@@unverifiedusername holy smokes, that's a great idea! I should have suggested it in the description :D Thnx for the comment etc. glad u liked the video :*
I played this game in my childhood, I can't even remember the name of this game, I really appreciate your video, which is full of my childhood memories.
@@VixXstazosJOB haha thanks for the humorous correction! And @Koontzily thank you for explaining what I meant! As a non-native English speaker, this is actually a perfect example of how tenses matter - definitely learned my lesson! 😅 I remember watching this video two years ago (how time flies! 🤯) after a super long day at work. I was totally burned out, but this nostalgic video hit different and warmed my heart ❤ Back then, I was feeling kinda overwhelmed and stressed about keeping up with the crazy-fast changes in tech. And what's funny is exactly when I first wrote my comment (around Nov 2022?), AI and ChatGPT were just starting to blow up on X (Twitter). The feeling is just like when I was a kid playing computer games as a computer nerd! that same excitement about new tech! 😄 Fast forward to now, and ChatGPT has literally become my go-to buddy for English writing and coding stuff! It's made my work so much more manageable, and now I'm actually hyped about pushing my boundaries and prepping for the next decade in tech. Life comes at you fast, huh? It's like that feeling when I first played computer games as a kid - that sense of endless possibilities. From playing those early computer games to now working with AI, it's like life has come full circle in the most unexpected way! 🎮💻✨ --I drafted this and proofread by GPT, lol.
I've played Gods a hundred times and I've watched tons of playthroughs of it too through the years, but I've never seen anyone play as skillfully as you. I've only watched the first 20 minutes, but so far you've taken no damage (unless for time-saving purposes with a health item lying just around the corner) and you have found some bonus/secrets that I never knew existed. Hats off to you!!!
Thnx for the compliment :) Gods is one of the first PC games I ever played, it is very dear to my heart :) also: take your time, I don't expect anyone to watch the whole thing in one go (I wouldn't either :D)
@@Koontzily I almost watched it all in one go 😂 one of my first dearest of games growing up! Thank you for showing your flow and mastery, I enjoyed every little and big bit of it 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@Little_Lancey thank you so very much :) I'm in the planning stages of doing a 2nd playthrough which should be interesting as monsters have more hp, but I don't want it to be the same as this video, rather a semi-speedrun. It should be out sometime round mid December, be sure to stay tuned :D
This is such an insanely impressive playthrough, you are basically flawless and perfect in your execution. Oh my God (pun intended) this was amazing to watch. I used to play this game as a kid, got all the way up to the final boss but never could beat him. Thankyou for the trip down memory lane, my friend. You've mentioned in a few comments you may do follow-up playthroughs (eg on the harder difficulty). I would love to see that if you end up doing it. Again, amazing playthrough. You clearly put a lot of effort into making this. I appreciate it.
I definitely will do a second-playthrough, I'm just a little swamped in my private life at the moment and am finishing a different project so I simply cannot manifest additional time (and patience) to do Gods again quite yet, BUT it will definitely happen :D Thank you for your support :*
I am 34 and played it on my dads PC as a kid and had no idea what to do. I am happy that I found this game on YT, could not remember the games name. This is childhood.

