    As Americans, you should in no way judge people here for being the least laughing or unhappy. They don't have the pseudo-friendly fake attitude like in the US. I have lived here for 2 years and find the people far more authentic, not so superficial and also friendlier and more helpful than in US.....

      I think like many ex communist countries people think Americans are fake in their way of showing friendship
      Some of them are, but most Americans are friendly people they will smile to you and give you any information you need if you are a tourists. Americans love to make friends. Remember you need to be friendly if you want to make friends. As a teenager I can tell you one thing I like about Georgia girl is that when you smile to them, they smile back to you even if they don't know you. I was in Prague at ice cream place and a lady almost insult me because I smile to her. I was only eleven years old. That will never happen in the land of the Free. God blesses America!!

      I stayed in Georgia for a while and will be back soon and i must say I’ve never witnessed any racism there. Maybe some flagrant graffiti and there as there is in any country but never witnessed any people being mistreated for their ethnicity. Just my experience. If anyone should disrespect their land or customs, then of course they will react unkind them as anyone probably would but even then they have been tolerant. Im American by the way and never was. mistreated there. It would be nice for people to learn a few of the words in their language as it shows respect to at least try.

      @@mckaughnbrown5969 Georgians have saying, "When a guest comes to you, it is like a sunrise. When I a guest leaves it is like a sunset." This is how my generation grew up in Georgia. You are right, but I can't say the same thing about Americans. Not all of them, but I have bad experiences in the US. Back in January 1991, one of the guests at the party yelled at me, "Why are you here?" A couple of years later, I was invited to the New Years party. One of the guest tells me, "Why are you here?" Then a female guests says, "for women." I've many bad experiences in America. I wasted my life here. I can't get a Georgian citizenship to move back to Georgia. My guess is that westerners view us as an uncivilized and rough people like Stalin. That's fine! But the worst part is that America has lost moral values.

    • @mckaughnbrown5969
      @mckaughnbrown5969 8 месяцев назад +4

      first of all, I would like to apologize to you on behalf of all Americans who may have offended you. No one deserves that in any country. I have seen prejudices with my time here in Tbilisi as well but my husband is Georgian and his family are very good to me and when we leave to go to America together, my family will all treat him with the utmost respect and friends as well. I associate with friendly people only. I have had mostly positive experiences here and of course some negative too but that goes along with being a foreigner at times I guess. However, there wasn't any need for you to have been treated so rudely at the parties you attended in America. I have found that parties here are much more family oriented and even with alcohol, remain calm and peaceful. I can not always say the same for my own country. There are good and bad in all. I agree with you that a lot of our society in the U.S. has lost its moral compass and the administration at hand endorsing it all (allowing genitalia mutilation at such young ages and extremist ideology to be taught into schools and indoctrinate our children, ETC.) doesn't help but there are really good people there who are fighting to keep and preserve the values that our forefathers fought so hard for and I pray you will find a better America one day. I would treat all people with the respect they deserve, no matter the country or language spoken and if I ever met you or my family and friends did they would also treat you with kindness. May I ask where in America you are? sometimes, some states are friendlier than others. I am sure that could be said for any country though. Again, I am truly sorry for your unpleasant experiences in my country. That deeply saddens me! There are very good Americans, please do not give up on all of us! God bless you and I wish you a very good future and may your life and your family always be blessed~

    Tourists go to Georgia for 1 week and say "how good they have it" Please don't be ignorant, you have no idea what Georgians and other Post-USSR regions have gone through. Rest of the video was great but that was pretty shallow. You were there for 1 week, experiencing tourist hospitality and tourist attractions. There's much more to life than restaurants and scenery, everyone else has had years and years of struggles previously and still feel it through their day-to-day life as their history has formed where they are today.

      As an informed American, please accept my apologies.
      These are nice people but they are the typical ignorant American who follows a lot of mainstream thought and customs.
      She implied "salt is bad for my heart" which gives it away.
      They are likely vegetarians too, so they are on "that side" of politics, which means they see racism everywhere.
      They represent the typical version of how people see "ignorant Americans," which makes me want to shrink into a ball of humiliation when I'm in a foreign place.
      They probably voted for Biden and think the world is full of "good guys and bad guys" and they base this upon how blindly welcoming individuals appear.
      They think all immigrants are "seeking asylum" from some imaginary "bad guy" who frowns at them.
      I would have frowned at them too. I am with the Georgians who frowned. We are both on "team frown" when it comes to these kinds of Americans.

