"By far one of the best"? Does that even make sense? If it is one of the best, it is in between the pack, and not far from anything. Get your comment game together bro. . This is THE best built by them.
Lots of great info in the small talk between tuner and customer at the beginning, lots of people don't understand that. I love that part about safety, hp numbers, and how to keep a engine running for a long time. Thank you for breaking it down for some of the ricers out there.
It’s so awesome to see the M3 in action! Really great job guys. The first video of Pete talking about buying a car from a swamp is how I discovered Speed Academy. It has been a great journey and I’m so stoked that it has turned out just the way you wanted it. I for one am very grateful for all the hard work that you guys have put into making content for us. Cheers to Dave, Pete and all the team at Speed Academy for building this wicked machine. You are all legends!
Pete's face at the end of the video makes it for me. The hundreds of man hours spent working and researching came together in Pete's pull. Cars can be such a headache but they bring such a unique joy. This might be my favorite build of all time. Major props and respect to Pete, Dave, Vinh, and everyone else involved.
Love this channel so much, Dave just gives off a bad vibe, Pete just seems like an awesome genuine person who does legitimate work while Dave makes small pits at him doesn't seem to do that much. Idk, might just be me, but Pete just honestly seems like such a nice and awesome person as he seemingly genuinely loves the audience.
It's awesome seeing someone be able to drive one of their dream builds for the first time. I literally binged watched this entire build in a day. The JRZ suspension alone is enough to make me drool.
Nice numbers! Realistic pump numbers and outstanding hi-oc numbers. Great to see you happy!!! I would also crazy happy with a nice car like that. On all my RBs and JZs (2.0, 2.5, 2.6, 2.8, 3.0 versions I had over the years) I always set “low boost” to 20psi, “high boost” to 23psi and 10 second scramble to 25psi then found safe timing. I found if I set low boost too low then I stay in high boost all the time and if I set high boost too low then I’d lose and get pissed-off. Scramble is there to eleminated all excuses... “oh I could’ve won if I turned boost up 2psi but I want to save my engine” type excuses I tell myself. Of course, when I was working in Japan for a small parts manufacturer in the Nissan group that made parts for NISMO, TRD, Greedy, Top Secret, etc.. & our own line of parts (technically our parts had Nissan part numbers which was cool). The max we set customer cars RB26/28s was 19psi (1.3bar). I wonder why it’s not spooling sooner. Maybe cam timing could gain 400-600rpm quicker spool. Not that it really matters. Oh and I noticed you stopped at 7,000prm. Did you try revving it a little higher and realized it wasn’t making power above 7,000? Or was it a conservative choice regardless of losing 200-300 rpm powerband? What a great car. M3 & Celica are my favorite builds so far although S2000 & S14 are sweet. Looking forward to JDM Legends series. Thank you for producing clean honest wholsome drama-free fun entertainment. You guys are really nice people. God Bless.
The moment I put coilovers, PSS tires, and supercharged my E46 M3 6spd manual, was the moment I knew I would never own another car, outside of a Porsche, that could handle the way it did with so much driver connectivity. The E46 M3’s chassis is so incredible!!
Thank you for the ride along in one of the projects. We really like hearing the feedback and are here to learn. I think for all of us we are here to learn. Get/stay techie please.
Hey Guys, No need to defend yourselves from some notion that this car needs to make some 800whp or something. If you've ever been to the track, you know that you don't need that much power to run fast lap times ... you need balance, predictability, and confidence. This is such an awesome build. I cant wait to see some beauty shots, sound clips, and this thing tearing into a corner! Great job, guys!
That is awesome! You guys have the right though process. Irs about the drivability and how well it can be controlled. Ive beennin 600 700hp evos and the spool was soooooo long, but then it hits and you have to shift almost immediately....it kinda kills it. Great build!
As far as the shifter setup. You need solid or very stiff mounts for both motor and transmission for body mounted shifters to work correctly. The motor/trans is twisting and your shifter is not causing a misalignment when you shift.
Incredible, so cool to see it done! Finally running well on the dyno:)) it also confirms to me somewhat that 300hp is already ALOT, maxing RWD around 500hp to control. I run about 300hp FWD with a locking difff. That is the max with a sports car (not track) suspension on the road to me, it his the limit of traction in dull corners with 70% throttle. This M3 is such a bigger monster, so capable being RWD. It’s going to be a fun fight to master this on the track 😁 contratz guys!!!
