Wow now that's a landing deck that opened my eyes to a cool looking diorama for the falcon I'm still working on , real good job !!! Good pointers btw anyone wanting to build this should see this video first
Another masterpiece, Lou. You inspired me to start on my Falcon after it had been sitting in a corner for the past year and a half. Also, congrats on being one of the few RUclipsrs to actually finish this kit.
As usual it turned out awesome Lou!!! Now that you've finished I got some great tips and ideas to use when I finally open my big box. I too had pictured making a wooden base with LEDs around the perimeter. I was thinking basic black though with maybe a white stripe around the outer edge. I thought the decals would take a long time to complete after looking at the sheet. Wow, good job on those too Lou! Thanks for some great reference and tips on this kit!!
Simply superb! Excellent work on the kit with a well chosen change in lighting, exquisite painting and detailing. The base complements it very nicely with the lighting included to sell the illusion. Brava!!
Considering how that base sprang forth so quickly, the results are very pleasing. I would extend that switch to the outside... I was at SD Con about 5-6 years ago and went off somewhere away from the noise to make a phone call. Much to my surprise there was Mr. Mayhew with whoever seemed to be in his life (I know nothing else of the fellow)! He was clearly beat and so I did not approach. Just the two of them in an afterthought of near-bathroom, near-equipment entryway sort of large-ish place. As I made my phone call, Mr. Mayhew sat in a chair and took a rest. More surprising than any other aspect of Mr. M.'s passing was the relatively emotive reaction from Mr. Ford. Which I found sweet and unexpected. Your Falcon is definitely a good and thoughtfully complete piece of work-- that ship sure puts the 'mania' in decalcomania.
@@aztekdummy Har! No; considering you've been laboring over the Falcon for 4-5 weeks, you essentially shook the base design out of your sleeve. And the results please.
That looks awsome man !! I'm getting ready to build one soon after I invest in a air brush paint an some photo etch panels was wondering if that kit or more like it have mechanical landing gear
I'm about to start working on mine. I wish I had a list of Tamiya acrylic paints to order now to make this process easier. Do you have any suggestions after revisiting this from a year ago?
If i could recommend a color for the base of the Falcon, I would say Vallejo "Off White" from their Mecha line of paints. It's acrylic and is just the right warm white. other than that, take the decal sheet and use that to get the matching colors for the plating accents
@@aztekdummy Sorry Lou under the circular vents/grates on the top rear round circles. there are slots cut in the top, then you installed the PE mesh over them, but the slots were still visible. You mentioned filling them, so I assumed there was a reason not to. my bad thanks Dane
Those slots are for attaching the solid styrene grate parts. If you use the photo etch, (which you can see thru ) they didn't give you anything to cover those slots with. I suppose you were supposed to paint that area a dark color and camouflage the slots, but that would hide the other details in there. It's not the best solution, but I opted not to cover those slots. I imagine a really big flat screwdriver that Han used when he wanted to replace those turbine blades
Build what you like. If you're into Sci-fi, there hasn't been a better time in years to jump in. If you like cars, build a car. if you like tanks, build a tank. On a practical level, if you like Sci-fi, I would start with any of the BanDai Star Wars kits. You can get them practically anywhere, they have a wide variety of subjects - hardware and figures , most times they don't need paint or glue, and you can get some very nice results in a very short time. You should start with a sharp hobby knife, a good set of sprue cutters, some painters tape and some sanding sticks. As you go along you can slowly fill in your toolbox. don't feel the need to jump in with a fancy compressor and airbrush right away. Start with a project that requires minimal paint and build your palette over time. Acrylics are easier to work with because they clean up with water and don't have the fumes of enamels. You can start with traditional glues and then switch over to super glues and epoxies as your skills improve. know that you are going to make mistakes but refuse to beat yourself up about it that's about the best advise I can offer

You sayin' I skimped on the stand? What a "baseless" accusation 😁

May the 4th be with you! Sad about Peter Mayhew, Chewie RIP. The model looks awesome!
Looking amazing! Nice touch with The thrusters 😍
Great work Lou!
Peter’s moving along was saddening.
Nice job on the kit. I’m sitting on mine for a bit.
Holy crud-balls! Them be a lot of wee decals. Bandai are true to their word, I guess.
What a hunk a junk!! Nice!
Really great job on this Lou! I know I just wouldn't have the patience to build this kit even though I really like it.
Great video, thanks Lou!

Only an afterthought...did you decide not to fill the gaps on the turbine tops (the slots) or did I miss something? wonderful job overall
Not sure what you meant here. It's been a while since I built this

Hi, Lou! What's a good beginner model for a total first timer? You got me hooked on this, bud! Fantastic work as always!

Fantastic!! Love the base too! Or was it a Rebel base? 🤔
Awesome! Did you end up using magnets for the back panel?
No, turned out not to be necessary
