Great review, as always! With such a long wheelbase and wide vehicle, what is the turning radius, and how is it maneuvering in a crowded parking lot, and tight parking spaces?
Yea it’s not all that people wished for, but it’s a good start and being both cute and sexy the design will stand strong for many iterations to come. Yes VAG officially shot themselves in the foot with the infotainment/touch button mania, but a major overhaul is announced already with next gen ID3 / new ID2 etc
$70k+ base price plus $5k to $25k dealer mark ups right now (YES dealers are tacking of insane markups!!! VW needs to stop this practice!), just barely 200 miles of range and infamous lack luster software/tech .... it's a NO for me. I love the look and the idea of it but needs to be well over 300 miles of range. It also doesn't have Tesla supercharger availability and not so great charging for roadtrips, this is mainly an around town vehicle which is super over priced. Good review as always.
Okay, I'm a smaller person and 95% of vehicles, I cant actually use the "arm rests" AS arm rests, while also being able to reach the pedals and see over the dash to drive. Those arm rests on the seat seem very strange but also... I might actually use them lol
This is so cool and unique but gets TOTALLY let down in my opinion by the seriously mediocre range around 230 miles. It's basically a pain to take on most any mid to long range road trip, and a 3 row hauler generally will probably be asked to do that on more than a few occasions. If they only had a longer range option available I feel like that would cover most people's objections. Fact is you can get into a EV9 with 304 miles of range for $60k MSRP and the Ioniq 9 will have well in excess of 300 miles of range (as a cost TBD) and people will just generally be more comfortable with that with a family 3 row hauler. I wonder if we will see a longer range version sooner than later.
A lot of companies started using drums along side regenerative braking since they typically use the front wheels for most of the braking power. I know some EVs incorporated their drums to help recharge the battery, not sure if that's the case for this particular car.
If you would have ever driven an EV or a plugin, you would love it. Due to regen you almost never use the rear brakes...and the discs will be killed by rust within 2 years, due to this less usage. Since all those MEB Cars have excellent braking distance from 100km/h to 0...I could not even care less, about the technology for the brakes.
VW, much like the Premium Brands they also own, push heavy on the leasing side of ownership. So, that price tag is not really an issue. the lease will probably go for about $450 a month, and you also will not have to worry about VW long term issues.
Great review as always. You really covered that well. but you said $66,000+ as the price…LOL….LOL……LMAO…..LOL……..LOL….LOL…..someone get me a tissue…LOL……LOL…. VW needs to drop about $20,000 just so people will consider it…

Literally the reason why most folks buy Van is for the space to fit people AND cargo. No deep trunk storage or 3rd row that folds down flat? That is a huge factor and makes the van class what it is. Not only is it more expensive, but less space and this one is RWD lol. Whaaaaaaat?
Less space? I own a VW Multivan (called sometimes T7) with ICE...I think not sold in US...with 4,96m length. The short Version of Buzz...not sold in US, too...is only 4.7m...AND has a longer distance from Back to front seats (It is even 2 cm wider anyway)!!! You get only the long Versions with same length as Multivan with ICE...way more cargo length in this case. NO, the Buzz has not less space, but much more compared to ICE Vans, since they have to waste Length for the Engine in the front...this is the big advantage of a pure EV Platform...shorter, while bigger inside the same time. First inform about the inner values...then judge!!!
0:15 Peace & Love!!!! I hope the hippie trend comes back soon and have 2 VW ID Buzz limited editions like the peace and love edition and The Fluffy edition in conjunction with Gabriel Iglesias
Ha the one we tested had the same issue with the rear windows and I think I saw it in another test video. Seems like it’s a pretty consistent problem. I do find it funny how much people in here are complaining about the price even with the video clearly laying out the competition pricing. You’re paying a $5-10k premium for one of the most unique looking cars on the road. Whether that’s worth it is up to you but to act as if similar cars aren’t within $10k in price is silly. I do acknowledge that the EV market is in a weird spot now since they’re more expensive and depreciating fast. I’ll be curious to see what happens, especially with the new administration, but on the other hand I don’t know if I can wait to buy a new family car and we want something we can plug in…it’s a rough spot with only this or the EV9 to really choose from in this price bracket and style.
Making a touring vehicle with less than 300miles of range is ridiculous. 65-70k for a glorified uber. There is no cargo space and you lack cup holders in the rear. This definitely just seems like a ride-share kind if vehicle or taxi. If VW addresses the cargo room and the mileage range then i can see this becoming a competitor for other vehicles in the segment.
Who exactly is the target market for this vehicle? Retired people with 4+dogs? It has lots of space, looks like a bus without a usable interior for large groups/families but also isn’t designed to be a in town cargo van. So it’s designed with a lot of space that isn’t very usable or comfortable?
