in our house we use the Chessex dice mainly because it the easiest to buy here in Denmark and the different patterns and colours are so vast. I store the dice in the hard plastic they come in, it is also good fore transporting them around, at least until my fiancé are done crocheting my beholder dicebag.
I live in the states down in Oregon at the game stores around me are mainly Chessex Dice and the sets go for around $6-$8 and the multi dice like Kaplow go for around $10-$12 so not bad prices really I would say 90% of my dice are Chessex my suggestion would be get a few set's at the game stores to help support them and then order the Pound O Dice from Amazon much cheaper than the game stores and you will have more than enough dice to go around and for Dice bags I use to get the ones from the game store's until I turned 21 then got a 5th of Crown Royal Black (cool black bag) and found the Crown Royal bags are nicer than a lot of the dice bags you get from the Game store's and you get a nice bottle of booze :)
Actually glad to see someone actually make a dice buying guide for once! I know it seems silly but a lot of people who haven’t played or played much have no clue what to get. Was cool seeing the old sets too! Forgive the dumb question but are you going to cover the spell cards in the future too? Sorry if you have already, I just discovered the channel.
Hey Alex, I'm glad you found this video helpful. I did make a video for the Xanathar's Guide spell cards. I would love to do more, but they are incredible difficult to find where I live (Atlantic Canada). I've always got my eye out for them, so if I can find some then I will definitely make videos.
chessex prices there dice by how fancy they are in Toronto the mono colour are cheap. speckled, swirl patterned and translucent dice get more expensive due to the cost to produce them. Amazon has dice for cheap as well.
What no Crown Royal bag to hold your dice? Thought you were Canadian😆 On a serious note though I'm finding myself treating dice like I do golf balls; lots of different ones to buy but they all do the same thing but I'm still gonna buy 'em. How many dice total would you say you have in your collection Dave?
By the time I was old enough to buy alcohol Crown stopped using the bags. I also got really sick off of Crown too, so I don't see me wanting something to remind me of that. I have 31 sets of dice, though they range from 7-dice sets to 10-dice sets
DravenSwiftbow Yeah I got a similar experience with Jaeger and can appreciate not wanting a reminder. I only have 5 sets as I'm new to DnD this year. Thats not counting my set of 2 d10s that came with Star Frontiers I played back in the 80s.
I've been playing D&D for nearly 20 years now, so I built my dice up over an extended period. The Crown experience was so bad, that I would start to feel sick if someone even mentioned it. It took a couple years to get past that, I stick to beer now
DravenSwiftbow Me too on the beer and I don't really drink that as much anymore. On the dice piece you ever see any vids from Lou Zocchi on game science of dice making? Speaks to the inconsistencies of dice manufacturing. I found it interesting and a little amusing. Keep the vids coming!
Hi, have You tried any of the Q-Workshop dice? What is your opinion on those more ornate and fancy patterns on dice, like Pathfinder Giantslayer or Pathfinder Hell's Vengeance sets?
I honestly don't like the dice I've seen with fancy patterns on them. One of my players for Adventurer's League has a set and it always takes him a few seconds to read the number off the die. Personally I like the dice to look interesting, nut still have the numbers easy to read

I really wish I had a Beholder Dicebag.

2 years late, but now that the 5e essentials kit (think step 2 to starter set) is out, it has a nice full set of dice.

the 4e collectable dice can be bought at BMV (on Bloor st.) in Toronto last time I was there ;)
Nice, they are all out in every game store I've been to in Nova Scotia

die balance checking......
