Any chance of a tablature for "What"d I Say" (Ray Charles) - it would be great if you had a tablatures section in your store - I'm assuming you would have someone else prepare the tabs for review by you before they are released - love the fact that you are so prolific in producing your videos - such a great channel for jamming.
I think i‘m following you for a few years now-thx for everything so far-because of that lesson i -now- hit that stupid bell button 😄 maybe, Sometimes if you’re interested in trying out to handle a little intermediate course for the technics/patterns of your „Jolene“ 😉🤘🏾🎸cheers
Sometimes an arrangement like this is overwhelming when there's multiple parts being played at the same time. The key is to take it one part at a time, and once you get those down, slowly work on incorporating them together. You'll get it!
Justin is one of the greats. Not only creating music, not only creating instruments, not only driving an art form forward, but giving away knowledge hard-earned over years of practice on technique and musicianship.
Been on that string/beat/pluck for 3 days now,my nails are worn out and it’s only beginning to sink in… A lot of work to make it sound like you do,but I am so impressed with your simple, accurate and so informative method of teaching that great tune. It will take whatever time it will take, but I am determined to do your lesson good justice,,,will let you know. Thanks ,,you are a true inspiration.
I'm so used to playing with a pick I'm hardly keeping up. Justin is just an amazing guitar player. I'm going to practice this like everyday until my brain and fingers are one.
Sweet, Johnny Cash would have loved this fine version of his Folsom Prison tune and that you were teaching folk's how to play it. GR8 lesson. Thanks J.J.. May Johnny Rest in Peace. 09.12.03. ✌❤🎸🎶👍🙏 🇨🇦😎🐈
It all sounds so simple and smooth when you just hear you playing it, but when you break it down and you see what really goes into the song, it's amazing the coordination required. As an uncoordinated lop, I can only admire...
I know I’m a bit late to the party here, but I’ve just gotta say this is probably the best advanced finger style lesson I’ve ever seen. Your explanation of how merging percussion and melody is doing plucks on upstrokes and rakes on downstrokes just opened up a whole new world for me, I’ve been trying to figure that technique out for a long while now. Seriously good job here brother, this is a masterpiece of a lesson
Justin - I've been a bass player for over 30 years, bit I've been wanting to get deeper into blues for a while. I really enjoy your tunes, but I just got a resonator and am learning the 6 string. Thank you so much for this video ! I'm learning !!!
Thanks for this! I just lost My Dad to Covid last year! He was 73 This was one of his favorite songs to pick .... Since I was a kid growing up in the 70's ... He Sang as well! I always loved the sound of this RIFF!!! He had a 70's Fender Acoustic not such which ... and He bought his first electric guitar A fender when he was 16 ( BAD ASS ) He had a whammy bar! One of the last things We talked about was He had pawned his Fender because it needed a lot of work for a new Acoustic and he said I could kick myself in the ass for pawning that guitar!!! I was like NO You didn't Dad! He was so upset he did that! Anyway I appreciate guitar so much from my Dad playing for so many years up til I lost him! He left all his guitars to my son that plays! Anyway I ran across this wanting my son to learn Folsom Prison Blues......... Thanks ....... RIP DAD MISS YOU ❤❤❤❤
Justin, not only are you a fantastic player, but you're also an amazing teacher! Thank you dearly for preparing this great material for the rest of us... please keep them coming!
This arrangement like all your others is absolute gold. I've been learning this for 2 months and what a challenge it is. Thanks and I look forward to more!
Absolutely amazing. I told my wife the first time I ever heard you play.... I said this ol boy is gonna go huge. Keep climbing that ladder bro. You most definitely will always have a fan in me.
This is by far the best guitar tutorial video I've seen. When I listened to the original I never imagined I could play this, but the way Justin has broken down this song, I was able to learn it within 4 days (not as well I might add). Thank you Justin, I would love you to do the same style tutorial for Tennessee Whiskey. Much love Brother!
Amazing how you show both how complex this song is, and how it may actually be possible to play it for an... OK-ish at best guitarist like meself. Stunning lesson. How you explain all the details is great. Like others say, this might take me a year to learn, but I may maybe actually get there. Also, I looked up the guitar, and for a Martin it's a budget one, and that shows how talent beats gear.
I have not been playing long at all and this is so complicated. But the way you break it down step bye step, suggesting learn this part by itself then add as you can. I watch you play all the time and think WOW! I could never do that. When I saw this was going to be a lesson I was tempted to move on, I got what I came for and that was to hear you play. But I stuck around out of curiosity to see how can you explain that. But I honestly believe I CAN DO THIS!! It’s going to take a long time but it will be time we’ll spent and I imagine it will help in every aspect of my desire to learn to play. You aww me all the time but I never imagined you would inspire me as you have today. Thank you does not even come close to expressing my gratitude but I don’t know what else to say.
Sooo clean and warm! 6 months ago, during quarantine I stumbled upon Justin’s channel and was amazed and awestruck by your playing! I’ve always wanted to learn the blues, so I bought a fender guitar and started learning to play everyday since! Who doesn’t love Johnny Cash, The Man in Black!!!
The mark of a true professional is to make something extremely difficult look simple/easy. You make this look easy, but it is very clear from your breakdown that it is actually a very technical and complicated piece. It is really impressive!
All I can say is wow! By FAR, this is the best guitar lesson I have every seen. You break it all down into easy to understand parts. Bravo. I Been playing for almost 50 years and Im not worth the 1st damn at finger picking . If back in the day when I still cared, if I had a teacher like this guy..... I can only imagine.
This is an amazing tutorial. Breaking it down into its base parts and showing how you integrate all of the different techniques to make it all work. Even fooling me into thinking I could learn it. Seriously though - its a very well put together video. I hope that people out there wanting to learn finger picking see this video. There is so much to learn from it.
Might take me a year, but this is worth the time. So much to learn if you just stick with it. You've explained it so thoroughly anyone that wants to, could learn this. Thanks for taking the time, it really means a lot Justin. At 70 I have three new guitar hero's....You, Marcus King and Billy Strings....I put my guitar on my bed and every night I have to pick it up to get in bed and sleep, so I spend 10 or 15 minutes minimum, sometimes an hour playing.....it really helps. Thanks again Justin!
Thank you Mr Johnson! You made it a family affair my son 10 my daughter 12 and myself 41 have been working on this video. Thank you again from my whole family!!!
I soooo NEED this guitar 🎸 in my life. I started learning guitar 🎸 6 months ago just so I could play the blues after watching your videos during quarantine.
Impressive. Exactly what I was looking for. I saw old guy from the country play this finger style the way you are one time and I was blown away. You’re the only other person I’ve seen do it.
Your version of FPB is one of my favorites and I slowed down your video to work out some of your rhythms and riffs but this video makes it a lot easier. Thanks so much for the free lessons. One day I will break down and buy your lessons. This is by far the best blues tutorial on the web.