Please put a strut tower brace on that. I know the 2JZ looks so good unobstructed but your front end is heavier, you got tighter suspension, and more grip than stock. This chassis is notorious for braking the strut towers. A light track day is all it takes in this config. The strut mount reinforcement plate may not be enough because it could crack towards the bottom because of lateral forces.
Beautiful combination! Dave better get a legit super car... best YT channel ever! You guys have worked so hard and really made a channel with great content.
I have serious doubts a 470whp e46 will even beat a proper sports car like C7 Z06 let alone a real super car like McLaren 720S. If they had used E85 and tuned it to 620whp like he said then it had real potential to be super car killer.
The way Sasha describes the Area under the curve vs Peak Power is hilariously similar to Powerlifters/Bodybuilders and Athletes. Maximizing one extraneous aspect to the detriment of the performance of the whole system.
My dream builds have always been a honda civic eg hatch all wheel drive conversion with a boosted k20a2 and a e46 m3 with a 2jz. Love the build, hope it sticks around for a few years, I'll gladly watch you enjoy yours until I can build mine.
Congratulations! I smiled watching how much u enjoyed it. I love the e46 m3. Parting with my third e46m this week and this video is making me have second thoughts.
So nice to see it finally drive on the road, just a reminder for those who think 500+ WHP is low, keep in mind the 2019 BMW M3 is 425 HP at the CRANK !!!
Everything you said at the end was 100% on point. I've not built as many cars as you guys have numerically but I've been on the exact same journey. An ATS-V comparison would be really interesting :D
I’m pretty sure if you swap that intake out it’ll make more power because those sponge intakes are much more restrictive than conventional air intake like a k&n
As a Turbo E46 M3 owner (fully built s54), if you ran a better tire like a toyo R888 or r888r you’d hook 2nd gear easily. Probably even hook 1st gear from a roll.
Damn that pull looked so satisfying. This series has been my favorite so far and it's made me look at a few M3's lol. Should be exciting seeing what supercar shows up to the battle.
This car looks amazing. Super happy for you guys and how it turned out. My only reservation is with the shifting because it looks very tough to get into gear so I can't imagine trying to row through the gears on the track quickly. Hopefully it just needs an adjustment. Congrats!
Badass built! Sold my e46 m3 and still regret it to this day. I wanted to do a n54 swap on the e46 m3 and keep it around 500whp with linear power band. Maybe one day.
Put some detent’s in the box, will give you more option especially for street driving. Such a short throw is only going to give you issues when changing gears and on it.
Haha Pete man your smitten with that. Very jealous of the final result its fantastic. I love my S54 and I'll keep it but its nice to see what ye have achieved and what's actually possible.
Great job!! Really enjoyed the whole series 👌 so excited just as you!!! Waiting for a pov drive smashing it just trying to feel how it is to drive it! Love from Greece!
If anyone owns an E46 M3 6spd manual, and uses the car as a daily, but wants a more aggressive shifter, get the Autosolutions kit!!! Best short shifter out there period!!
Love the car and the build! Great video! Maybe I'm just a power hungry american but when you guys started this build as super car killer with a 2J I expected 700+whp as is standard out here lol. Regardless would kill to have this thing as is!
as someone who has thrown a rod in TWO bk1 3.8 motors i can assure you they are not a stout engine! stock tune stock everything ambient intake temps...
I had some trouble with getting the chassi mounted Coolerworx shifter to work consistently at firt due to the engine and gearbox moving while driving. Since the shifter is not mounted to the gearbox like with the original setup it can be "out of range" during shifting due to powertrain movement. The fix was to use engine and transmission mounts made of a less flexible compound. Maybe this is the problem that you are experiencing?
Beautiful Car and in my opinion the best Car-Engine combination possible Love it! Greetings from Germany, we do have 102 Ultimate (102 Octane) fuel on the Fuelstation :D
Great you are so happy with the car! Next time its maybe time for a BMW engine turbo build(in a supra to make the opposite if this maybe) ? Over here they are more common than 2JZ builds :)
Can't wait to see it on track! 500whp is pleeeenty... It'd be super fun pitting it against an S54 E46 with some choice mods, around 340whp, against this at TMP 😁.
Seeing Pete so happy when he hits that pull is wholesome af
It looked like he almost cried tears of joy.
Pete is the nicest most wholesome guy
It makes all the hard work worth it. Our hard work, that is.
Is wholesome a dam trend now? 🙄
i could tell he was finally happy with the results when he sprayed it on the driver window lol
By far one of the best cars you've built, love this setup.

