable at all. The rear frame on my dad's dirtbike had to be straightened out with a truck crane. I belive it was a 1986 ktm 500cc with chromoly steel frame. I couldn't keep the rear wheel planted out of the corner, so it wobbled over the bumps and sent my flying sideways of the bike. It knocked the air out of my lungs. since I landed on the chest. it felt like 30 seconds where I couldn't breathe. LOL. I did ride the next week and I didn't go to any doctor because I only felt a little beat up all over.
