The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

A beatiful black lady with a voice to die for
Warwick + Bacharach & David = perfection. R.I.P. Mr. Bacharach.
Ed Sullivan called Dionne Warwick "Diane" twice..., 👏😂 !!!
Mrs Warwick sings "live" on this one and it's to me, the best performance ever! Now, this is a first class performance by a classy woman! I am still moved by this song, after all these years. Her voice is wonderful, the lyrics are beautiful and the music is perfect! I miss the '60s so much. Thank you, Dionne Warwick!
Beautiful dress.
I think that is a dress by the Italian designer Pucci who was famous for his brightly colored psychedelic patterns. Dionne was very fond of them
And hair 😍
Yes I want one.
Yes....very feminine
That dress!!🤩🤩🤩
I pity the young people of today.. we were inundated by the greatest singers, songwriters and musicians of all time as young people growing up in the 50s, 60s and 70s. The music was crisp and clean, no filth and the lyrics weren't challenging or boastful. The music made the journey as it took you from the beginning through the middle and straight to an end all the time full of beautiful violins, pianos and horns... today's music is sadly disposable paper..so few true legendary songs.
Wow. Almost brought manly tears to my eyes lol. Dionne's singing is mesmerizing. Love this song!
Love her since I was a child, beautiful voice.
ICON! Incredible Voice! I really miss this kind of talent & artistry.
Ed Sullivan opened up his heart to a new generation of musicians and comedians, even though he himself was already in his late 60's by the time these shows aired. He pushed boundaries by bringing on black artists and black soul onto the program. He blasted the Temptations, Supremes, Dionne, Sam & Dave, Tina Turner, Smokey Robinson, Four Tops, Glady's Knight into American homes in every region of the country, and gave controversial artists like Janis Joplin and Rolling Stones a mainstream platform and recognition to lift them into a prosperous career. At one point in time Ed Sullivan had his fingers on the heartbeat of America where everyone tuned in to hear and see the next cultural phenomena. It's amazing how much at his age he gave to the next generation of Americans. Truly a generous man he was.
Yes. He was older. His show was originally called "The Toast Of The Town" and had begun in 1948 in black-and-white film. Later on it became "The Ed Sullivan Show" and remained on the air until 1971. That was a 23 year long show. He passed on in 1974. He did even feature Elvis Presley early on, but the cameras would not show the pelvic movements, as that was controversial in the 1950s and he was referred to as "Elvis The Pelvis."
As for the Rolling Stones, he did not let them do "Let's Spend The Night Together," as it was too suggestive.
How times have changed.
@@jasonburger3533 One word: demographics.
@@skip031890 You are very right about that.
Amen to everything you said he had the supremes on so frequently that one night as Mary Wilson said in an interview and I remember seeing him say it one he introduced the supremes by saying here they are the girls It took guts back then to challenge bigotry but going beyond race I loved the fact that young people got chance to see the legends from our parents day and they got a chance to see the performers that young people liked it sort of closed the generation gap a little bit Ed was a blessing
The Stones did sing that song on Sullivan, but they had to tweak the lyrics to Let’s Spend Some Time Together. Jagger being the economics grad he was obliged, but clearly rolled his eyes once while performing it. Doing the Stones to be on Sullivan multiple times. Contrast that with The Doors who refused to tweak Light My Fire. Outraged, Sullivan never had them on the show again.
So many memories of the instant this popped up on the TV and everybody ran through the house, yelling to get in the living room to see a black artist performing on Ed Sullivan's show.
I love this lady. She really took control of this song and effortlessly changed it up. If you sing, you know her level of talent. Wow 🤩
Yes. You must be a fellow singer, as well to appreciate that making one's own interpretation of a hit song unique is always commendable. Check it Out! Ciao!!!
I don't sing, but I have a great ear and I know good singing when I hear it. I totally agree with you.
Dionne Warwick I love you.. you are truly a blessing and a legend.
What a voice, what a lady!
Just amazing… she captures the 60’s perfectly.
Terrific song of Burt Bacharach.
Dionne Warwick version, pure gold.
Pacific Coast Highway drive, from Santa Monica to Malibu...
I’m never gonna get to do that. All of a sudden I’m sad. Going to die without ever visiting California.
@@jeffreyshuster4482 I got to do it once, in 1970 as a young teenager with my parents, but from LA to San Fran. Hope you get to go once in your life, and hope I can get back there for a revisit!
we have one more Dionne performance! Please share some more! We got plenty of The Supremes, but not enough Dionne!
yes move aside diana ross....this is Dionne's moment..hehe
Perfection.
Less than 18 months after Herb Alpert’s smash hit with this song, Dionne’s version went to number 2!
Great singer. Always enjoyed her music.
That was incredible. Audible and visual bliss.
I neeeeed this dress