Thanks so much Justin. Your smooth nature and mad skills abound! Been watching you for years.
I really appreciate the showing of your technique. I'd been trying to emulate your style on this piece with limited success and had moved on to another song when this tutorial popped up. It's easy to get stuck "in a style" and I am thankful for this.
I've been studying this video for at least one month now. I was an absolute beginner at fingerpicking, but now I got the first part (until 8:50) right (but still sloppy). Awesome video.
Dude seriously, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH for adding the tab at the bottom, been so inspired to pick up this playing style but was hard to catch onto not knowing what you was doing exactly. Thanks man!
Really love your videos and especially the Folsom Prison Blues. Also this tutorial is excellent and really good explained and allowing one to follow and understand what is exactly going on. Even that I'm at age 56 is still not really a very talented or experienced guitar player then for sure this one is something that I'm going to spend the autumn (AND winter 🙂) to figure out if I can learn to play at least some of it. Let you know in April/May 2023 how it went 😀
Howdy! I am just recovering from a nasty accident and just got my left arm out of a cast. It has been 10 weeks, I broke it in two places and smashed my wrist as well. I found this and man, are my fingers misbehaving, but I am really enjoying working my way through it. I think it beats physical therapy. I have watched a lot of your videos, but this is the first lesson, and you are an amazing teacher. You have a great laid back way about you and you really break things down nicely. I also feel that I have gotten to know you better than just watching your music vids. Anyway, I am really enjoying this. Thanks for taking the time to put it together!
BTW, I am still working on this, starting to move it up the neck, and there is a subtle but really audible difference between the open chord version and the other version, your playing a G# on the open chord version, and a G on the up the neck version, that gives the open string pull a decidedly minor sound. You do such a good job with the percussion parts that it took me a while to hear it when you do it, but once you have heard it, you can not unhear it. Now I am trying figure out exactly how you managed to tame it so well. Perhaps you pluck the open B and E string harder, or mute the G a bit. The minor sound is there when you play it, but it is much less glairing than when I try it.
Wow! Thank you so much for the incredible lesson. Not only is there an enormous amount to consume here, but you do an amazing job of teaching. This is one of the best instructional guitar videos on RUclips. You are a treasure, Justin!
Wow! How do I get access to your instructional materials and techniques to strengthen hands and fingers to bend notes like this? You’ve put together something very special here. Clear and precise! THANK YOU!
Mr Johnson it was an amazing arrangment fully understood and learned fast. While listening to this I just can't get a smile of my face...I know the song is about sad sings, but the way Mr. Johnson plays it and gives a lesson, making it look like it was the easiest thing to play is just incredible. You just have to love this man/men (JJ and JC)! Thank you for posting this!!!
Thank you for generously posting this free lesson, Mister Johnson. It made me buy your transcription for the song. Your arrangement is brilliantly constructed, performed and taught. It's refreshing to come across a musical genius who is so humble and laid-back. I've read that Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Garcia and Stevie Ray Vaughan were like that, too. If I were rich, I'd commission you to upload an arrangement and lesson "L.A. Woman." Anyway, I hope your talent and dedication are bringing wonderful things into your life.
Hi Justin. This is incredible. Your instructions on how to take on new techniques are spot on. Do you have any other instructional videos like this? Mind you, this will take a while to get my head and fingers around
Love this, thank you so much for the detailed glimpse into your artistry. Teaching is not easy! Nicely done. The tabs are super helpful. Looking forward to more instructional content.
Thanks so much! Here's a catalog of tabs for about 50 of my arrangements, and adding to this library regularly: www.musicnotes.com/sheet-music/artist/justin-johnson
Your video of you playing this came up on my feed so I followed. Very happy I did now!! Breaking it down is really making it a lot easier to digest. Hoping one day I’ll be able to feel relaxed enough to play the whole thing. Great stuff. You’re an excellent teacher even via RUclips. 🤟
Thanks for sharing the licks Justin. I wasn't sure about the bass part,.............................. until you speeded up. Then it it fit perfect. That was cool. Great learning stuff that will apply to lots of songs. Thank you.
Wow, thank you so much for putting this lesson on RUclips as I’ve been wishing to learn it since I saw you playing. This will keep me busy for months to work on it. Thank you again 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching & Please Hit SUBSCRIBE! 😁
I would love a lesson like that about the "blackwood lullaby" from the other day.
Blackwood lullaby please!

