    You’re right about Jerry.
Yes he’s on fire and it’s contagious as he spreads it to the rest of the band and the audience on hand. 🤚
Not just a great musician but a masterful showman who knew how and when to take everyone with him when that moment was right.
And he had a real knack for creating that moment.

And that is how you end the first set. LOL. "Deal" was not about the lyrics, it was all about Jerry's solo's, especially the second one. When Jerry steps back with his "Tiger" Guitar and just lays out some serious rock grooves that just soar, he is still, at 49 or 50 years old a glorious fretmaster. I would put that second solo up against any solo from any artist any time any where. We all still miss you Jerry.

@bobschenkel7921 Well yes and no. He wrote the music from the lyrics, so there's a connection.

This is said to be one of their favorite places to play.

Man that 2nd solo.. hits me in the right place every time I hear it!! If you let this video play from the end, you’ll get a really nice China/Rider you should definately check out as a counterpoint to the one you did from 74.

I can see the ski hill everyday in the winter, can hear loud bands from the roof in the summer. Youngest of 8. Plenty of influence for me, thank God.king diamond to the dead.

Great request! Alpine Valley was the first place I saw the Dead live in August of 1980. I was 14, almost 15 and I remember it like it happened yesterday. I can't even remember what I had for breakfast yesterday, but I remember that! It may sound a bit hyperbolic, but that experience changed me for life.

@7:09 When Bob Dylan wrote about Jerry, "He’s the very spirit personified of whatever is Muddy River country at its core and screams up into the spheres." This is what he meant.

@7:02 Bill taps Bob with his drumstick and Bobby turns and smiles. This is a band that valued fun as much as they valued the music.

You can see from watching Billy and Mickey in this jam, they played different chords on their drums, quite a bit. Their reasoning was not to give a louder sound, which they achieved. It was because both were great on the drums, and played them in their own rights for many years, jamming apart even though their drumming somehow meshed. It's why the Rythm Devils was so accomplished. Most 2 drummer bands had the drummers play pretty much the same chords. For the Dead, they learned many variations and played them with improv baked in.

Deal was one of their most performed songs, and Jerry usually killed it. I don't know what his emotional connection to Robert Hunter 's lyrics was,but he he sure had one and it was evident every time he played it.

Definitely a banger!! “Deal” can get very hot, but I think some of the later era Jerry Garcia Band versions are consistently the hottest you’ll hear.

A last minute decision for me to go, as friends who were going from NY had extra tickets. I took off from work, last minute and caught a ride with them.

One of the few Jerry originals that he played regularly with the Dead and the Garcia Band, the other is Sugaree, I can’t think of any more. Jerry really let’s it rip in this song. Two solos. The first is over the verse and stays close to the changes but the second solo is more open ended over the major chords. It’s a great song even without the solos.

Jerry is the ultimate guitar anti-hero. He avoided all of the standard gunslinger tropes that most every lead guitarist trafficked in back in the day. Jimmy Herring once commented that Jerry's playing had a strong feminine component to it, and I agree. It flows and yields like water going where gravity takes it. this is a great choice. You should try more old stuff. It's a different kind of magic!

I find it hard to watch your videos because you talk way too much. Please just shut up and watch. Stop the video if you need to interrupt. It's a sacrilege to talk over Jerry!

I mean… idk how to tell you this, but, you can watch these GD videos without reaction. And those won’t have someone talking over them. Just throwing that out there

@@Farts_McCool Reactions are fine. Just pause at a good time for comments. Otherwise it's like going to a movie and having kids talk all through the movie. I respect the music, I've been a Deadhead since 1967
