The reason they just popped up this morning is because of an agreement that nobody would release too much information about the VW Buzz until today at 9 AM.
People will buy it nonetheless. There is no car like this one and the features like Electro-Chromatic glass roof, heated front, passenger seat, power slide door are standard on the First Edition models. It s not car for everyone in this current model but people will buy it because of the reason mentioned. I forgot: ventilated, heated massaging front seat as standard. Not to mention build quality is on point as well as ride quality, you hear that Tesla ?
That is one cooool ride. I love it! Maybe I'll get one on the used market in a few years though, as that MSRP is a bit rich for my blood. I could tell Danger was really pumped for this video, haha. Nice timepiece Mike!!!
You know what, I like it but… what has me still on the fence is, MPG range/charging (because the US isn’t ready for plug in full time) and wish it was a HEV. But very impressive.
Cons: 1. no NACS 2. 230 mile range 3. high price (per spec) 4. Cargo floor is way too high 5. All specs/features are lame Pros: 1 looks amazing Will I buy it? I would love to get one, its a minivan, would've been a nice replacement for my 2007 Odyssey, but specs and price makes it the worst EV purchase on the market. I get it, this is VW sponsored video, but for real minivan owners it sucks.
@@Muffinman9 honestly, if they had NACS, that would've been great and instant I WANT minivan... even with 350 miles of range, without proper charging infrastructure it won't be great
I can’t wait for this. I’ve been dying for an electric mini van. The range is definitely on the lower end. I would think 90 kwh battery could get you at least 270 miles of range since it should be getting 3 mi/kwh. Maybe with the right driving style it will get that. But if it charges 63 kwh in 26 minutes on a dc charger like they say, then this is more than enough range to roadtrip. Should be awesome!
Bring knobs for HVAC and i'll consider this for my family. Also, is the roof 100% blackout or does light still come through? I dont like flickering lights overhead because I get migraines.
I like it but wish the interiors matched the exterior colors. Also better range would be good. Maybe they should find a better battery supplier who can pack more into the available space?
Anyone remotely familiar with BEVs knows that range isn’t as important as how fast it charges on a DC fast charger. 10-80% in 26 minutes is amazing. Most people will drive that thing around town and charge at home.
Without a doubt, the coolest looking MPV/Minivan. Would I pay $70k for it- NO. I bought brand new Honda Odyssey in 2017 for $32k, and I would keep running it until it dies. Prices are ridiculous on all new cars.
Great video, and cool-looking vehicle. Too bad its range is poor and it costs so much. Hearing “San Fran” made me chuckle (just an FYI, locals NEVER say that). Good review!
😂😂😂😂😂😂 My buddy from up there heard me say “San Fran” and he texted me saying “dude, we don’t say that…” hahaha. Thanks for checking out the video, Josh!
I love the looks of this cool minivan and especially in blue and white. Yes, VW bring back knobs and switches. You have to see this vehicle with the 3rd row removed to appreciate it.
This van goes against the ethos of the original in that you can’t go on adventures with such limited range and the price will really drive potential buyers away. VW missed out on a great opportunity.
"You can come in have a picnic, or you can contemplate on the life choices that you just made. What is the baby name goin' to be? You know what? I'm not hear to judge." LOL! Did I tell you my Dad owned a yellow & white VW bus? Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to make bad decisions in it.
This would make an excellent roadtrip/camping vehicle if it had say 400 miles of range minimum in the real world, unfortunately 230 isn't very useful for this. I wish they would've made a plug-in hybrid with 30-50 miles range instead.
400 miles of range on such a large EV seems pretty difficult and would make it that much more expensive. The most I’ve seen on these larger EVs is 300 or so.
@@shanet7511 I hope so! I was just talking to a Kia dealer and he echoed that the manufacturers are pulling back from EV production. @fireant202 plug-in hybrids IMHO is where the development should go, make them more powerful and efficient. This with a plug-in hybrid powertrain would be amazing
@@shanet7511 it's a bit of a trade off though. You're getting the best, and worst, of both worlds. Most people most of the time are just going to be using the electric range day in and day out but then you're lugging along all the extra weight (and maintenance cost) of an ICE. The number of times you actually need the ICE are going to really rare and it just adds complexity. An EV is much more appealing to me since, 99% of the time, I'll just be charging at home. Of course for those who can't easily charge at home the equation is completel different.
Definitely overpriced, but i'd take it over a cybertruck as this thing is much more charming and I'd love to actually mess around with these things, I love how it looks
The cheapest family sized Tesla is still quite pricey and doesn’t even have a real third row from what I’ve seen. The only real competitor available today I’m aware of is Kia EV9 or maybe a rivian?
For families who want an electrified minivan, the best option is the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV. It's "near luxury" at the high end and the top of the price point is about where the Buzz starts. It's not a Mercedes or Tesla, but it's the "nicest" thing in this segment, and it's really good at being a minivan. The Buzz is super cool, but is probably 10-15K too expensive for most families, and the range is a little lacking for real road trips.
@@valentinej2345 Definitely! I just don't like the very standard minivan look so the Buzz and EV9 appeal to me more...but that ~200 mile range is really killing my buzz :P
I think at this point people cross shopping this will be looking at another EV which is the EV 9 at this point. Not a minivan but a good 3 row vehicle with more range than this but not as cool.
$4500 for AWD? Yikes! The $61k base is already a pretty big number but $4500 for the extra motor seems like a lot. The base trim does seem to be liberally optioned so maybe that's the play.
I feel like this is a vehicle everyone will rave about and say they are going to purchase, but when the times comes they will buy something else. Curious to see how well it actually sells. I think it's ugly and weird. There's nothing like it on the market because there's no significant demand for this type of vehicle.
Naw usually when it’s someone in the driver seat, most likely it’s another journalist from a different outlet.