I played it all the time , i loved this game sooooo much ! Seing you finshi this game with one life remind me many good things , thank you my friend ! I have " buy it " and instaled it one week ago and i wanted to see if it's possible to one life it . Mission accomplished . It rest to do the same :D
thank you so much for the uploading this, so many memories brought back! In my opinion, the pinnacle of DOS games that I played! Spent soooo many hours playing this! But, gotta be honest with you, when I finally was able to finish it, the ending was so anti climatic, lol!! that image with the warrior pointing to the sky with the sword was impossible to erase from my memory! I cannot thank you enough for uploading this, nor I can express how amazed I was at your gameplay! Kudos!!
Man, I hear you regarding that ending screen :D But back in those days, one was so happy to finish a quality (and difficult) game, it almost didn't matter what the ending was xD For me personally, the single biggest disappointment of GODS is the final boss -.- Thank you so much for the comment :)
At 52:27, I remember if you're too slow to flip that switch on the left, the World Key will be pushed into the spikes, and you have to use the trap door key to obtain the bombs in order to destroy the said spikes (which will be removed later as well), thus sacrificing your tertiary fire (Hunters) for nothing, that's why the hint is important: Use your trap door key wisely
Excellently played! 👍 I had this on the Amiga 500, and Richard Joseph's remix of Nation 12's "Into the Wonderful" has to be one of the best intro themes (for an Amiga game) of all time. 🙂
hey thanks man, I always wanted to 100% complete it :D Nevertheless, these old games have such a specific feel to them, you can NEVER be too sure you've done them a 100% justice, if u know what I mean :)
Oh hey I remember this. I played it long ago on PC - which had way worse sounds then what you have here, every gem dropped had a loud "PING" sound. I never found all the secrets but I did manage to beat the final boss, and I thought the ending where you got immortality - which just mean you get like 10 extra lives to replay the game again - was pretty lame for what was a pretty hard game, but I did enjoy it. I guess its abandonware so GoG doesn't sell it, but if they did I probably would get it there. Great video.
yeah, the +10 extra lives after beating the final boss is kind of lame, but also sort of funny.. its like an old-school game saying: "what did u expect?" :D
At 39:17, if you jump over the bomb then head up the ladder it will remove it and you can head back down and get it for the rest of the game. After power ups its very powerful. If you time it right you can drop it from the top ledge on the final boss to kill the snake each time it attacks.
I've tried this and know it works (in other words: you're right). However, should you misstep, it could very well kill YOU and I really wanted to record a "clean run" :D Now, since you brought it up, when I get around to do the 2nd playthrough (e.g. I kept the save-state just after killing the final guardian) I believe I shall include this feature :D So thanks in advance and thank you for the comment, I'll be sure to thank you in the video that follows; whenever that may be :) :*
Really great play through. I have learned so much! Gotta ask, what do the weapon power potions do? Is it a permanent increase to damage? A temporary increase? Or possibly only for the level or while you have that weapon? Thanks!
This is all I found on the subject (though, to be honest, I didn't dig that deep xD): "Buying or picking up a power potion increases the damage done by ALL of your weapons. The same effect can be achieved by getting multiples of the same weapon. Considering power potions effect all the weapons, they are obviously a far more economical way of increasing weapon hit points than buying or picking up multiples of the same weapon" the link from where I copied the text: www.lemonamiga.com/games/docs.php?id=731
@@Koontzily Thank you good sir. I saw you pick up multiple during this run so was thinking I should probably do the same. Tried digging around myself and checking the manual again but there does not seem to be any info. Might do some tests to see if I can work it out.
Amazing playthrough! I have some questions: How do you guarantee that the shield at 9:30 appears? Is it because you press the lever from a higher ground or is it timing related? You bought a shield at 55:46 but then it didn't show up in your inventory, what was that about? What's the condition for the 1:03:42 key appearing?