Pure Elegance
extraordinary ! and what a beautiful dress!
You go girl, love you 😍...
the fact that Ed mispronounces her name is criminal- but how can you not love her singing ?
You caught that too 😂
He pronounced her real Name, Dionne Warrick not Warwick
@@jorgecarrillo2 -that is good to know but i was referring to her first name..lol
He struggled with it for ages!
@@jorgecarrillo2He clearly says "Diane" twice
She had such a Great voice, that one really felt she meant what she said in her songs. Beautiful!

🤔ALWAYS MOVED ME AS LIL BOY HER OVERALL BEAUTY AND VERY UNIQUE AND DISTINCTIVE VOCALS INDEFINITELY TOP TIERED FOR LIFE‼😉
I remember watching this on tv. I was 13 years old, totally in love with her and everything she sang. Still am and now pushing 66. ♥️
I was born in 1962. This is when i fell in love with Dionne Warwick .Calmness in my life .Because my house was chaotic .
Wow. That's the span of Dionne's entire recording career, is it not? Only saw her once in Oct 1999: sublime, stylish, elegant, poised.
The effortless extraordinary vocals of one singer and that is: Ms. Iconic Dionne Warwick!!!!
Very distinctive voice
Dionne Warwick and Herb Alpert both did excellent versions of this song. Burt Bacharach wrote all her hits I believe.
On this day in 1969 {February 23rd} "This Girl's In Love With You" by Dionne Warwick peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Easy Listening chart, for the two weeks it was at #2, the #1 record for those two weeks was "I've Gotta Be Me" by Sammy Davis, Jr.
"This Girl's In Love With You" reached #7 {for 3 weeks} on Billboard's Top 100 chart...
Between 1963 and 1989 the Orange, New Jersey native had forty-five records on the Easy Listening/Adult Contemporary chart, twenty-seven made the Top 10 with four reaching #1...
Nine of her forty-five charted records were duets; two with Jeffery Osborne and one each with The Spinners, Johnny Mathis, Luther Vandross, Glenn Jones, Barry Manilow, Kashif, and Howard Hewitt...
Dionne Warwick, born Marie Dionne Warrick, celebrated her 80th birthday two months ago on December 12th, 2020...
And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the Easy Listening Top 10 on February 23rd, 1969:

