I’m only 14 years old looking into trucks. I’ve seen many like the raptor, ram, and all those but I have decided to go with the tundra. Because of its price is way better than its competition. My dream is to build it all black, with a 8 inch lift kit in it too.
Beautiful truck. I'm currently waiting on my black 2018 tundra plat to get finished up from the dealership with a 4" lift, some duratracs and fuel wheels. The only thing I would have changed on your build is the fender flares to match your offset. I feel the paint job is going to suffer because of the difference in offset. Here in Canada its law to extend the body to meet the rubber.
Matt Pink Thank you, you are absolutely right, the rocks will take their toll. I thought about that when I did it but it is the trade off you make when you put the mud terrains on it like I did. Whether I get them from my tires or other peoples tires I know I am going to get them. Think when that happens I will get it wrapped. Send me a link once you have yours done. Bet it will look great.
Gorgeous truck man! I would only change one thing and that would be to get amp research power steps. This truck is a damn beast though. Hard to kill a Toyota. This baby will take care of you
Thank you. You know at the time I wanted them but Toyota told me they changed the way the Tundra's wiring was and that AMP Research had not updated their steps to work with the 2018 so I figured I would wait. I will tell you that I did not think I would like the factory steps but they really do protect the side of my truck from what the larger tires throw up.
Rick sounds like the Toyota dealer is not much help, I would locate another one close to you that has done leveling kits and/or lifts that will recalibrate your truck for you. They are out there, you just have to find one
Sir this is a very nice Unit but what part was built? I have a 2013 crew max 6 inch on 35’s and I don’t remember a build. I didn’t even mount the tires and wheels.. it’s a lot more bought than built😎
Thank you, the fab mod was the finders behind the front tires so that the tires would not go up into the back part of the fenders during turns. This part of the fenders were cut and modded.
Nice set up. I have a 2015 looking at a bds 7 inch. Been researching for 8 months now. I have the truck built on paper . Still going back an fourth on rims. My question is ,,, did you go with the basic kit or did you go coil overs ?? Trucks getting done in feb ...
79medic Thank you. You know I was going to go with the same BDS kit but decided on the Ready Lift 8” to get extra clearance because it the wheel/tire combo. Even with everything done, we had to do fab work on the truck & front bumper to get the clearance. The ride is still amazing with everything on it. I also saved a lot going with this kit.
toytun18 Hey bro. I spent all day at the truck store actually putting 8 months worth of work actually on a work order. 12,859.00 later I am awaiting my build. All specs were confirmed with bds. One question. Who makes your pocket style fender flairs ???
Matthew Ryckman I checked the other day & with a little over 5K miles on it I am getting 12.4. They generally do not get good MPG, besides when you lift it this height MPG isn’t what you are looking for.
Yea I understand that lol plus that much money a year in fuel wouldn’t be that much unless u drive a lot. When the time comes I want that exact build!!
I realize im a little late here, did you do any gear changes for the bigger tires? if not, any problems driving on the highway as far as overdrive kicking in and out? ive been looking to do a similar truck, but cant decide on 35 or 37" tires
Nice truck man. Question I just got a 2018 and I want to lift it but I have heard that it will mess up some sensors for TSS ? Did you have to do any mods to avoid that? Thx
Thank you. I just reached 90K miles this weekend & I have had a few times where it turned itself off, seems like it did that o right hand turns that I made relatively fast. But once I parked & turned of the truck for about 10 mins, it always deserted itself. Factory is telling me they see it with tires 37” and larger. I think it has happened to me about 8-10 times.
I know you said the TSS works fine... however I’m interested to know if you had a work around or if everything is stock? Gives us a update since the initial post.
Deuce Jordan As of today I have almost 7K on it. The only mods/Fab work that we had to do was the back of the front fenders had to cut back so that the tires would not rub while at full turn. I also had a speed calibrator put on it to show the correct speed. As of now I have not changed the gearing in it.
Rick Thank you, don’t give up on finding a Toyota shop that will decal it for you. Just because those knuckle heads are being a**holes doesn’t mean that they all are. Good luck
Thank you. No I did not change the gearing, I kept the factory gearing. The ride is amazing for everything on it. I now have 98K miles on it. One thing I did find is that with the speed calibrator, you cannot change out just 1 tire with a brand new one because when you do & you take curves it messes with the traction control. The best case would be to change out all 4. I do love this truck, style & motor. I do not like the new body style or motor options. Unfortunately when the time comes to replace this one it will not be with the new style.
@@toytun1827 ya i saw the new body tundra it looks like it's the size of a Tacoma. Wonder how the pro is gonna look. All 4 tires that's crazy, I wonder if tuning the speed calibrator will help that issue like a bullychip. What shock setup did you do for the lift?
Nice. One question I got the 2018 1794 edition and want to do a setup like yours did you have to change the gears because of the big tires? I would appreciate the info thanks.
You know when I was researching how to build mine there were mixed options. It depends on you and what you do. If you do not pull with it, it find it is fine for driving. If you are going to pull I would change the gears. The only issue I find with not changing the gears is sometimes at cruise it will downshift on inclines more. With not changing the gears I am averaging 12.9 mpg with 14K miles on it.
What model is this? I'm not too similar with Toyota. Is this just a Tundra or is is a Sr5 or something? Thanks. Sick looking truck though man! Good job.
Beautiful truck. I’ve got a 2017 that I want to lift but I can’t justify it cause I want it in the garage and can’t get it past the wife. I put a rough country 2.5” leveling kit and it made it look a lot better, if I was to get a lift I would probably do the same setup as you except I would get Fuel Crush wheels.
Nick Ferderer I am sure you 2.5 makes your truck look just as good as mine, the only different is the height. I like those wheels as well, they look nice
Just bought an '18 1794 and wanted to put a 7inch BDS on it. the guys at the shop were very reluctant due to never have been doing one before. They said it "COULD" mess with all the Toyota Safety Sense sensors and stuff. Did you have ANY issues with electronics or dash lights? and do you have all the bells and whistle like pre collision, Rear cross traffic, lane keep.? THIS WOULD BE AA HUGE HELP! Thanks buddy BEAUTIFUL TRUCK!!
Thank you. I looked at the 7" BDS, it is a great kit. I have a 2018 Platinum loaded with every option just like the 1794 and have had no issues yet. TSS, BSM & RCTA has been working fine. The Toyota place where i purchased the truck from did all of my work with the exception of a little fab work, which All Out Offroad did to it. The only issue that I ran into was not from the lift, it was from the bumper. Depending on the size tire/wheel combo, you will have to do a little fab work to prevent rubbing under normal conditions. I am glad I was able to go through the local Toyota dealer to have the work done on mine. Hope this helps.
SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT. i just bought 22in Fuel Wheels and 35in Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I was super worried i would get dash board lights on that TSS stuff. I went with the 7in BDS. Insatll is next friday! SUPER STOKED. thanks for your input my man !