in these old games there may be multiple requirements per event (I will not go into details). Regarding the shield at 9:30 - I cannot remember if it requires the activation of "Speed, Lives and Score Bonus" at 8:57, but am confident the shield DOES NOT APPEAR unless you double-flip the lever at 8:41 :) Regarding the 2nd question - that is not an invulnerability shield, it is a DAMAGE REDUCTION shield (read the description in the dialog box at 55:47 - you may also notice this particular shield is slightly LARGER than the invulnerability shield; that is to say: the inner surface of the icon takes up more space - hope this addendum makes sense xD). Your 3rd question is a tough one.. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure :/ All I know is: if you leave "Pestle + Mortar" at 1:01:53 than go about other business and return, the Key appears. If I had to guess, I'd say Its almost as if its some kind of an unspoken counter-speed bonus, as the countdown for the Key starts right after collecting the "Speed Bonus" at 1:01:50 :D Hope my answers are satisfactory. Should u have any further questions do not hesitate to ask :)
@@Suthriel the frustration is understandable, these old games can sometimes confuse the f*ck out of you :D the same goes for the Jewel at 40:38 - CAN IT BE PICKED UP? I have a video semi-proving IT CANNOT (I just kinda don't have the patience to do an audio commentary so its not uploaded yet)
@@Koontzily That one looks like the thief would pick it up, if that teleport key would not spawn in. I have a Gods Viewer (for showing all maps and items and events and puzzle triggers), where that second teleport key is linked to some events, so maybe this one is optional, and the gem would be the consolation prize ^.^ That viewer however does only show, how to spawn in that giant gem in Level2 and this treasure chest in Level3, not what you then have to do with them, like dropping the gem in the boss room.
@@Suthriel there is a way to make a different thief jump up there (which I managed to accomplish in the un-uploaded video mentioned in my previous reply). However, he just circles the Jewel without picking it up. The Jewel is most probably there to "ensure" that the thief picks up the Teleport Key and stay on the platform. This way you are forced to use the Attract Monsters Potion (which you can easily botch by leaving the room too soon and the potion gets removed from your inventory) :)
Oh lord, thank you for the upload. Great memories 🤩Question, how do you get the "jump" potion at 2:54? Whenever I try to play it your way, it wouldn't work. Any help is highly appreciated :)
Thank you so much for the kind words :) I believe the jump potion appears ONLY if you solve the puzzle at 1:32 (perhaps you also have to FIRST take the trap door key at 2:46 - at least; that's the way I do it) Hope this solves the issue :) P.S. should this fail, feel free to report back and I'll try and be of more help :)
Fun fact, you can keep the treasure chest that appears at 48:26, though unlike the Magical Gem in the previous level, it doesn't seem to do much other than waste your inventory space
@@TheLambdaTeam I don't think it was badly designed, I think it was clearly intended that way, because; who in their right mind wouldn't take the Lightning!? Hell.. if I hadn't had to show the secret; I'd take it too :D
That was immensely satisfying to watch. How the heck did you discover all the secrets? As a kid, I spent hours and hours trying to figure them out, and still couldn’t
thanks :D Listen, u can never be a full 100% sure with these old games, but in this case I believe I nailed it; you just have to try out ALL of the combinations of paths, times, health and other plausible requirements, levers and so forth xD There's a bunch of help bonuses (half health/full health), extra lives if the game feels you're overwhelmed (that is to say; if at certain points in the game u have less lives than the developers deem worthy) etc. I was kinda thinking about doing that walkthrough next but its to arduous xD
@@Koontzily To this day the biggest secret about this game for me is what in the name of Gods do the wings and the claws do for the familiar after you buy them from the shop. I think one of those ruins the bird in that it makes it to kamikaze to death into the enemies, but I don't remember which, and I'm not sure at all as to what the other does.
@@Radii_DC maaan, I didn't know about the kamikaze thing, I'll definitely test that :D for me, the biggest mystery is the unattainable Gem, right about 40:39, I have a working hypothesis video on it but still; no solution :D