    Driving - yes, we're notorious for having crazy drivers.
    Expenses - yes, they've skyrocketed since Influx of Russians and Ukrainians.
    Racism - Not really, you'll probably experience more Racism in Europe than here, you can find bad apples everywhere.
    Unsmilling and miserable people - Most of us, especially men don't smile for no reason, most guys walk around with serious expression, only time you'll catch us smiling and laughing in public is if we're with friends/family/loved ones. While yes, a lot of people are suffering from poverty, doesn't mean everyone who doesn't smile is automatically miserable, I walk around with frowning expression most of the time, but when someone talks to me my expression changes. if you wanna see a Georgian smile, talk to them and use a little bit of Georgian, you'll see the expression change dramatically. (unless the person is actually miserable, or they're in a bad mood)

      Hi Luka, thanks for your comment! Just to clarify, we don't expect people to smile at us for no reason. What happened many times is that we would smile at people and even say hello (gamarjoba) and there would be no response back at all. We thought that was odd, especially because we have heard (many times by Georgians) that they are some of the most friendlier and hospitable people so we found that to be a disconnect. And as mentioned it happened multiple times. Of course, we still met amazing and friendly Georgians but it wasn't often.

Narikala fortress was also built by Iberians at the end of the 4th century. In Georgia's history only Georgians and Romans have built fortifications, Persians and Ottomans have used already built fortifications during occupation periods or they have renovated some older fortifications.

      @@jacklinekarwitha9413 I went to Tibilisi this Summer in September. I really haven't expected this much racism in Europe in 2023. Wow! it started actually in the airport. They spot the only black person (me) to check my passport as I'm exiting the airport. We already pass through passport controls and random police women spot me and asked me to show here my passport. I've European passport and I traveled several places without any question. But I asked here why only me? she said, she check just a random person. In the supermarkets and Restaurants I experienced unfortunately obvious unfairness repeatedly. As a solo traveler security is questionable. First the Taxi driver from the airport took like 60 Euro. 3 times more than the actual tourist price and he left me 15 minutes walk before my hotel. He told me he can't drive through. That was a lye. There are street magician women in the middle of tourist area. I was being friendly to refuse their offer and I gave them few cash without their service. They harass me and robbed me in the middle of the street. I refused to read my palm and to do any of their things. Those were brutal and the really reach in my purse and took about 300 Gel. I love the country landscape. There are also many nice people there.

      I'm sure it is not everyone. We cannot look at a few experiences and say it is 'everyone' in an entire country is bigoted like that. However, it truly makes a bad impression, to someone like me who dreams of going to Georgia and possibly living there
      And, for my part - as someone who would easily blend in in Georgia visually by looking at me BUT is actually mixed of many cultures. This makes me very nervous that hate and racism is possibly more common than usual in other Western countries and tolerated.
      Recently I have heard stories like these from 3 other bloggers of their experiences in Georgia.
      If you are Georgian, you should be angry at racists and hatful negative citizens. Because it stops respectful and gentle people coming and supporting your country. (It actualluy attracts houligans and other unsavory tourists who who are not put off by people being treated unjustly.)
      So tolerating prejudice and hatred is harming your economy. Acting like it is no big deal instead of taking what they said seriously (or even defending bad behavior - you are just being 'normally friendly'.) is only hurting Georgia.

    Georgians have the old adage, "When a guest comes to you, it is like a sunrise. When I guest leaves, it is like a sunset." I would hear these words when people toast guests at the party. In the Soviet times, the city was clean, and would never see graffiti. Times have changed. The country had to go through wars and starvation since the Soviet Union broke up. Also, Georgians learned new things in other countries, and as Americans say, behavior breeds behavior. Today, people have forgotten what our ancestors taught us. That is why guests are not as important as they were once in Georgia.

    As a Georgian, I agree when it comes to people not taking care of the place as well as they should. But when it comes to not smiling, keep in mind you visited during a very tense political time. A lot of Georgians are fighting in Ukraine, and most of us (rightfully) believe that after Ukraine, Georgia will be the next to get invaded. Also, Tbilisi was flooded by Russian migrants and the prices went up so much that a lot of the locals were priced out of the city. It created a lot of vitriol towards the tourists, especially Russians. I guess the pissed-off half of the people you saw are the ones that struggled the most. The reviews you read about warmth and hospitality likely pre-date the war. I do hope it's just a rough patch and when the war ends Georgians can go back to their usual care free, friendly selves.

