- Here's a video tour of the legendary China Town Fair arcade in New York City. They have a great selection of music games, SHMUPS, Capcom Fighters, SNK Fighters and Namco fighters.
CTF is the best place in the city to go for fighting games. The competition is awesome. It's one of the best arcades out there.
(This video was featured in the third part of the documentary, Run It Back)

I miss this.
how i remember it
I walked past it yesterday. I wanted to go in and take a couple of pictures but we were in a rush. I knew it was located in chinatown but I had no idea it was right next to my friend's house. Too bad she's not into video games.
CTF likes to rotate the machines around. That time we went they only had one Third Strike. Other times I've went they've had two. They usually have two of the most popular games, 3S, MvC2,Tekken5.
Nice, New York got ‘em old school arcade
Had...this is from 07. CTF is still there but it's not like it once was.
They also Have ID3 in this arcade called Peter pan games in Bayside.... it's around Bay Terrace it's a long trip but it's easy to go to and highly worth it :D
13 Years Ago
Yup, they got it.
@PressStartComic If you can you should come on the last day. Supposedly its on the 23rd which is Weds...
RIP the last real arcade
Next time can you do a tour about carasello in howard beach please?!?!?
Not anymore. They upgraded to Version 4. The only places I know of with V3 is Nathans Fun City and I think 8 on the Break still has theirs.
CTF is about 90% Fighters, the rest of the games are music games, racing games a few puzzle games and two or three SHMUPS.
They have Giga Wing a Raiden Fighters and they used to have Mars Matrix and I think that one game called Viper.
I know they got rid of Mars Matrix and they put in Super Pang! (aka Buster Brothers) and I'm not sure if Viper is still there.
I am going to update the video since I got a new camera and I'll be sure to cover the other non fighting games.
@TheSynGame No, I live on Long Island, not the city. So taking the LIRR back and forth is a pain in the ass.
Well this is back in August. They did in fact get in a nice two player Initial D Version 4 machine.
I was going to take a new updated video of it, but being Friday night, it was packed and I didn't want to tape with everybody there.
@PressStartComic Yeah it was there. Something happened to the cabinet tho.
We just heard that China Town Fair will be closing. We're sorry we never got there with our new camera equipment but we will continue to support Henry and if he decides to open up in another location.
"Arcades are not dead in america."
Oh how I friggin wish this were true...
yes it is open again and it is awesome
haha i go there like crazy to do super nova causei kick ass
I just changed the name of the video. A lot of folks are wondering where the newer games are. We plan on revisiting CTF in the summer on a weekday so we can get good shots of all the new machines with little to no people.
Hopefully they'll have Street Fighter 4 when we go too!
i used to go evry friday nite to watch my boyz bust ass in street fighter 4 dat wear i met justin wong cool ass dude
I just visited this place last week. It is as crazy as ever.
@AunaTidoki only if you allow yourself to get sucked into it, the druggy part is usually on account of the pre and post rave gatherings that occur at CF
Yup
The guy in the black shirt....he is ALWAYS at CTF. lol
@PressStartComic noot even at night?
@chaos1778 At least your mall HAS arcades. Mine got nothing anymore, apparently the owner for the arcade place and the owner of the mall got in a feud and closed the arcades down. Now it sucks. It was the only good thing it had besides food court.
How come the arcade in my mall doesn't have at least half the shit they got there? I'm jealous! T_T
aahh the memories
they changed alot from this vid they got street fighter 4 were that DDR game was in this vid
sweet, I went to this place last night and it was great. Really reminded me of that great arcade atmosphere of the 90's. I'm surprised Marvel vs Capcom 1 isn't as popular as 2 though. I've always liked 1 over 2.
haven't been here in a while, what's the current status of the extreme/supernova/itg2 machine? Like prices/ pad quality
No its not that... Sometimes the machines eat tokens thats why Sam started doing that...
Yes, as well as Street Fighter IV. This is from 2007 before they got them as well as a couple of other newer games.
We're trying to make another trip back there with our better camera to get some better video of it.
hey, do u know if there is still a ITG2 Cabinet their, cuz i stop in NYC from time to time, and I didnt know that their was an arcade in chinatown. Hit back.
What's that Seibu game with the vertical monitor at the start of this video?
I just bought Arcana Heart for the PS2 a few weeks ago and it is the best fighting game since it has only cute anime girls in this 2D fighting game.
Where is Next Level?
Yeah I found out on SRK forums!
Pretty steep at $1 per play though. I haven't got a chance to play yet, but I'm definitely hittin' up CTF this fall.
is tekken 6 in that arcade
ROFL. A whole bunch of my friends are in that video. That was before CF went to shit.
That would be Viper Phase 1. The game's controllers don't work 100% but it's still fun to drop a token or two in.
Check our other videos, Fun City is in Nassau County, across the street from the mall.
@Coldbrand Yes, I keep hearing things going back and forth. For now I'm going to change the description to "Might Close".
@TheSynGame I spoke to Henry over on Facebook and he told me that Wednesday is the final day. But I have work during the week and I won't be able to take a day off to go into the city.
fyi you said 1 machine wrong it is kof(king of fighters 2002) not 2001 :D
Viper Phase 1 eh? I wish Seibu did a Playstation version of Viper Phase 1 as that game would have been better than the cool but very short Strikers 1945 game by Psykio.
@PressStartComic I feel you on that bt don't worry about it. Henry trolled the shit out of everyone. CF will be around for another month. Nothing is set in stone yet.
i heard the atmosphere is bad? is it?
lmfao i know 60% of the people in this video lol.... i miss that old setup
lol @ rocket , flip and penga XD
CTF is the shit. I went last summer on a Sunday and had so much fun even though I lost in 3rd Strike. I won some rounds though. I still have two dragon coins left over lol.
I plan on going back when Street Fighter IV is confirmed to be there.
As much as I loved this place a few years ago, it sure has dropped down in quality. all they seem to care about nowadays re their SSf4 machines while neglecting machines that are broken. the Guilty Gear machine comes to mind when talking about neglected machines.
This place is awesome but dude needs to understand that there is much more to an arcade than just good fighters.
I grew up with FunSpot in NH before I moved to NY so I got the best of BOTH worlds.
I have no idea how Next Level is but I hope they have some more platformers, etc there.
Some Nintendo series "VS" cabinets would be nice to see in there. Or some more shooters.
except... now the arcade is dead T.T
lol no refunds.... who asks for refunds when they lose?
Sore losers I guess. When I first went there and saw the sign I asked if the machine was broken but they told me the game worked fine, it's just that the best players in the city play there and you WILL have your ass handed to you.
Arcades are dead now.
China Town Arcade? NO Initial D V3 or V4? BULLLLLSHIIIEEEETTTTT
Lol, not at all. I've seen arcades in New Jersey that make this one look like a piece of crap. Arcades where dancing games and new 3d fighting games are the minority and sprites and vectors reign supreme!!!!
what?Did you just say tekken tag?I don't Like That game.
