"Manchester has It All" Old & New units, Freight & Loco Haulage

  • Went to Manchester to film some loco hauled trains and a few freight workings plus get some class 142 before they all go, and catch up with the new units which are starting to take over.
    But it rained all day so I decided to go to Buxton to visit a Wetherspoons pub I hadn't been to. Filmed in December.
    Last shot is Manchester Piccadilly with the class 142 departing.
    DEANSGATE Station is OXFORD ROAD
    66778 was working 4M36 Drax-Liverpool not what I put on the Video.

    so much variety compared to just a few years ago when all you got at Victoria was Pacers and Sprinters.

    Lots to see there Mike, plenty of unit types and a variety of liveries. Nice to get a couple of freight too, and great to get a Nova 1 and Nova 3 together side by side.

    Great variety of trains. I am often around Manchester, Wigan or Bolton filming. I filmed Black Douglas last year at Wigan when it was still being tested up and down the WCML

    Interesting watch…brings back memories. I used to love going to Buxton and Manchester Victoria looks a lot different to when I first went there. Heavy freight aren’t allowed up the Miles Platting bank I understand without double heading or a banker,

    Those Mk 5 stock look weird & odd. Lucky shot with the two new trains next to each other, though. Nice view of the Pacer departing and the new train arriving,

    It's great to the North and NW getting some better passenger rolling stock after all these years. Just hope the schedules improve as well - far to many cancellations and delays still.

      I know they need to sort why the trains not just in the north but all over the network.
      The class 68 are a great investment but they must keep to the timetable which what I have seen today they are not. Thanks for comment and watching. Cheers Mike.

    Manchester victoria looks so different compared to the old station. Luckily the old station is in the train sim world

      It’s a class 68 de longing to DRS and is on hire to TPE who are using them on the Liverpool to Scarborough service.

    Nice video,but 6J56 Peak Forest can't load bio-mass and Hope Street can't burn bio-mass. Being a Cemex stone terminal. Think you meant a Liverpool- Drax.

      It’s a class 68 loco with MK 5 coaches working trains between Liverpool and Scarborough. Thanks for watching.

    A Yankee here. Someone enlighten me. Why so many diesel-powered passenger trains, even though the tracks are electrified here? I don't recall that petrol prices were cheap when I visited Britain last year.

    It annoys me that TPE stock doesn’t have yellow ends. Dunno why but the stock just looks out of place.

      It's the buffers and exposed couplings that annoy me. Since they'll only be used if the cab car is defective, why not put them behind a cover like on HSTs?

      Not sure where I heard this but a law was changed so British trains no longer have to have yellow ends, you're also right looks more european with out the yellow

      The new high intensity LED headlights mean they can be easily seen without the yellow and so the yellow is no longer needed.

      The new trains in this video are taking over some of the working that the class 142 done, plus you still have the class 150, 156, 158.