      Hi!! Georgian here, I can assure you from what I've seen myself and heard Georgians are NOT racist! (Just when it mostly comes to russians nowadays, when they tried to pass a law here.) We are very welcoming people, believing every guest is sent from God to us! There is still a chance you guys might get stares , but it would probably be just from very older people, most of us tend to mind our business. In georgian we have a word referring to a person with dark skin, it begins with z. People mostly use it as a form of saying dark skinned/black person, some take this offensively some don't, many Georgians don't realize and aren't educated some slaves were reffered by that word since it was used in both context. I guess it just lost its meaning over the many years. One of georgias territories, abkhazia had many African-Georgians/ afro-abkhazians (you can search it up) ❤ If you do come I hope you and your family experience a great time ❤

    I've gotten pings about comments back and forth for a while. I want to say something that I think people are missing and I think will help:
    A lot of people are complaining and being defensive about the "not smiling" aspect. It is not so much about people not smiling. (Although, Eastern and Central Europe does have a reputation for this and even as a not-very-American American, who has lived in Britain most of my life, smiling is actually very much appreciated).
    *It's the "white power" and swastikas reported in Tbilisi. THAT is the problem.* I have actually heard racism is a problem in Georgia recently from 3 different vloggers/bloggers. Now I'm not pointing fingers. There is a ton of racism in America. It is a problem in my country. However, if you speak about it, most decent Americans will denounce it and say, although it's a problem, those people are idiots. They don't speak for the average American. And something like blatant white supremacy or Nazism is embarrassing for the average person - even if they aren't saints.
    That so many Georgians are replying by saying: "Ah, well Americans are loud" rather than instead condemning Nazism, or reassuring us who want to go there. that is what is worrying...It is not so much the not smiling. Racism (and especially angry violent racists like white supremacists) is frightening to people. As a single female who is considering moving to Georgia, even though I would blend in visually myself, not seeing Nazi mentality as abhorrent is not something I want to be surrounded by. The worry that the average Georgian would not see "white power" or a swastika as absolutely unacceptable sends alarm bells. So now I'm thinking, maybe I should consider some other country. So it is more of a problem for Georgia, because decent people who bring their tourist money and easy smiles will start to avoid Georgia if this reputation grows
    You know who WILL bring their money to Georgia? People who have no respect for Georgia and only coming to your country for the wonderful tax benefits. People who are coming to suck up whatever they can from Georgia and give back as little as they can... Foreigners who don't see a problem with "white power" and swastikas plastered on walls in Georgia are not good for Georgia.
    I'll also say, that yes Americans smile a lot and we tend to be enthusiastic! We get bashed for it, because people think we are being insincere. Most of us (as far as I know) actually mean it. I suppose some who are being insincere, but they are wrong. The average person will denounce insincerity as wrong. Those who do not - you need to watch out for them.
    When you ignore the most important part of the discussion (ignoring the issue of violent people who are a serious threat to the well-being of our world) and instead defend the smaller issue of not openly demonstrating friendliness (not smiling easily), good people who are foreigners interested in coming to Georgia get a subtle but very bad message. Although most people aren't nerds like me and won't take the time to write and express it.
    As far as tourists are concerned all Georgians have to say is: "Those people are wrong. They do not represent me and they do not represent my beautiful country." Instead, the indirect message many of us are hearing is you don't have a problem Nazis sentiment in your country.

      I'm not going to change your mind about not visiting but I find it funny that the country is still ranked as one of the safest but ''nazi mentality'' is the dealbreaker for you to be safe. If some scribbled swastikas by edgy teenagers on the wall scare you, I would not want to be in your shoes. I can not imagine living like that. I'm not fond of them either but so what if we're not super sensitive about it? Having it your way doesn't really help in your country does it? Even with all that graffiti and laid back attitude on it here, America(and many western countries) still beats Georgia with its white supremacists per capita. Don't even get me started on mass shootings.

