Beautiful, can’t believe I haven’t seen this before. Listening to this is like finding yourself on a little island of tranquility amidst a sea of madness.
This is not just the best video recording left by Kevin Ayers on RUclips. It is the best thing on RUclips full stop. And it is, in my opinion, the best outstanding recording of the best song Kevin Ayers ever wrote.
I still own my vinyl copy of Joy of a Toy, since 1976 or so, Hearing this without the clarinet part makes me realise what a great song it is., RIP Kevin.
Congratulations! Outstanding soundtake and intelligent camera work. Thanks for posting such a clean job. Not to mention the magic of the music, of course.
Thanks for sharing this greatest version ever; absolutely gorgeous solo indeed. For those who find it too distracting : a mono transfer will get rid of most of audience noise . Btw,the complete gig would be a wonderful thing!
Hi. What a FAAANTASTIC video. Probably the best Ayers live video i've seen here. Do you think you can put the rest up soon? This is far too good to not be seen :-)
I once directed a play called "Veronica's Room" by Ira Levin, which is set in immediate aftermath of the 60's, and it's about a young lady who is basically lured into a room because she was told by the caretakers of an old house that she bears an uncanny resemblance to a girl who grew up at the house (Veronica). Horrific things occurred thereafter... but anyway, music of the period was used just a little during the performance and in the preshow music. But I was not familiar with this song, which is unfortunate because it perfectly encapsulates the themes of the play, whilst adding to the sense of mystery. Or it "bears an uncanny resemblance" to the play, if you will.
Thank you for sharing such a special performance. Did they do May I? & if so, may I ask for a peak, please? Rockin Peace Mr. Ayers leave the stares behind
I wish somebody could remove or filter the chattering of the people on the background. Its such a pity , the can not shut up with such beautiful music.

Estupenda versión y el sonido es magnífico. Gracias!
Nice backing i thought the drummer did a great sensitive accompaniment and the guitarist too. One of the best lady rachel versions.. miss Kevin.

@wacksworks got any of the rest of the set?
Is this an official release or a multi cam bootleg??
@wacksworks care to upload it?
Nice, too bad he's singing off key a lot
In fairness, he was never a fantastic singer. In his own words, he just "speaks tunefully".