I loved this game, i never was able to beat the third boss , i was 9 years old at the time. I remember the joy , of discovering secrets in this game, it was really difficult to do so.
I was also around 9-10y old, was able to play it once every other week (more/less), on my uncle's computer who lived across town. Naturally; I had to beg him into letting me play. One time he and my parents left to a restaurant or something, than went over to visit some family friends near by, I played for 10 hours straight, felt severely nauseous afterwards xD
Bringing the large treasure chest near the end of Level 3 and placing it before the Minotaur distracts him, just as the large crystal in Level 2 distracts the Golden Dragon. 😉
My apologies for highjacking that video, but how does one beat the final boss on the 2nd or 3rd playthrough? I reached him, but was unable to do anything meaningful. The top left spot didnt seem to work as the worm couldn't be killed in time. But so was the bottom left spot. The worm could be ignored, but whatever he shoots out of his mouth couldn't be killed in time either. Maybe my problem was that I basically speedrunned the 2nd playthrough? On a related note: I don't understand weapon power in this game. Like at all 😅
I can't give u a 100% answer as I haven't yet even BEGUN to practice the 2nd run :D however, I'll tell u my idea: From 42:25 onward, I would keep the axes and power them up on every possible occasion; this would mean some parts of the Underworld will take much longer than if u had the maces (spots like: 51:29, 56:36, 1:05:21 etc. ---> if u don't take the Familiar at 59:33, the spot at 1:09:37 will require multiple jumps to get the final axes as only fireballs will be able do break the stones). This, of course, might cost u some bonuses but what the heck, bonuses are not the point of subsequent playthroughs anyway xD ALSO (and this is important in regards to your question), the following is a quote by the user "BenWilkinson-ib5yx" who posted an interesting comment a few months ago: @BenWilkinson-ib5yx 'At 39:17, if you jump over the bomb then head up the ladder it will remove it and you can head back down and get it for the rest of the game. After power ups its very powerful. If you time it right you can drop it from the top ledge on the final boss to kill the snake each time it attacks' ...so, this is also an option for defeating the final boss after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. playthrough (P.S. I also do not understand how weapon power works in this game, but I trust it :D)
Thank you very much for the in-depth reply! Taking and keeping the axes early sounds like a pretty good idea. I hope the bombs aren't the only possibilty though as I'm likely going to butcher the timing :) I'll let you know how it goes (once I actually get around to it)
This is a great video, lots of knowledge and high level of skills! You deserve some more subs, so you have mine! I'm slowly working on a walkthrough in the remastered version.
Nice. That game was tremendously difficult to play as a kid, I only beat it once when I was like 10 or so. And there was no Internet, no manuals, no nothing, just u and the game. When I grew up, I read some online walkthroughs and became seriously badass in Gods, but not THAT bad. It's a shame you didn't continue for another run on the higher difficulty. This is speed demos archives performance.
there were moments I wish I had done a little differently, like at 14:58 - there is a way to do it more efficiently, but.. what the hell xD I was thinking of doing it a second run (still haven't given up on the idea, which is why I still have the save file of the beginning of the second run), I will get around to it relatively soon. Thanks for the comment, glad u enjoyed it :)
@@Koontzily Oh yes, I saw ur video about that part, u can jump so that the stars dont hit the thief. I didnt know that, always waited for the thing to wear off. Can shave a couple of seconds off indeed. I have never done or seen a second run after beating the skull boss, that would be super interesting, the game says it gets more difficult.
@@Radii_DC yes, it does get more difficult, in standard ways (monster being harder to kill etc/or, maybe even just that, but still: you're right..) Perhaps the second run doesn't need to be as clean as the original walkthrough.. I think you've convinced me :) I'll get around to it soon enough (no joke) :D
I beat this on Amiga for the first time about an hour ago, and came straight here to see what secrets I had missed, haha. My strategy mostly involved buying power potions and the reduce damage shields whenever I could, although I'm not actually sure how much they stack. May have just been a placebo effect!
I as well have always been a tad suspicious of damage reduction item, wouldn't be surprised if it were a one-time-only type of buy but no one told us :D So how was your experience beating the game on Amiga? I've only ever played this version.. Tnx for the comment btw :)
@Koontzily I like the Amiga version a lot! I'd say it's probably the definitive version, with the best sound and look of the status bar, although it's kind of on the slow side. I play the PAL version on an NTSC machine so that it goes just a tad faster. Another version I really like is the Sega Genesis version, which which has some really good background music in the levels. I think getting used to that version's speed is why the Amiga and DOS seem so slow to me now!
@@forcastiabluey while I very much enjoy the DOS version of the game (the look of it, the feel of it, the sound effects etc.), I do wish it would run faster.. Playing it this slow seems easier than other versions, but it is not; you have to be very specific with more less each key input, as sometimes things may get lost in translation. Although it is not as evident in the video, one thing that kinda bothers me in the DOS version is that you can fire continuously ONLY if the player model is past 2/3 of the screen (example at 22:11), otherwise you can fire only three shots before cooldown (example at 36:23). Still, it is the first version I ever played and have been drawn to it ever since; I admit - it is my favorite, despite its many flaws :)
