Great explanation, super easy to understand, and motivates me to attempt the new projects I’ve been putting off!! Thank you, Amy!! (I’m baffled by the 2 ‘thumbs downs’. This was exactly the kind of tutorial I’ve been searching for for the past 2 days. Short, sweet, to the point-just perfect.)
Hi, this is exactly what I was looking for. I'm redoing a coffee table for a friend (eye roll) and she cannot decide on color. I've used BOSS as a primer, it really took the stink out of the table. I did the top in a brown paint (she didn't like) so now I'm thinking to use Espresso Gel Stain on the top and Gator Hide - family of four including two teens and two dogs. Sometimes it gets difficult to work with friend/relative. Thanks for the video, easy peasy explanation, so helpful.
Hey Margo! No, The No Pain Gel Stain may have a slightly different look depending on the type of wood, due to stain absorption at different rates etc. I hope this helps!
Hi Amy thanks for sharing this lovely technique. Is this product for any other surfaces than wood? If you do kitchen cabinets with a factory coating, do you have to use a top coat?
Hi there! The stain wouldn't be able to seep into anything. You may be able to sand it and use No Pain Gel Stain. However, we recommend trying our Voodoo Gel Stain :) We hope this helps and happy painting!
I just watched your tutorial on Dixie Belle jell stain. I'm doing a buffet for my daughter in law and the buffet is oak. She wants it stained in black and have some of the grain showing. She doesn't want it full coverage. Is this the stain that I want to use? Should I do a wash with caviar instead? I appreciate your advice.
Hi ! SO we suggest waiting at least two weeks cure time when using a gel stain and wanting to gloss over top. When you think the piece is cured, try first in a more hidden area to test first before painting Gloss over the entire piece. Hope this helps ! 😍
Good Morning. Can you help? I have golden oak vanity cabinets that are 24 years old. I have sanded them with 100 grit sandpaper to remove the shine. I have applied gel stain very lightly to one of the pieces (on the back) yesterday and put it into the garage where it is about 90 degrees with very low humidity. 12 hours later I can wipe off some of the gel stain. Shouldn't this be dry enough by now and ready for a second coat? I followed the exact application procedure that you used in this video.
Hi, you can use Dixie Mud to fill holes on a factor finish with indents. It is best to spot seal the Dixie Mud with Clear Coat before applying the No Pain Gel Stain.
Thank you for the amazing video Amy ! Is it a must to light sand before or no ? Thinking of redoing my kitchen cabinets however I think I would be easier to just clean and then stain ! So my question is does the light sanding make a difference or no ? Also for a kitchen is a top coat needed ? Which is best to ensure no lines ? I have a Dixie Belle sponge and just to ensure I am using the right top coat ! Thanks as always ! 💞
Hi Jannine! Sanding is not required, however make sure to clean properly before applying the stain! We recommend to seal with Gator Hide as this is our most durable top coat is perfect for high traffic areas! We hope this helps and happy painting!
Dixie Belle Paint Company I put on two stains of the colonial black over top of chocolate brown kitchen cabinets, then added a third tonight ! To be clear it won’t do complete coverage right ? Can always see the back colour however only slightly correct ? Wondering if I would need 4 coats possibly ! Love DB products ! 💞
Hey Shelley! Yes, you can use No Pain Gel Stain on stair trends. If you would like the wood grain to show through you would need to sand any topcoats/sealing prior to application. We hope this helps and happy painting.
Hi there! Yes, you can use Gel Stain on laminate wood shelves! The color however, will sit on top instead of seep in! There are a few videos on our page that show how to obtain the faux stain look :) Hope this helps and happy painting!
Dixie Belle Paint Company Does the paint sit on top of the laminate? Have a dining room table with laminate top that I want to change color. Do I need to sand the laminate? Thank you!
I have a video on this page from 2 weeks ago using the Weathered Gray on a top and then added dry brushing over the other gel stain colors for a driftwood look. You determine the coverage based on how many coats you put on it. If you do 3 thin coats (letting it dry between coats) you can get a full coverage (you build up cover with additional thin coats). Hope this helps. Thanks for watching... Aj from Ajs Vintage Designs
Hi, thankfully our products are made to be as easy as possible! You can always sand if you would like, depending on the state of your piece it is optional! We hope you love it!😊
You do a great job of explaining, that's so helpful. Not everyone can do it that well. Thank you! I'm encouraged to try.
We are so excited you loved the video! Thank you so much!

Thank you for watching! Please make sure to apply thin coats and wipe back the excess after application.
Great video, what is the drying time between coats?
Thank you for watching Lonnie. Please allow at least 15 minutes to dry between each coat you apply.
Could this be used over stair bannisters to darken them.? Would it wear off with peoples hands rubbing up and down over them?
Hi there! You can use No Pain Gel Stain to stain your stair bannisters! It will not transfer once it is completely dried. Happy painting!
Is there any products to use before gel stain if there are indentations on factory finish?
Hi, you can use Dixie Mud to fill holes on a factor finish with indents. It is best to spot seal the Dixie Mud with Clear Coat before applying the No Pain Gel Stain.

After gel stain is dry can I put a furniture transfer on it and then gator hide?
Hey there! We recommend waiting 21-30 days after applying the oil-based gel stain. I hope this helps!
If my table is white can I put the expresso on it
Hi there! Yes, you can use No Pain Gel Stain in Espresso on your white table. We hope this helps and happy painting!
Can you use Dixie Bell No Pain Gel Stain on stair treads?

Do you have to seal the no pain gel stain?

In high humidity areas like Florida, would i need to keep these items inside for duration of dry times? 3 days seems like a long time for each coat