Thanks for your teaching. Explained Chet Atkins took kit and what finger picking could do covering Johnny Cash.
I was relieved when you started explaining it all out - I guess I’m too much a noob, the tabs looked like a physics formula.
A Chinese physics formula
LOL! Yep!

@Justin Johnson you are absolutely amazeballs.

Genius! Period.
Much appreciated. Not only do you mesmerize us with your magic, you also teach how to create magic. Thanx Justin.
Not often to see super skilled guy that plays everything effortlessly, try to explain step by step in foundation like this. Great teacher.
Absolutely amazing. I told my wife the first time I ever heard you play.... I said this ol boy is gonna go huge. Keep climbing that ladder bro. You most definitely will always have a fan in me.
YES! More of this, please. Not just more Johnny Cash, but more showing us how to play popular songs in such an interesting style.

I’m lying I don’t even sound that good…
New side of Justin. 🙏 Down to earth man. On ya mate. Legend.
This is great and all but your the only person on earth that can play it. ❤
Man why is coolest stuff so hard. I have had a about a year of classical lessons but I love country. Best lesson I ever watched on youtube.

Can never have too much Johnny Cash on a Sunday morning... I don't know squat about playing guitar yet you make it really easy to follow.
This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a youngster. It is now a brand new favorite song!
This gave me chills.
Just getting both the *Picking Patterns* in. I will keep at it slow & steady. *Great Lesson* with so many new techniques. Thanks.
Best lesson I’ve seen yet, please have more to come!

Pure pleasure, to watch and listen to, and especially to play! I can wait!
This is a tremendous gift Justin, thank you very much. Let's practice now ! 🙂
This is the country music I like..good ole Johnny Cash. Awesome arrangement! I’m gonna give it a go learning it. Thank you for posting this
First like, then watch. As it should be. This is gonna be awesome bro, you'll make me better at bluesy fingerstyle, wich I was looking for too much.

Thanks so much for posting.... been trying to learn it from your first post without tab and it’s taking forever!!
Wow! How do I get access to your instructional materials and techniques to strengthen hands and fingers to bend notes like this? You’ve put together something very special here. Clear and precise! THANK YOU!
I hear the blues a coming round the bend and Justin is driving the blues train 🚂 again!
What a player.. please keep these coming!
This guy are a legend
another great video by justin as always
You know it's justin johnson when it's blues and have a nice guitar. Damnnnn amazing
Johnny Cash! Great playing Justin!
Mr Johnson it was an amazing arrangment fully understood and learned fast. U should be in true fire as an educator like Tommy emmanuel, you explain everything thoroughly and it was so easy to understood.. I would love to see more Cash songs, Willie Nelson , Neil young, Stevie Ray, Kristofferson etc. Great work sir !
Really enjoying this lesson.. I think just like you say one thing at a time...Thanks Justin
I love the way the back of the back of neck looks on that guitar almost got it. Ended up getting the Álvarez Masterworks
This canal is a treasure!! 😍
Amazing Justin!!! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