Pull this
Perfect M3 😍
SooooOOoooOOoo good!
The uncontrollable grin after a pull on the hwy
really enjoyed hearing more pete than 2J that pull
Pete: woooooaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhwwwwwwwwww
His reaction was priceless!
bmw with 2jz great enjoy the new toy that reaction priceless
hahahahah so true
Pete: I'm worried about smoking the tires and putting this thing in a ditch 😐
Sasha: That is a valid concern 🤷♂️
just how casually sasha says it too haha

So many valid points made in this video about peak power vs. usable power... Pete's pull reaction was also priceless
Seeing Pete's face with these pulls puts the biggest smile on my face. I love this car guys!
The tuner is dope. He knows his stuff. Super informative.
you should check the nissan 350z he built, its a monster
you must be new here. welcome. sasha is a literal tuning god. among many things. please check out his channel
Love this channel so much, Dave just gives off a bad vibe, Pete just seems like an awesome genuine person who does legitimate work while Dave makes small pits at him doesn't seem to do that much. Toyota: We're going to put a BMW engine in our new Supra. Speed Academy: We're going to put an old Supra engine into a BMW.
15:28 fucking priceless! You can see the legit excitement in this man's face! This is what it's all about! I can't wait to complete my 2JZ E46 build!
Is that a reverse Supra??
Wow, Pete wasn't even that excited when he took his Porsche out for a drive. This car must be really special, damn
Yes the beast, 2JZ is a perfect swap for the M3
NEVERRRRR!!!!!
I would put better a M52 or S52 motor and stay BMW
The original engine is the perfect engine
@@OmarE36M3Turbo that's retatded,the s54 is better than those motors...
@@OmarE36M3Turbo wait m52?? M50 alot better

This has got to be my favourite street M3 build. I especially love the paint. Wow.
Just hands down praise! This car has been a lot of work to build, and it so aweomse to see how much you love it Pete!
This has been a great pay off! Thanks for spending the time explaining how important it is to get power for the chassis right. Love the build dudes!
The moment I put coilovers, PSS tires, and supercharged my E46 M3 6spd manual, was the moment I knew I would never own another car, outside of a Porsche, that could handle the way it did with so much driver connectivity. The E46 M3’s chassis is so incredible!!
Great heartfelt ending on this one Pete. Such a sweet build. Dave and you knocked it out of the park on this one. Can't wait to see it out at TMP.
That 2JZ sounds absolutely insane, so happy to see Pete driving the car after all this hard work. Great job Pete & Dave
Sasha is plotting the perfect m3 heist... his face says it all

I like this video style. You rarely just talk to the camera and discuss your thoughts on the car. It was really nice to hear you share your thoughts
Damn this thing is sick! You guys knocked it out of the park! Great to see you getting so excited in the hot seat Pete!
Really the best e46 swap on the RUclips! Perfect specs and power!
Giancarlo De Pasquale really 🤔 lol

We do have stiff mounts in the trans and engine so its not the issue. Seems like air in the system.
Such a epic build!!!! I think this is one of my top 3 builds you guy's have!!!
I absolutely love this series! You guys being Canadian is the cherry on top. Can't wait to see the next ep.

What a car! Awesome build, car, dudes building it, parts, production quality and logical explanation 🙌 Smashed it on this one

Dave is picking a supercar for the race

Beautifully executed as a tuner with a link g4
Congratulations! I smiled watching how much u enjoyed it. I love the e46 m3. Parting with my third e46m this week and this video is making me have second thoughts.
Glory on the track, not the dyno. Fun times on the track!

Best build so far by a mile!
U done good n u absolutely deserve it man. We all are speechless 🤞🤞
I’m pretty sure if you swap that intake out it’ll make more power because those sponge intakes are much more restrictive than conventional air intake like a k&n
As a e46 M3 owner that has a low mileage version... I would totally do this swap if it was a high mileage car. Awesome build guys.
What a car. Such an epic build. Well done!
Great engine & fantastic chassis... can’t ask for more...👍🏻
Saving that 2J for the right car was worth it!

This series has been awesome. Thank you for doing what you do.
The shifter seems like it needs just a bit more throw. Maybe you can adjust the pivot point? Love the build!
The best engine in the best chassis. Way to go!
Thats going to be a hand full at the track. Looking forward to seeing that.
This car looks amazing. Super happy for you guys and how it turned out. My only reservation is with the shifting because it looks very tough to get into gear so I can't imagine trying to row through the gears on the track quickly. Hopefully it just needs an adjustment. Congrats!

Everything about this car is perfection!
Congratulations on knocking out another great build!
Sasha seal of approval! Need I say more?
Can hear in your voice how pumped. Great when something works well
Haha Pete man your smitten with that. Very jealous of the final result its fantastic. I love my S54 and I'll keep it but its nice to see what ye have achieved and what's actually possible.

This turned out so good!
bad ass M3 2JZ ! great build
I would really like to build my e46 328i to be exactly like yours 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🏎⛽️🙅🏾♂️💯

holy shit that gear change looks incredible
Cool car. Really nailed it. I hope I see you out on the QEW one day :)
I love Pete's reaction
Since you're already using Link ECU, why not have Sasha put traction control on it to make it more drivable in lower gears?
This is super interesting, I’m just looking at remap options currently so very useful - great video 👍👍