Here’s why it will be a flop in the good ole USA: 1. It’s a minivan at a time when they are gracefully exiting the market due to slow sales; 2. It’s expensive at a time when the $70k+ price point is under immense pressure; 3.It’s an EV at a time when the USA is not ready at home or on the road; 4. It has a real world range well under 300 at a time when that is considered bare minimum; and 5. It’s a retro at a time when those have fallen from style preferences. Notice I haven’t bashed any sacred cow. It’s just a product which has come a decade too late with too little.
Indeed a US thing...in Europe we make breaks in restaurant and do not hurry through live. When I made vacation in US, the only persons enjoying a coffee and sitting down...were Europeans. I hate this buy and run away with the coffee like hell...unfortunately the BS comes more and more to europe, too.
I don’t understand why VW gives these EVs the tiny 5" display when they have 8 and 10.25 inch units. For the price tag they should definitely have something nicer
This is a pure EV Platform..and no, they did not miss a Hybrid, but they have a Multivan AWD drive version with 25kwh Battery...but only in Europe I think. Due to the pure EV Platform the cargo length is same for the short Version of the Buzz with 4.7m, compared to 4.96m for the Multivan!! This is only possible, if you do not mix technology.
I wish if vw makes these vans in gas powered engine for families like myself to make long road trips.... 8 would buy it with the gas powered under or around 50000 price tag.
23:15 “You also get power sliding doors on both the driver and passenger side. So that’s really nice.” Can anyone name me a van that only has a power sliding door on one side? 🤦🏻♂️
Even if it doubled the range it would still be cheap looking. A strap instead of grab handles? That's the type of car building they did back in the 1980s
What is the use of a 65k family van with just 240 miles range? The real world range wuth family would be 160 and you end up stopping every 2 hours. Not worthy
At least VW doesn’t make buyers have any interior color option they want as long as it’s black. Chevy is guilty of that one big time in their EV’s. Nothing but black interiors is such a downer.

Please Toyota, release an EV Previa to do battle with this!
Reminds me of the pontiac Aztek.
I want to love this Van but ultimately the Odyssey wins on interior tbh. And I have had 3 GTIs in a row
This lowered on some rotiform disc would be 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵 in silver on black
Making a touring vehicle with less than 300miles of range is ridiculous. 65-70k for a glorified uber. There is no cargo space and you lack cup holders in the rear. This definitely just seems like a ride-share kind if vehicle or taxi. If
VW addresses the cargo room and the mileage range then i can see this becoming a competitor for other vehicles in the segment.
For its price, you'd think VW would give it nicer materials, way more range and actual real cupholders in the back seats. This isn't the 80's VW.
I'm rooting for this one, but I doubt I'm their market. As battery tech improves, and we return to buttons, I may be more apt to open my wallet...
For the price of this, I would expect it to get at least 100 more miles of range...
Just 6 charges to get out of Texas 😂
Who exactly is the target market for this vehicle? Retired people with 4+dogs?
It has lots of space, looks like a bus without a usable interior for large groups/families but also isn’t designed to be a in town cargo van. So it’s designed with a lot of space that isn’t very usable or comfortable?
I still can’t get over it that THIS is VW’s HALO vehicle….
buzz buzz, the VW, front dash, with the warning lights, mmmmmmm vw quality... $75K no thank you
it should make a good 1-2 year old used purchase for 40% off MSRP :)
*70K for an electric plastic tub van. with short range and cheap brakes*
They missed the mark on price, range, and not having a hybrid version.
I like it a lot, but not for 66k.
VW should offer an optional 400 miles range or so for long trips, which is that this is supposed to be for
The lack of cup holders alone have doomed this in the us market.
The original micro bus was ………affordable. $2500 in 1970 which is about $21k today.
Soon enough there would be a pro S+ ultra
Why is this not a Hybrid ? With 200 miles of range? WTF? They ruined the actual purpose of this.
I don’t understand why VW gives these EVs the tiny 5" display when they have 8 and 10.25 inch units. For the price tag they should definitely have something nicer
This would have been cool with a phev with a 2.0 turbo from the gti
This is a pure EV Platform..and no, they did not miss a Hybrid, but they have a Multivan AWD drive version with 25kwh Battery...but only in Europe I think.
Due to the pure EV Platform the cargo length is same for the short Version of the Buzz with 4.7m, compared to 4.96m for the Multivan!! This is only possible, if you do not mix technology.
I wish if vw makes these vans in gas powered engine for families like myself to make long road trips.... 8 would buy it with the gas powered under or around 50000 price tag.
My only gripe with this car is you can not get 7 seats and AWD.
Glad to see that the giant emblems don't "light up". Enough with the giddiness over gimmicks.
23:15 “You also get power sliding doors on both the driver and passenger side. So that’s really nice.”
Can anyone name me a van that only has a power sliding door on one side? 🤦🏻♂️
That would have been a hot seller if it was a hybrid or diesel I think VW missed a good sale
If Volkswagen paid me (let's say a realistic number) a thousand dollars a week to drive this...I would not. [Awful]
