Arcade1Up NBA Jam XL Shaq Edition Review - Is Bigger Better? The NBA Jam XL Shaq Edition is Arcade1Up's second cabinet in the XL line and first 4 player cab. Is this new seemingly upgraded model offer enough value to choose over the original 3/4 scale or should you consider replacing yours? Does the screen present the same quality concerns as the19" monitor in the Golden Tee 3D XL Cabinet? And did the decision to brand the cabinet after the Big Diesel make more sense then recreating the original Cabinet?

It has the cabinet design all A1up cabinets at min should the base cabinet going forward. The game look like alot of fun. The cab looks dimensionally very similar to the Legends Ultimate... Not a fan of the speaker holes, and you are right side art and no coin door, they just need to put it all together, pro+xl and ips monitors.

If I worked for Arcade1up I would have used the hidden players as replacement characters instead of using duplicates. There are a lot of secret players they could have used, even air Morris, Stephen Howard, and Tony Scott who were real ballers would have been great. Hell they could even added new players if they want
I love the one piece side panel and no riser. A1UP would be moving in the right direction if future cabs are like this. Good review. 👍🏻

You complain too much
Just came back to this review from 10 months ago to say I was wrong. Everything should be XL moving forward. I originally advocated for 3/4-scale, but these cabs are only about 3.25" wider than the 3/4-scale, and SO much better looking. I won't buy anything but XL in the future.
I agree before arcade 1up I collected the Cabernet cabs so I love the 3/4 ones more home efficient
I love that "not as bad" is the stanard 1up is judged by.
Great video, Michael B.. I agree with all the issues that Nba Jam XL has, I would like to have seen one game with the XL version because there is any value in this cab! I hope in the Pro series arcade1up would have NBC NBA showtime game and, plus, Michael Jereffy Jordan in all four games (NBA Jam, NBA Jam tournament edition, Nba Hangtime and NBA Showtime) and his silhouette on the cab! That would be a day Zero buy for myself and die hard fan...

£700 here in the uk, It cant be justified with a washed out monitor, no speaker grills and no coin door. The controls are not spaced put for 4 players along with cheap buttons. Meh its a step backwards for a premium price. This company needs to do way better in my opinion, they cant even fix the lag on mvc2, its exactly the same as before the update lol.

I hope going forward every A1U cab is now using the XL size and they move away from the riser-based design. I agree with you 100% that going forward, XL/Pro is the only size I will consider.
Great review Mike, no coin door is almost as bad as that TN monitor.
I hate that there were no prequels to Hangtime, it was such a great upgrade to NBA Jam on any level. With one more Hangtime we'd have prime Kobe and Iverson in the game, and maybe Jordan, Barkley and Shaq.
Could’ve just released the old classic games with current rosters would’ve been cool

The thing I hate the most about the Arcade 1-up cabinets is the screen. The side view angels or even moving your head slightly creates a washed out image.

Thinking about getting one and installing the kickplate backward to avoid the shaq art…
I was able to get the 3/4 version from Walmart for $199 so I see no reason to "upgrade". I'm a fan of Arcade1up ( I have 2 3/4 units, 1 Countercade, and 2 Partycades) but they really only make sense to pick up when they're on heavy discount especially with the huge price increases the past year or so. Otherwise they feel grossly overpriced for what you get IMO. For $700 the monitor and controls should be premium.

I picked this up as a joke Valentines gift for my fiancé since she’s a huge basketball fan(I bought her some nice things for VD as well. It was actually cheaper after a 20% discount code and free shipping than the original cab which is only available from their other suppliers that don’t accept the code and don’t offer free shipping. Very happy to put this in my collection

Great one of have in the collection. I’d like a coin door but oh well. I was hesitant about the monitor, but it seems like every 1up I want ends up having a crappy monitor. Maybe we’ll find a good replacement sometime. Fun game to have a collection. I needed a sports one since there are so many fighting arcades available.
Only thing that would have made that cab better is if the marquee said Shaq Jam. Nice review.

Must admit does look gd without the riser... more traditional style... we don't get to many arcade 1up cabs here in the UK. But I'm hope the ridge racer 1 comes over next year.

Tbh they need 2 make a modern day or all time team (EX:Derrick Rose & Jordan) nba jam instead of having duplicates and having ppl don’t want 2 play as
Just watched 3 dweebs shit on a1ups. Are they perfect, no but from someone who used to own 10 full size machines they are a nice easy way to recreate an arcade at home. Glad to see you're still producing content on them. Some people want to fill their arcade with 40 year old time bombs, others just want a nostalgic blast free of headaches.
I don't mind the side art at all.

Arcade 1up.... make 1/1 arcade cabinets!
The white Shaq silhouette is terrible. I definitely prefer arcade accurate side panel art but even if Shaq’s real picture was on there it would look so much better.
I still can’t believe they went w/ these crappy monitors on these much better cabinets. It’s just stupid. Fortunately you can easily swap it out (horizontal ones anyways.. the pac-mania & dig dug seem to be a lost cause)
