  • Steve shows you a fluid and filter change on a 4R70W Ford transmission. He uses a fluid evacuator from Mityvac to drain the pan before removal, avoiding a mess on the floor.

    👏 🏆 🔧 This is the best tutorial for the Panther platform trans oil and filter change. The narration and explanation are excellent, the camera work was great (tripod!), and there was no annoying and distracting metal/techno/rap "music" blasting in the background. This is a professional-looking production that walks the novice through the process. Thank you for the superb work, Mr. Tool Demos!

    I've watched several videos on how to change the Trans fluid in my 03 Lincoln town car and I feel this is the best video. I have one of these fluid extracting contraptions and I didn't even thing to use the fluid extractor first to make the job a lot less messy. Thank you for making this video. I'm going to do this job asap. 4/22/22 .Thanks. Craig Moir

    You forgot to place a small amount of transmission fluid on the new filter gasket before you installed it. This helps to prevent the gasket from sticking inside the transmission as what happened to the last one.

    NEVER use a metal tool to remove a stuck filter gasket !! WOOD or PLASTIC -- ONLY !!
    The early 4R70W has a flat-bottomed Trans Pan. Install a Drain Plug on the rearward wall of the Trans Pan.
    The newer 4R70W has a bump in the bottom of the trans pan. Rock Auto has a pan with a Drain Plug where the bump is.
    I use and recommend CASTROL "TransMax" Full Synthetic Mercon V trans fluid for the 4R70W.

      @@ToolDemos yup no problem its important to know because they had problems with the old 4r70ws and theres not enough info out there on it i bought a 2003 by mistake because wikipedia has lies about them changing in 2002. and apprently in 2005 they changed to a 4r70e instead of the 4r70w then the next year went to 4r75 so idk what fluid the 4r70e would take

    At 12:34 what’s the box in front of the transmission pan with the circle ring looking thing?

    • @ToolDemos
      @ToolDemos  2 года назад

      That’s the transmission bell housing, the circle at the bottom is a rubber plug that covers the access hole. Ford used to put a drain plug in the torque converter so you could drain more fluid, but that went away 20 years ago. They stopped putting the hole in the bell housing several years after that.

      @@Gostintheshadows When it gets really bad you’ll see a leak hitting the ground under the car. But until then you’ll have to have a look through the access hole.