Very impressive. Of all the walkthroughs I've watched, you're the only other person I've seen use the monster-attract potion to get the water gem 'correctly' on 3-2. I always check that first to see if a walkthrough is worth watching completely. Did you work that out yourself? Very nice!
baby, don't you remember? YOU are the one who told me where the bonus is (or are u just testing to see if I'll be honest?) ;) In my 'Gods - casual play' series, that wasn't the only thing I missed, but you explaining how to get this particular bonus really inspired me to give my very best :*
@@Koontzily hahaha. Oh, right. Sorry, I didn't recognise the channel. Really wasn't a test to see if you were being honest - I was just super excited to see someone get that bonus. Really nicely played. You've inspired me to fire my Amiga back up and have another crack at that annoying jewel (by the thief) in 3-1 (40:38) . Oh, I see in one of your other comments you mention it - did you finally solve it? (if you did, just confirm, don't tell me how just yet 😄)
@@187raum I haven't gotten the jewel yet but I've made interesting progress (if one could call it that xD), have a couple of theories for both cases (that is: how u can get the jewel, but also, some ideas on why it can't be done). I have a video made on the subject but I haven't posted it because I can't 100% claim one can get it, but also can't disprove that it can be done. Hey, I know u weren't testing me, I was just kidding :D Tnx for the comment etc. If I solve the jewel I'll let u know but won't tell u how unless u ask (same goes for u, of course :D) :)
@@Koontzily I messed around on 3-1 tonight (first time in years, I'm very rusty) but still haven't been able to get the gem in the Thief's Lair. I did come up with a slightly new pattern that basically stashed three thieves by the door to the room that has the World key, and I can get the Monster Attract potion there as well, but I can't lure them back up into the Thief's Lair. I might try to lure some thieves that are on the top half of the level. I'd always assumed the gem was there to keep the thief up on the platform so you had to use the potion to get him to come down. I'd be interested in your video 🙂
Amiga version has a different feel, depends on what your into :D I wish the PC version was as fluent as the Amiga version, the PC version is a tad slow (to say the least) :)
@@Koontzily Yep, Amiga version was great but not the greatest possible - I'm not a big fan of the choppy scrolling, looks like ST version but there wasn't any blitter in the ST. Was it software scrolled?
@@AdiGO6578 I don't know the answer to the software scrolling question, sorry :/ Just to reiterate as well as clarify: I absolutely LOVE the PC version, I just wish it was 30/40% faster - practicing a walkthrough in this innate speed can sometimes be very unpleasant (and harder, because your actions must be much more deliberate, rather than comfortably automatized :D)
For those that want to replay it. I believe you still can replay it. There are tutorials on how to set up what needs to be set up so you can play it. I think they would still work on Windows 10-11. It's been a while, I don't remember the steps.
Technically, these are not ALL secrets as there are many "help-bonuses" throughout the game; meaning: you have to have 01 lives or less, have half or less than half health at certain points etc. The worst thing that happened during the recording of this walkthrough was, while I was testing some alternative routes in world 1 just to make sure, I accidentally discovered a speed bonus at 11:01 (hence the detour from 11:43 to 11:49 as that monster spawn had to be postponed), so everything had to be done all over again xD This kind of game always has you wondering if you really got a 100% (like; there is a fire gem bonus at 43:07, and a water gem bonus at 45:21, but where is/and; is there/ an ice gem bonus, picked up at 44:41?) :/ xD
@@Koontzily I'm trying to use your guide to play a longplay emulator online but I can't get the jump potion in Word 1, level 2. How comes? I did but nothing happens... it's really tricky! May you help?
@@0rion79 Hey there :D regarding the hidden button in 1-1, yes; in order to get the stone at 1:32 to come out you need to reach the last lever in less than two minutes. Also, you need to acquire all previous secrets in connection to levers at 0:19, 0:43, 1:09, 1:12, 1:18 and 1:20 (like shown in the video). Now, regarding 1-2, you CANNOT get the jump potion at 2:54 if you haven't resolved the secret of the hidden button in 1-1 (alas; they are interconnected xD). Its all in the video :) P.S. never hesitate to ask anything, I always try and do my best to help :*
@@Koontzily Sorry, do you mean that i have to play the game more than once in order to unlock all secrets? Because I'm following exactly your steps Playing a fresh game and i just can't do the same n
@@0rion79 ahm.. no, you do not have to play the game more than once to unlock all secrets, where did you get that from? :D are u sure u are "returning" appropriate levers to their original position at appropriate times? now u got me hooked, we've got to solve this xD
Besides the Lightning Bolt (which you didn't take for the gold chest bonus), you didn't show the Magic axe weapon (power 3), which is a tertiary fire along side your main weapon and fireball, I find it useful to kill the snake offsprings in Level 2 since the axes move along the floor. Superseded by the Hunters in Level 4
I'm sure when i played this years ago I picked up the exploding bomb and found some way to keep it all the way to the end of the game by avoiding the trigger point that automatically takes it off you.
someone in the comments section pointed out that very same thing, even gave an exact explanation of how it can be done (I even replied to it). If I find the comment I'll let you know :)
Hmm. Not sure but y'must kill the mini-taur at the center of da room (so the Time Bombs will drop there), then jump over it, break the cracked block and grab all the treasures, then jump over the Time Bombs once again and climb up the ladder until y'get the "your bomb has been removed" message. Then go back an' pick it up. Mind you, it'll replace your magic axes, and y'll lose it in Level 4 when y'pick up Hunters (or buy Hunters). Level 4 has another set of Time Bombs in The Trap Room, where a moving block pushes the World Key into a trap. They'd be awesome to keep, too, but I have no idea if it's possible.

