There's a small leafy park in North Riverdale, the Bronx (my nabe) with a path next to the Henry Hudson Parkway, and a little above it. I find it relaxing to look down on the speeding cars and listen to the whoosh of them. I get this!
This park will always be special to me. My best friend and I took a trip to his hometown in Fort Wayne. He took me all over the state to visit friends and family. He took me to this park where we sat and daydreamed and laughed after smoking a joint. He turned to me and told me he was in love with me. I felt the same and we kissed after having denied ourselves any attempt at expressing these feelings for two years. It all came rushing out right there. Things got complicated, we ALMOST got married on a whim on a surprise weekend trip to Atlanta. Now, he's getting married to someone else and I stumble across this video. Life is weird and the universe is laughing. 😎
Its people like this that make a small but yet big difference in our world. This Idle is many things like white noise, relaxing, a place to meet new and interesting people from all walks of life, nature snd so on. I love this, great idea.
Here in southern Arizona on St. Rte. 90 that intersects I-10 there is a McDonalds at the intersection on a hill and across the street is a truckstop. It's a really neat place to watch America happen. And beyond the truckstop is a valley that immediately dips in elevation and across the valley is Cochise Stronghold where Apache used to live. That McDonalds is a great place to watch America happen. Tourists, locals, deliveries, commerce and friends.
Was skeptical at first, but seeing the finished path and seating area brought tears to my eyes. Our world needs many more Tom Battistas, fewer cynics and scolds.
Tom is cool af. My God father played drums for buffet and Tom was always super accommodating whenever we would go see him play. Not shocked he wanted to do this for the people of Indy
Recently stayed a few days in Indie and didn't even know this park existed until I parked on the street directly in front of it. I was surprised that there was a park in the middle of the freeway and had to check it out. While walking through the small path of trees out of nowhere was a view of the entire interstate and skyline. Took me by surprise and awe . Im glad I stopped, this place is cool. It made for a really good smoke spot at midnight lmao will never forget it
I admire anybody who is able to cut through government bureaucracies to make a dream come true. I’ve never been able to do that, though I’ve tried several times.
Love reading the hate on these. Try to figure out why people are so mad, it's irrational but they are there anyway. On this page Fantomas wins. What must that life be like?
There's an interstate exit just north of there to get to Virginia Ave. You just take a couple of local roads to get to Virginia Ave after you get off of the Interstate. The Idle is also located along the Cultural Trail (there are several shots of it in this clip), an 8 mile bike + ped path that goes to downtown and near-downtown neighborhoods in Indianapolis. Throughout the trail are bike share stations. E-scooters are available as well. It is less than 1.5 miles from the heart of downtown Indianapolis. The road the Idle is along, Virginia Ave, has on-street parking.
Sitting on plastic chairs exposed to the sun ("which is a little brutal") watching countless cars drive by. Much more comfortable sitting in your car at a highway viewpoint where you don't stare into oncoming traffic. How come they seem to have stopped building highway viewpoints?
highway viewpoints were more of an interstate thing, once the 7 lane highways became a thing that died. we no longer have like highway 80 as a main route. if you go on the 80 or the 101 they allhave viewpoints
@Cleroyster, He is not on drugs, just your typical, brainwashed, lunatic, liberal. Typical liberal solution, instead of trying to help solve the traffic problem, this lazy Democrap loser, just builds on the PROBLEM. Indiana, is just another 3rd world s-ithole.
@Joan Robie, you love him, because you are a dumbed down, brainwashed, liberal Demoncrap, still picking cotton, for your Master Pelosi, on her Democrap plantation, just learn to #WalkAwayFromDemocrapParty.
oogrooq don’t have to worry about the homeless as much up north. Too cold and people are too broke. Also they aren’t going to go to a park when they need people to panhandle.
If that is so, then so are you! What would you prefer? A police chase? A house fire? A gang shooting? It’s a nice story about an ingenious guy working to improve his city and neighborhood!

Creative and empathy guy. Very nice to have this story. Thanks cbs

I've been to Indianapolis multiple times but I never heard of this before. It's so interesting

The little animals and birds passing by can find some peace too. 💖

I love and have always loved , folks who tend to think outside the box and who usually root for the underdog.
Bravo Mr Battista
I like that he used private donations and labor.
@@TXMEDRGR Yes that is good , but to me no matter where the funds come from , it is simply a GOOD idea.
Thanks , Mike PS , I subbed you

Been to Indianapolis a few times and had no idea. I love it
Wow. I live in Indy and had no idea.
Yea, me too
You have to check it out!
Now we just need more of these! 🌳🚗
Tom is cool af. My God father played drums for buffet and Tom was always super accommodating whenever we would go see him play. Not shocked he wanted to do this for the people of Indy
Can’t ever have too many parks
I used to live next to I-95 and I can see this working. Nice thinking out of the box.