    • @TatyanaValdaBelindaHill
      @TatyanaValdaBelindaHill 7 месяцев назад

      @@arch5701 Again, that you and many have such a blazé attitude about the worst murderers, torturers, evil people in history is what is scary. White supremacists, are a tiny minority in the world but I have met enough. They are dangerous. Ironically on each occasion, these have been people who have treated me wonderfully! The sort of people who would go out of their way to help me and welcomed me into their home...
      The loveliest people... until they start talking about 'Nxxxers' and Jews and how they should all die. Although it doesn't show it to look at me, when both of these heritages are in MY blood (and even if it wasn't) I don't want to have to be looking over my shoulder or losing sleep ... Or being afraid if certain members of my family visit, how they may be treated.
      Great for you that you obviously are not in the situation - but sad you cannot empathise why that would be scary. So no, you wouldn't want to be in my shoes... or in a black person or Jewish person's shoes.
      As I said, I have been planning on buying a home in Georgia - that is too big an investment if it is a significant problem. And why would I think it is a problem - apart from people speaking about it???
      BECAUSE => Instead of people denouncing and denying: "We Georgians are NOT like that, those were a tiny minority and we are ashamed of them..... The vast majority of us don't agree with them." ...
      Instead what I am hearing from people in the region speaking up about this (and foreigners who are the type of people who are not nice tourists who would be beneficial for the country) is it is not something that matters. You are more upset by people thinking you do not smile enough: "So what, what's the big deal about Nazis and white supremacists? Whi cares."....
      "So what if we are not super sensitive about it" - as you said
      That you have no sensitivity to that (and that is mainly what I've heard from people who appear to be from the region) that is the problem.
      Maybe it would be scary for you if you were actually part black or part jew in your blood (or people you loved) were.

      Racism in US and Georgia is different, we are only 3 million people left, always trying to survive its entire existence. What we call it in Georgia is more like survival of nationality.. ironically it's because of the country's tolerance towards all sorts of people for centuries.. We are very mixed and have different religions, but we live quite peacefully when the situation allows. Georgia accepted about 300 black slaves voluntarily after slavery ended and helped them integrate within society, I specify black because not only black people in history have been slaves. For example, we ourselves have experienced being sold as slaves by Ottomans.. Considering we have had a hybrid regime in the country late years we do have one small group of people who have their own political party nowadays who use this symbolism and are financed by Russia, that's how I explain such graphities but this is so unnatural for us, I think once electing a new government in October and Russia finally not affording to finance this so-called party they will just start disappearing.. As an average Georgian (even though I'm just the average Georgian amongst the ones who speak some English) the reason why such graphyties don't worry me is that to me it has always been art, well now I found out there is actually some Nazi symbolism, of course, it worries me/irritates me and people who do that must not get away with it! and we as a society have to be cautious of such people and their actions. One symbolism on the graphity and a couple of Nazi people does not make a whole nation Nazies, even if it did it would just not make sense because we are Georgians. If anybody should be anti-nazy it's us. Respectfully, Nina

      Actually swastikas and all that stuff started appearing after the war started and russian started pouring in, russians like to blame small countries for being nazi and invade them, im not saying all georgian are saints trust me, but tbilis is in top safest cities in the world and has been for a long time, and there are no racist violent crimes reported like ever. Its just that since the war started suddenly eith more russians there is more and more grsfittis and misinformation going around about georgia. Historivally the main hub for the silk road, and beside war georgian wouldnt even harm enemy nationslities russian persians turks and so on lived in tbilis so did other groups like jews azeri armenian etc.. plus the last 15 years increased number of indian and african students in lsrge numebrs, tbose who lived in georgia for years, and a huge majority enjoys it more than 1k africans speak georgiam. Not everybody is perfect but at least theres no school shootings and overall safety issues, no organised crime btw, all georgian orgwnised mafia is ruling europe snd post soviet zones, georgia is inaccessable to them.

    • @3010Olga
      @3010Olga 7 месяцев назад

      The flights cost a fortune and it’s often more than one day to get to Georgia so if you’re working your days off spent travelling. Most western websites aren’t that cheap and pre booking is safer and more reliable. Plus many report western cards not necessarily accepted in Georgia when you’re in the country, mobile phones don’t work so there’s a lot to organise and pay in advance. And than you may find some cash prices might inflate just as you walk or talk, language and customs barriers don’t help so tourists end up paying more- I wouldn’t think overall to consider Georgia as a cheap country to visit as a tourist! Many told me it’s a rip off 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it’s a well worth it and still enjoyable trip. Maybe Georgia could be more tourist friendly since tourism contributes to the economy of a country and actually helps everyone in the country in the end ❤ though tourists never been smart 😂it makes them tourist 👍 treat them like silly kids if they misbehave just don’t smack them 😅I will soon join that row and wondering if I survive as ethnic russian from ukraine with british passport visiting georgia for few days🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ god, help me and keep me safe 🤞