Great walkthrough! I played this as a kid and couldn't remember the name untill a couple of days ago when i saw a facebook post about. I was so happy 😁🤣 I have a question for you though. Hey man, thanks for the comment! :D you don't have to kill the monsters in any particular order, BUT - to get the stone at 1:32 to come out, you need to reach the last lever in less than two minutes (side-note: if I remember correctly; I don't think u have to pull all the previous levers for the stone to come out, only some, but I found its best to do them in one fell swoop, both for brevity and so as u don't get confused later on regarding each combination xD)

Thanks! :) It was recorded world by world (or, as phrased by the game: level by level - u know what I mean :D), none the less, it took many, maany attempts to get it as condensed as possible while showcasing all available secrets as well as squeezing novelty-shots here, there and wherever possible :D
I can not get that platform at the end of level one to move no matter what I do. I followed your switch sequence to the letter. And it wont budge. Whats going wrong ??
Umm, not so "all secrets", for instance in the first guardian you didn't found the Lightning attack which has a 25 power or so (if I recall correctly!)
if u take the lightning bolt (located inside the treasure room at 11:07) u get more fire power, true; in this case however u don't get the gold chest and key at 13:13 (plus the lightning bolt gets instantly removed when u enter the Temple) :)
@@Rapanui5 yeah, many many years ago I found that one PURELY by accident - I made a misstep and didn't make it to the treasure room (I noob-fell of the ledge with the shield still on or something, cant remember xD) so I go and fight the Guardian, and then I see a gold key and chest drop out of thin air.. Man, I appreciate the comment and understand the frustration but, for the most part, I can't be dealing with this game no more :D Give me the timestamps of where u have issues and we'll try and figure something out :D
@@Koontzily no, in my special nomenclature, that's in 0-0, I mean world 2- there's one at the far left top. I think you can either teleport to it or jump to it once it appears
There wasn't a sequel, though both this and Magic Pockets were so big as games that any potential sequels thereto might've had a hard time living up to those standards. 💡
I've just watched up to world two, and I'm convinced this whole game was just designed to sell walkthrough magazines. There's no way you'd ever figure out any of that on your own... and I'm here because I couldn't see how to progress past certain parts near the latter half of world two without avoiding taking hits and even losing lives, it seems like you're forced through that path, unless you know the secrets...
First off, thank you for the comment :) Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm not quite sure I understood the tone of your statement :D of course, taking no damage or taking an amount of damage with the knowledge there is a help bonus round the corner takes practice, I'll give you that, but as for loosing lives, I don't see an issue.. There are videos of games in which people have achieved far more difficult feats than playing Gods all secrets no deaths.. However, if you wish, we can get into it, just name the section you find troublesome (timestamps would be appreciated) :)
@@Koontzily thanks for your reply :) Well I can't see how the game is fair from watching this video, because it's a perfect play through which only demonstrates what the game looks like when you already know every perfect choice to make. I'm playing as a new person trying to work out the game and let it teach me how to play it by experimentation, and over and over again, the game tells me that "trial and error" is the only way forwards until you memorise every devious trap the level designer laid around each corner. Pull this switch - something good happens. Pull another switch - something bad happens, no way to tell. Another part you just have to drop down, no way to tell what's going to happen - fine the first time, next time - gotcha! Enemies face-rolling into you. Only way to avoid damage is to know its going to happen and be ready. As a first time player, I couldn't work out how to get to the upper level platforms in World Two at 3:00. I climbed to the top of the ladder, and jump to the right - this is the highest and closest point to that upper platform, and the jump fell short. So there was no way in hell I would've thought to move further away to the left and jump from the platform over the ladder, to land on the platform on the right like in the video. So I ended up walking through the spike trap (visible at 3:16) just to get past and just take the damage. Then going down that trapdoor, it's a leap of faith, no way to tell what's down there, so I took more unavoidable damage falling into the enemy waiting below (visible at 4:06) and then continue to the right and get ambushed a few seconds later by the spawning enemies on the left and right of me (visible at 4:11), no way to defend against that unless you know it's about to happen - so of course that took the last of my health and I died. That's when I gave up and came here to look at what I'm supposed to do... First thing I tried after watching the video is the secret black chest at 1:09 and nothing happened when I pulled the switches in that order, so there must be some other hidden criteria, like how soon you arrive, or something like that.