That's a great idea.
It's a great idea. A unique park. Something different. We need one here in Orlando. Only downside is the homeless might move in.
In days gone by, people in Britain would hold picnics on the side of a motorway.
this is so cool, God bless him...
Yep!!
Love it, How cool!
Wow I live in California now and so beautiful so serene but I can't wait to get back to and check out the park Park

Pepper Jack Very sad I imagine. Why all this negativity? It’s a really fun spot I walk by every day.
What an AWESOME idea.
Just here in the comments, reading about people fuming mad because some dude made a positive impact in his community.
Indy Cyclist Thank you. It’s absolutely sickening to read these ignorant hateful comments!
Very cool!!!
Sounds like a good place to catch a little car pollution.
You sure can tell that this isn’t Seattle. If this happened here it would be taken over in a day by a drug infested tent encampment.
In Portland, there would already be a homeless camp he would have to move.
I was thinking the same thing, then saw your comment. Spot on, sadly.
Well, words out now...🤔
Have signs available that people sitting on the seats can flash to the drivers stuck in traffic. Example: "park your car and come and join me". 😄.
Gotta love a great view of the monstrous thing that cut the heart out of our neighborhood.
Neat idea to unite communities!
I'm still confused as to HOW you get TO it?

You sold me at Cheeseburger in Paradise...
Omg I’ve seen that when I was going to Nashville
I wouldn't want to inhale all of that automobile exhaust.
John Simms That’s it. Ever more negativity.
What we need is some human sponges to absorb the noise and poison. The trees do appreciate it.
I went it was fun af. Good place to have a few libations heh
God is Awesome
I live in Columbus, Indiana, and travel I-70 frequently. I've never noticed this oasis. Exactly, where it is it ?
Sir, Indianapolis has a LOT more than traffic, and so does Indiana. I know because I have lived in Indianapolis since 1970 and grew up in Indiana.
Lots of better places. Indiana does not have to be a death sentence.
How safe is it to get there and who PAYS for the upkeep?
No "upkeep" is the idea.
ritaperdue It’s right off an opening on The Cultural Trail. You walk right in.
A Great idea!😁
"millions of radio listeners"...ok guy lol

NICE PARK YOU HAVE IT'S A BIT LOUD THOUGH. YOU HEAR ME? I SAID IT'S A BIT LOUD. A BIT LOUD. IT'S LOUD. HEY?
"This is what we have..let's use what we have!!!" A do it yourselfers prayer!!! Thank you sir!!
@Larry Southern, A prayer to your Master Satan, you sick, twisted, atheist punk.
Ohhhhhkaaaay!!!!???.. Cya!!! Have a nice day!!
The obvious questions NOT addressed, how does one gain access and where do you park. Any night lights and what about grilling?
Thanks
Chris K
You walk right in through an entrance on The Cultural Trail. Very safe Fountain Square neighborhood!
Well, it’s not quite a ‘Cheeseburger In Paradise’, but creative, nonetheless. 🍔🏖🌞
That would be a lot of car fumes to breath in.
And possible a car could somehow will end up running over people
xStePzx It’s way up on a hill above the Interstate.
TXMEDRGR No more than on any other downtown street.
Really cool idea. More places could use a little park like that. I hope they provided a place to pee. It'll be a real mess if they forgot.
Great place for handys!
Crazy ideas are just new ideas
I like the idea but those seats wouldn't have been my final choice.
What would you have put in instead?
Wonder if Dr Aaron Carroll of Healthcare Triage RUclips channel knows about this?
Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed by the small sunshade that does not cover anything.
Herron?
Herron Art School in Indianapolis. It was located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It is gone now, replaced by a high school.
@@adammbowman it's not REALLY gone it's on part iupui campus
My fam helped build Holy rosary
Justin I went to Latin School during the time the Interstate destroyed the neighborhood.
Some really obese people are going to be mad that he did not make the seats bigger .
italian/irish relationships/marriages wouldn't be effected by a freeway's separating them
Dan Kirchner
The interstate ripped the heart out of both neighborhoods. The Cultural Trail is a great idea to restore that linkage.
@@wmw3629 no doubt ,cultural trail locks it up -bravo!
You see these things all over California, they're called homeless camps. Personally, this is the last place I would go to 'relax'.
Reality check. Indiana is not CA
More mindless negativity
Good to see that Sunday Morning can still do great stories and not just hit pieces on our President. Two timing Charles would have approved.
My newlywed parent's lived in a house that was bought and demolished by the government to make the stretch of highway view-able from this park.
This guys harmless but a bit nuts...
Sitting out in open like that, I'd feel like a sitting duck.....no way, not with so many crazy people out there....
Yang2020!!Google Andrew Yang!!
No offense but this has become an old person show. I’m 58.
A park surrounded by carbon monoxide
Drew Hendley Not as bad as what we’re surrounded by every breath we take.
Mostly nitrogen, carbon dioxide and soot. The air quality tends to be a lot better up north than here in the south...
Jimmy Buffet? Am I the only who doesnt know who that is.
abel carreon country artist
I want some of the drugs...that this guy is taking....

Cleroyster 2 Like being naturally high on life?
Go feed the homeless. Leave the interstate thing alone. Smh
I just don't get it.
And the homeless people don't take it over?
oogrooq don’t have to worry about the homeless as much up north. Too cold and people are too broke. Also they aren’t going to go to a park when they need people to panhandle.
They camp near the river in Indy.
It should be a homeless camp and I would be nothing wrong with him doing that. Oh yes let the rich smell that exhaust...
CBS news is so slow and boring....
And that's exactly why we like it....
If that is so, then so are you! What would you prefer? A police chase? A house fire? A gang shooting? It’s a nice story about an ingenious guy working to improve his city and neighborhood!