#10. "A Minute of Your Time" by Tom Jones
That you for the historical musical facts..lol
...'DIANA' Warwick!??? (0:16) ...Don't let Miss DIONNE hear THAT!! ...ha-HAAA!! ...Dionne's "cover" of the Herb Alpert smash, where it was one of the first earliest instances of a 'cover' matching the chart success of the original (Herb, #1 Pop in 1967, Dionne, #7 Pop in 1969)....LUV Dionne's 'Psychedelic Champagne' Dress...🤩
Many of Dionne Warwick sung songs were covers in the early years. "Alfie," for example, had been recorded by 42 others before she made it a hit in 1967. Cher had done the American movie version in 1966, by the way, while several other notables had recorded it before she did. She performed it at the 1967 Academy Awards, though, not Cher, as the Dionne Warwick version had soared up the charts.
Such a lady, Miss Dionne.
What a voice.
She owns me.
One of the best, Dionne was awesome. Best singer ever....I will listen to her until end times....
That would be now.
Such clarity with that voice. Beautiful!
I agree ed sullivan opened up America to black singers.America would never have heard this music. He took a big chance during an era that was so open to this variety if music.
what an incredible voice. iconic. pure class. never be another Dionne
From Diva to the internet's favorite aunty. Aunty Dionne. A versertile queen
Love this, since childhood days.
Such a terribly fantastic dress.
Aretha-Queen of Soul/Gladys-Empress of Soul and here the Princess of Pop.
This made me tear up for some reason and that rarely happens to me
In contrast to Shirley Bassey's appearance of Ed in Jan 1969 (2 months before) Dionne Warwick's performance here is BRILLIANT! Bassey sung Goin Out of My Head.
Wow. One of the best things about Dionne is when she ad libs melody lines on the spot. So impressive, this vocal. Doesn't hurt her that she is a theory musician. Would love Dionne to post something of her playing piano and singing along with it, to You Tube. She's going back on tour in 2024 after winning the Kennedy Honor award. I saw her live in New Orleans decades ago, will never forget that. One of my favorite singers.
Wow!! Beautiful voice & beautiful song ❤️
Never heard this tune before, what a lovely performance. So glad to get to experience these moments from the iconic Ed Sullivan Show over half a century later!
Herb Alpert originally sang this song.
I think Herb Alpert wrote it too.
@@jeannettepainter6361 no, it wasn't. It was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.
Welcome to planet Earth!
@@bhodges00 Herb Albert did "This Guy's In Love With You," the male version. Dionne Warwick was one of many female singers to have done the female version and had a hit with that to add to her others.
Herb Alpert is in his mid-80s and still active in the industry.
Take a bow
Dionne can sing that song better than Nancy Sinatra sorry sing that song Dionne Warwick I love you
Dionne sang those F5 notes effortlessly!!!!
She was a fabulous mezzo in her prime
I can see Dionne written all over Whitney.
ABSOLUTELY!!!
Absolutely 💯 true!!
YESSS
YUP - Whitney really studied Dionne
Daniel Agidee, Whitney was ok but as a singer, she was nowhere near Dionne. No way.
What a beautiful soul. I love the dress. My dad used to play this song on his Zenith Hi -Fi ....LOL
.... and look at this old guy.... watching this.... the notes and her voice throwing me back over the years.... willing or not.... there I go the memories bringing tears to my eyes ! God.. Those years were good..... The girl I ached so for way back then still sleeps in my bed... What a lucky man I am... I smile.... the years printing happy wrinkles across this old face. You remember !?
Es de mis cantantes favoritas... Una voz preciosa y su interpretación exquisita. Fuera de serie.
The very best
She blew me away back then. Still does. Total class. Ed Sullivan brought us so much.
Beautiful voice
Another classic!
Legend
Incredible ....looks great and sings great
When she sings, I'm transported back to the 60's of my early childhood. My mind knows these songs because they were on the car radio, in the department stores, etc, but I wasn't aware, although I did know Dionne Warwick, she was ubiquitous.
Fantastic vocal performance by Dionne. The Herb Alpert version is (or rather was) the definitive version, but this one is just as good.
So classy, such a unique styling of the lyrics, and that voice! No pretense and a pure pleasure to listen to her heartfelt songs.
I had a tape or record of Dionne Warwick and liked every song in the Album. I was a real big fan of Dionne and often played the music which gave me enjoyment when playing. I guess Iiked the music of Burt Bacharach.
Excellent 👍
I saw her thing this song, almost 60 years after it being recorded, I just saw legend
Had this song for my first dance at my wedding in ‘86.

Yes, a wonderful video, but too short, not the whole song.
Beautiful voice.
This version was just trudging along until she took it up an octave. Then the Dionne magic happened.
Just a 10yr old, but how good were those years.
Fine looking soul sister, she was stunning.
first time hearing this and its spectacular. she is just perfect. the entire thing. UNREAL. god her voice!! and those cheekbones!!! that dress is a suprise and im here for it. 💗💗💗

Love her. Also another beautiful version of this song sang by Herb Albert.
What a beautiful song by a beautiful woman
Oh my GOD! TOO beautiful 😇
The voice control on this lady lol
Her voice is like fine silk.