@@Domarius64 I'll have to read through this a few more times, not at home at the moment so can't concentrate on a coherent, detailed answer :) Expect a reply in the following hours (if not tomorrow). In the meantime, I do hope you don't mind me asking: how old are you? I myself am turning 42 this December :D xD I ask simply because this isn't the first time I encountered the phrasing "the game is not fair" (or something along the lines of that sentiment), which is a concept that eludes me, even though I do understand it. Suffice to say, I in no way mean to downplay your experience with the game, nor do I find your opinions less valid irregardless of your age. On the contrary, I cannot find a single fault in your latest reply; except (perhaps) your expectations towards a game released back in an era when games were designed to "BE unfair" :) I'll elaborate on this (as said above) in the following hours if not tomorrow. Once again, thank you for the ongoing exchange, I do appreciate it.
@@KoontzilyNo problem, I'm 46, and I know what games from this era can be like, but they are not all equal. Look, I have a soft spot for this game for nostalgia, and I really love the artwork and atmosphere, but playing it again reminded me why I gave up on it back in the day after finally getting to the first boss. It just wasn't rewarding because the game boils down to - make a bit of progress, die from successive cheap hits, restart and try and remember what's around the corner at each step to try and avoid it. That's not playing a game, that's just a memory exercise, like learning your times tables. Many games of the time did a much better job allowing you to "play" the game, and eventually you'll have to get good to get far, and give lots of room for error and experimentation. At the upper end of good examples, Megaman famously teaches you how to play it as you play, you are on a moving platform, and nothing dangerous is happening while you see another moving platform collapse in front of you, giving you a visual warning of what can happen. But I could pick a hundred games off the top of my head that allowed you to play and learn as you go. I'm just coming to the conclusion of where Gods sits in terms of game design. I'd love to have my opinion changed, but right now I can look back at it and say the levels are just assembled out of a series of cheap hits that require memorisation by trial and error.
@@Domarius64 Actually, I have to say I've come to realize we are in complete agreement! Yes - the game is an eternal grind of trying hundreds of combinations involving multiple variables until you are 99% certain there is nothing more to discover. I now realize I did it to be DONE with it :D Every once in a while I would be drawn back into playing and experimenting with it and it used to irritate me and now, it is over. The game is done and I get to talk about it, answer questions and have discussions whenever someone initiates the conversation :) In the end, recording Gods was an almost therapeutic exercise. Thank you very much for your feedback!
well, every following playthrough is tougher than the previous, I much more wonder if one would even be able to finish the game (lets say: mid third attempt) :D I did have one more video prepared on Gods (regarding the mystery jewel first appearing at 40:38, the one up on the platform by the Teleport Key) but I seem to have lost the footage xD If I get around to it, I might record it again with audio commentary as explanation. Once again, thanks for the positive feedback :)
I remember it from Amiga, pretty game with nice artwork, but it was soooooo damn tough, I learned to hate these kind of games (used to be called arcade adventures) where there is no way to crack the solution of the level unless you play it to infinity. Go f-yourself with those invisible switches and buttons... One of notorious ones was "Shadow of the Beast" series. It was praised to high heaven back in the day, but the gameplay was downright abysmal. Any game that make itself broken and unbeatable but make you realize that much later is just bad design. On the other hand you had some bright examples that are tough but immersive and intuitive enough like say Another world or Myth.
not to go into detail: I understand your point and fully agree. Still, I kind of miss the old-school grinding mindset, terrible games included :) btw, kidas engleski samo tako ;)

Amazing guide. Great to see that someone's still playing this game.

Thanks!
This is all I found on the subject (though, to be honest, I didn't dig that deep xD):
"Buying or picking up a power potion increases the damage done by ALL
of your weapons. The same effect can be achieved by getting multiples of
the same weapon. Considering power potions effect all the weapons, they are
obviously a far more economical way of increasing weapon hit points than
buying or picking up multiples of the same weapon"

@@Koontzily Thank you good sir. I saw you pick up multiple during this run so was thinking I should probably do the same. Tried digging around myself and checking the manual again but there does not seem to be any info. Might do some tests to see if I can work it out.

Amazing playthrough! I have some questions:
How do you guarantee that the shield at 9:30 appears?
At 48:30, what does this giant treasure chest do? Is it something for the boss fight like the giant gem from level 2?
it does nothing, just gives a tone of treasure :D for whatever reason, it can be picked up, yet cannot be transferred into next world.
@@Koontzily Thats quite underwhelming ^.^ I saw someone pick it up, thats why i was curious, what it does. Until now, i never managed to get it.
I have a Gods Viewer (for showing all maps and items and events and puzzle triggers), where that second teleport key is linked to some events, so maybe this one is optional, and the gem would be the consolation prize ^.^
That viewer however does only show, how to spawn in that giant gem in Level2 and this treasure chest in Level3, not what you then have to do with them, like dropping the gem in the boss room.
This is one of my favourite game of all time. Thank you
Oh lord, thank you for the upload.
@@Koontzily Thank you for your quick answer, I'll try this and let you know :)

How the heck did you discover all the secrets? As a kid, I spent hours and hours trying to figure them out, and still couldn’t

Like at all 😅
I can't give u a 100% answer as I haven't yet even BEGUN to practice the 2nd run :D however, I'll tell u my idea:
From 42:25 onward, I would keep the axes and power them up on every possible occasion; this would mean some parts of the Underworld will take much longer than if u had the maces (spots like: 51:29, 56:36, 1:05:21 etc. ---> if u don't take the Familiar at 59:33, the spot at 1:09:37 will require multiple jumps to get the final axes as only fireballs will be able do break the stones). This, of course, might cost u some bonuses but what the heck, bonuses are not the point of subsequent playthroughs anyway xD
ALSO (and this is important in regards to your question), the following is a quote by the user "BenWilkinson-ib5yx" who posted an interesting comment a few months ago:
@BenWilkinson-ib5yx

...so, this is also an option for defeating the final boss after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. playthrough (P.S. I also do not understand how weapon power works in this game, but I trust it :D)

@@Koontzily Already subbed and waiting for that awesome run :))
@@Radii_DC it shall be done xD just have to half-finish Diablo 2 v1.00 series, but I'll parallel practice Gods 2nd run :D
YOU are the one who told me where the bonus is (or are u just testing to see if I'll be honest?) ;) In my 'Gods - casual play' series, that wasn't the only thing I missed, but you explaining how to get this particular bonus really inspired me to give my very best :*
also, the channel name was, I think, different back then, u definitely left a comment. Anyway, thank you for the question :D
What a 'great' sound quality :) ~ Amiga version player

Great longplay, classic game! I wonder how many times you have played it to know every secret so well!
How comes? I press the button but nothing happens... also I have read that on 1-1 there is a hidden button almost before the last door, that you may reach only if you press the last lever within 2 minutes from the start.

Superseded by the Hunters in Level 4
yes, used to play with the Tomahawks, decided however I didn't really need them :D

Go f-yourself with those invisible switches and buttons...
One of notorious ones was "Shadow of the Beast" series. It was praised to high heaven back in the day, but the gameplay was downright abysmal. Any game that make itself broken and unbeatable but make you realize that much later is just bad design.
